|7 hours 7 min ago||It has to feel like home, like a down-south type of hospitality.||
which translates to 1 – Let’s see if he visits before we talk.
A2 is a great place, but down-south type of hospitality it ain't.
|11 hours 48 min ago||Freddy Canteen as if he had 40 receptions last year||
I don't think we're really going to know what he can do until he gets cut in half after catching a ball over the middle. If he can take the hit and still be effective on the next ball thrown to him, he'll do great.
|12 hours 12 min ago||but timing on when/how to come off is the difficult part||
Which makes what Fritz Crisler was able to achieve with the Mad Magicians in 1947 all that more remarkable. What his players were forced to master was choreography on the football field combined with sleight-of-hand that's still hard to follow if you watch the old grainy films.
So, how many hours of practice did Crisler have available to get his players to achieve such a high level of blocking proficiency?
|13 hours 18 min ago||Greg Robinson remembered how to coach defense at Texas this year||
Ehh, I'm not so convinced that Robinson was a miracle worker. TX still gave up large amounts of yardage to Iowa State, WVU, Okie State, and Baylor.
Regardless, I've been bothered myself by possibility you've been mentioning: that Funk = Gibson. One thing the firing of Borges and hire of Nuss has done is remove whatever cover Al gave the OL coaching: if the line struggles mightily again this season, then the issues go beyond play-calling and reach into OL coaching, and maybe even S&C.

|14 hours 17 min ago||Must be nice to have bye weeks before both Michigan and OSU.||
How much does PSU lose from last year?
The last UM coach to beat PSU was Lloyd. Seems like a million years ago.
|14 hours 29 min ago||Not every recruit cares about academics as much as others,||
The number of elite-level recruits who truly care about academics to the extent that what Michigan has to offer is the deciding factor is much, much smaller than most Michigan fans would like to believe.
In other words, the vast majority of elite recruits come to college to get into the NFL, and the academic difference between Michigan and, say, Clemson or FSU or LSU is of little real significance.

The cheerleaders have a corn dog swallowing contest at half-time, and spectators are encouraged to join in the fun up in the stands.

|1 day 18 hours ago||But appears he could add some weight.||
If the conversation that Sam Webb had with Allen Trieu this morning is any indication, Cornell may have already added that weight—Trieu says he's now up to 270, which is starting to get into interior DL territory.

Thanks for the reminder about that... I'd heard Sam mention it last week, but forgot.
Spike Dykes sounds like a character on Archer.

bring in Jerry Hanlon as a consultant. Please.
|2 days 5 hours ago||thatd be an idiot move.||
Outside of Ann Arbor, the rest of the world sees OSU going undefeated during two straight regular season campaigns being led by a guy with one of the best overall records in coaching history, including two national championships.
The record here in Ann Arbor during that time has been far less impressive. Whether playing for his former OC will make up the difference is the question.
Of course, that doesn't explain his interest in Cal.
|2 days 8 hours ago||he did Ray Lewis's dance to a Beyonce song for D Hand||
Well that explains why Hand went to Bama then. I wouldn't want to watch my DC try to mimic the ugliest, stupidest dance in human history more than once either.
|2 days 9 hours ago||I missed the fact that he's a 2015 kid||
I had assumed he was 2016. Agree that Harris or Weber are higher priorities.
Norfleet looks shiftier in space, but Holloman looks markedly faster.
|2 days 10 hours ago||The idea that he might be swayed by Mattison's musical tastes||
is really reaching. Kids can see through that stuff.
|2 days 11 hours ago||Must have Holloman||
When you see a guy consistently outrunning DBs who have the angle on him, you've got something dangerous.
|2 days 15 hours ago||"I immediately believed "family matter" was likely a euphemism||
for something potentially embarrassing."
Did you immediately believe it was a euphemism for being booted out of school for involvement in an alleged sexual assault?
|2 days 15 hours ago||who cares what Hoke said?||
So if you were a family member of the victim of this assault—or a family member of any of the other assault victims whose cases weren't so high-profile—you'd have been totally fine with "family issues" as an explanation?
|2 days 15 hours ago||Was he also likely told how to handle it... Absolutely.||
What Hoke said is not the most important aspect of this sorry mess, but I'm not giving him—or the Athletic Department—a pass on it.
Using the phrase "family issues" is intentionally misleading, because it directly conjures up visions of a death in the family, or a serious illness, or some other Gibbons family crisis. If as you assert Hoke was told how to handle it, then either the AD dept ordered him to intentionally mislead, or Hoke horrifically bungled instructions that the AD had provided him to phrase things differently.
Given how many times Hoke has used the term "violating team rules" for other players, it's not like he had no other stock phrases to use regarding Gibbons.
The one thing I'm trying to keep in mind is this: never ascribe to malevolence that which can be explained by stupidity (or inarticulateness).
|2 days 17 hours ago||The notion that Hoke "turned around" a cratered Ball St. program||
is a nice bit of exaggeration that has a zombie-like life around here.
Bill Lynch's final three seasons at Ball State:
5-6, 5-6, 6-6
Brady Hoke's seasons at Ball State:
4-8, 2-9, 4-7, 5-7, 7-6, 12-1
Given that it took Hoke five years to exceed the win total—by one whole game—that BSU had the year before he took over, it's more accurate to say that he turned around his own Ball State program.
|3 days 2 hours ago||They fail to acknowledge player development at Ball State and SD||
If you're gonna claim his player development at those schools was so good, then go ahead and list those players. Otherwise it's an empty claim.
|3 days 2 hours ago||The App St and Toledo losses aren't really relevant||
Sure, they may still sting, but App St had a new coach last year and went 4-8. They're not the FCS powerhouse they were in 2007. Toledo happened under RR, and as bad as we've looked at times over the last two years, we're nowhere near as bad as we were in 2008.
And as awful as we played in Akron and UConn games, the games were as close as they were because we turned the ball over eight freaking times. Turning the ball over that often is a recipe for disaster for most teams.
|3 days 4 hours ago||Its hard to imagine him getting mad.||
Coaches don't need to be raging tyrants instilling fear in the players to be successful (Osborne, Snyder, Don James come to mind right off the bat) but then he needs to have a great eye for picking talented assistants. I'm not sure he's proven he does yet.
|3 days 4 hours ago||I think we're good for 3-4 losses in 2014||
but App State won't be one of them.
|3 days 9 hours ago||Sam doesn't do much Basketball coverage||
Now you're just talking out your ass.
|3 days 10 hours ago||We need to win at all costs.||
You should just take your cash advantage and go root for an SEC team.
|3 days 12 hours ago||It'd be nice to not see our OL get shoved backwards at the snap||
and would be even better to see them actually knocking the DL off the line occasionally.
If they can manage to do these two things with consistency, they might be able to beat a good team on the road during the regular season in a hostile environment.
If they can't do these things in 2014 and 2015, Hoke won't be here in 2016.
