"Northwestern fans can be both heartened and disheartened by the loss to Minnesota just like how nineteenth-century resurrectionists were heartened when they pried a heart from a freshly-buried corpse and then disheartened it when they sold it to a disreputable anatomist."

Haha! Dude, unemployment is capped at 1600 a month, he doesn't give two sh!ts about collecting unemployment.

Still borderline if the kickoff is actually a snap - have you seen our return game? Even if the fans weren't there we'll be lucky to get to the 25.
|1 week 2 days ago||It's always going to look||
It's always going to look like lazy students because ESPN doesn't know about it but that's not the point.
|1 week 2 days ago||I don't understand the||
I don't understand the confusion. The students ARE NOT MISSING A SNAP, they are boycotting UNTIL kickoff. Maybe I just don't get the confusion but it understood it that they are going to be standing elsewhere in the stadium so that one wedge is dead empty and then come fill it in at kickoff. Is that not the plan? If not, it should be.
|1 week 2 days ago||They aren't boycotting the||
They aren't boycotting the parade - they are boycotting the part of the parade when all the officers walk in and coming back when we get to all the enlisted folks.
|1 week 5 days ago||So instead of a boycott since||
So instead of a boycott since apparently the players can't deal with that and/or the media won't realize WHY people aren't in their seat I think the entire student section should chant "Fire Brandon" clap, clap, clap clap clap repeatedly until the actual kickoff. That'll show up on TV. Also, make a GIGANTIC sign. Something to the effect of "Fire Brandon, Michigan deserves better" so that will show up as well. Make it impossible for the media to confuse it with anything else and force them to recognize it.

Says the Aggies. You may not be an impartial observer... And, no, Strong hasn't been a disaster. He inherited a tire fire but actually has them playing competitive ball which is more than I can say for us right now.

CAPA? Really? This doesn't have anything to do with CAPA. I know you guys love the idea of a CFB Union but this doesn't have anything to do with it.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Is it really that big though?||
Is it really that big though? They already got a stipend on top of room and board so it's still up in the air how much "true cost" actually is. The four year scholarship thing is big but we could have already been doing that since the NCAA ok'd it last year, they already have ridiculous health benefits playing football. The lifetime scholarship thing is big for the guys who try to leave early and bust but how many of those people are actually out there? You think Charles Woodson can't afford to pay for a semester of school to finish his degree? (Can't remember if he has or not). So, I just don't see it as huge news at all just another little stepping stone.

Trick question - there's no such thing as "watched too much Game of Thrones"!!
|16 weeks 3 days ago||That's the problem||
All the polls they've ever done show that most native Americans either don't care or actually really support it and like it. However a few of then are offended by it and they are the ones who brought the lawsuit. I'm not sure how any of that matters but it seems odd that most of the people who are supposed to be offended actually support the name.
|19 weeks 2 days ago||Was going to say||
The exact same thing. So the judge is saying she doesn't care about a federal law that pretty much mandates a large number if women's sports given the scholarship numbers associated with football. Yeah, ok. I see an appeal at the very least.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||They aren't allowed to talk about it||
But they certainly do it. The only reason Apple and Google got busted was because they talked about it and incriminated themselves.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Welcome to the real world||
Your employer doesn't care how much you get paid, they care about how much it costs them to employ you. The cost to your company is probably about 50% higher than what you actually get paid.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Correction||
Out of state tuition for a full year (summer included) is already about 70k. According to finaid.umich.edu that's 66k for fresh/soph and 70k for junior/senior.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Their education...||
The full ride + benefits at UM is at least 70k a year. Don't underestimate the cost of the "benefits" - the facilities they get to use, the clothing, the food, etc etc. let's also not ignore health care since people don't seem to value the top of the world level care the players get.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Confusion||
I think you're confusing "latent animosity" for difference of opinion. I had engineering classes with a couple of those guys and I don't have any animosity towards them. The animosity is actually toward the people who insist that the players aren't college students but employees. Where I come from (and where most people come from, a non-millionaire family) getting your degree completely paid for is a blessing and playing for your school is a matter of pride not a matter of getting paid.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||I think baseball||
gets ignorned in this whole thing since they actually have a good setup in terms of college vs pro. But, yeah, baseball players get hosed but since they actually have an option to go play in the minors the choice is either play in our world by our rules or you can go play in the minors. The problem with basketball and football is the professional leagues tied to those sports refuse to take on the risk that baseball teams are willing to take on by offering a bunch of 18 year old kids big money contracts.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||And?||
They are very well compensated for that. Find me a job for a kid without a degree where they can earn 70k+ a year.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||So you doubt they are living high on the hog?||
The nicer dorms than everyone else, the nicer/better food than everyone else, the top notch healthcare that none of us save some CEOs could actually afford, the free tutoring, the end less free clothing and the fact that UM is actually marketing them to their future employer (exactly why people go to college and not CFL) means they are just poor exploited people? Oh, let's ignore the fact that their benefits package is likely greater than 98% of us even after we graduate.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||There used to be||
But other than not using their athlete status or getting paid boat loads more than average joe for the same job those restrictions are gone. They don't even put a cap on how much you can make over the summer anymore.
|21 weeks 3 days ago||And unless you agree...||
...you're just stupid. Even if you were actually one of those athletes your thoughts and opinions are void and stupid unless you think they should be living even higher on the hog than they already are.
And, no, finding 4 examples in all of the NCAA of kids getting "fired" doesn't really constitute it already happening all the time.
Was really hoping to make it through at least one front page post without beating the dead, buried, dug-up, creamated horse to death once again but... nope.
I wonder what happens when they do get paid and UM Union comes after Brian for exploiting the names and likenesses of the players for his own personal gain without giving them a cut? Hmm...
|21 weeks 5 days ago||The lives of athletes?||
Really? The football players are the kings of campus and we all know it, Good Lord this is getting exhausting.
|22 weeks 2 days ago||I'm confused...||
So you're ok with sitting next to each other reading a book and not interacting with your wife at all but giving in to the time-sucker TV where you are actually watching the same thing and can talk about what happens that's a bad and wasteful thing?
|22 weeks 3 days ago||For that size projector will win||
But, as many have said, so much of it depends on the ambient light level of the room. I got my 110" screen on amazon (Elite Screen) and it's worked really well. As for the people who are saying that flat panel beats projection I'd say it all depends on your setup. I haven't found a TV that looks any better than my 1080p Optoma projector but I also have it setup in a media room that's really just a small theatre with 2 level seating.
Personally I'd get the screen on Amazon, make sure you have a buddy to help you put it together since the tension fittings are a bit taxing and invest in some decent black-out curtains.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Huh, interesting||
When I first read that the only thing that came to my mind was a white guy. Curious how where someone grows up has such an impact on innate things like what do you think when someone says "He's a class act."
|24 weeks 1 day ago||Re: Texas||
There isn't a compelling reason because the Texas fan base doesn't want to play A&M - at all. They still hate them but in terms of playing them they are dead to them.
The only corrollary I can find is if MSU (the AD and other high ranking people) talked a bunch of sh!t about UM and then left to sell out to another conference. I don't know about you but I really wouldn't give 2 sh!ts about playing them if they want to act like little divas. This is exactly why UT doesn't want to play them - they have always thought of themselves as one of the elite schools in all CFB but they don't actually have any success to base that on. If there was a school that was the epitome of the phrase "delusions of grandeur" it'd be A&M.
Also, the UT AD is still loads better than what we've got even though you don't agree with him on some stuff. E.G. Check UT's "alternate" uniforms.

And clearly neither do any of the players or management who work for the clippers. I've got friends, why would you care if my boss is one of them?
|24 weeks 2 days ago||ESPN||
There have been so many articles on there that I can't remember exactly which one but he mentioned that he was better than half the league in terms of hiring minorities for higher positions.
