|3 hours 27 min ago||It sucks to lose a guy with his obvious potential||
but if his decommitment is entirely due to one disappointing season, it says to me that his commitment to the University of Michigan—not just the football program, but the entire institution—wasn't particlularly strong in the first place.
I don't think this proves the kid is a bad person; he's a Florida kid (i.e., no winter) with a number of currently elite programs located within a few hours drive in the deep South and who has family members telling him to look elsewhere. I always think it's unfortunate when a kid turns down the opportunity to get a degree from the place I graduated from, but the reality is that academic considerations are frequently secondary in these situations.
|12 hours 39 sec ago||After reading all this, it makes it even more ridiculous||
that so many UM fans ridiculed DeShawn Hand for choosing to play football at Alabama and in the bargain have the opportunity to study engineering.
|14 hours 16 min ago||This is the inevitable downside to these early commits||
Take ten 17-year olds who commit during their junior year—regardless of where they're committing to—and it's very likely that 2 or 3 will end up changing their minds. That's the nature of teenagers, and while it sucks to lose a kid of his talent, I'm not surprised in the least that this happens. And if the above post about Damien Harris isn't snark, this may not be the last.
Those who stay will get Michigan degrees. Those who don't get a diploma with some other school's name on it.

Only if they utter it in flawless Latin.
|22 hours 57 min ago||isn't "almost" kind of the norm for Michigan sports?||
It's a particularly frustrating form of sportus interruptus.
|23 hours 11 min ago||I don't know how you made it through.||
It was like being repeatedly lured into the sack by a lubriciously eager Kate Upton, and then when you're at the very verge of really getting down to business, she jumps out of bed, laughingly points to your dong, and leaves with a smirking Hugh Jackman in a red Ferrari.
|23 hours 29 min ago||the most talented Lions team any of us will see in our lifetimes||
Not for old bastards like me. The '62 Lions went 11-3, blasted Green Bay in the "Thanksgiving Day Massacre," had eight players make various All-Pro teams, and had four eventual NFL HOF players on the squad. They were easily the third-best team in the NFL, and would have made it to the championship game from the Western Conference were it not for the dominance of the 13-1 Packers.
Wondering how in hell the Lions were so good back then? WCF didn't assume total ownership of the franchise until November 22, 1963. That was not a good day in history for both the nation and for Lions fans.

I guess 2008 was seeing your toothless meth addict Mom banging Santa on your dining table.
|1 day 20 min ago||All this recent stuff is disappointing||
but it's not even in the same universe as watching Michigan go 39-3-1 over four seasons —'70, '72, '73, and '74—yet sit home over the bowl season.
|1 day 1 hour ago||You're acting like negative recruiting isn't the norm||
Hardly. All I was wondering about was who was doing the negative recruiting.
|1 day 1 hour ago||JP was/is more worried about 7-5 more than BH getting fired||
It's not unreasonable to speculate that's the real situation, but don't make it sound like it's an established fact. Unless you can point to a specific statement that Jabrill made, that's simply your opinion.

Where did BB state that Darboh is from Nigeria?
|1 day 1 hour ago||I wish Sam had asked him who exactly what telling him||
that Hoke's job was in jeopardy. While I suppose Jabrill could have picked up the notion from social media and internet posting boards, I doubt he would give any credence to message board rantings by the fire-Hoke contingent. It probably came from coaches at other schools.

It should read "Michigan's Butt is Getting Bigger."
|1 day 2 hours ago||Ira will be insufferable||
He hasn't been any worse than any UM or Lions fan would be in similar circumstances.
No sympathy for Lions fans from me.
|1 day 2 hours ago||In all seriousness I'll put this name forward||
This guy built championship teams in two different places, and his demeanor and obvious organizational and talent-evaluating skills would seem to be a good fit for the NFL. His obvious ethical issues don't matter in the NFL, either.
|1 day 11 hours ago||The article in MLive stated that he is now graduated.||
He's already in grad school at UM. He ain't going to leave his grad program mid-stream for another school.
|1 day 11 hours ago||I just can't wrap my head around this.||
I don't get it either. It doesn't matter whether somebody is disappointed in the season or not, or whether they wanted KSU or another opponent in another bowl game—you still have to want Michigan to win every goddamn game they play, in any sport, regardless of circumstance. If you don't, then calling yourself a Michigan "fan" is a stretch.
|1 day 11 hours ago||What has to happen to kill "Lloyd Carr was pushed out" theory||
You can't kill it, any more than you can kill all the other idiot theories floating around out there. There's a solidly reliable 25% of the population that will believe literally anything, regardless of how completely fucking crazy it is, as long as it supports what they want to believe in the first place.
|1 day 11 hours ago||I would take it in a heartbeat.||
Just curious, what years did you attend U-M?
|1 day 11 hours ago||how many of you would trade past mediocre seasons for sanctions||
If you throw your Mom into the deal, I'll consider it.
|1 day 12 hours ago||Don't kid yourself.||
Believing that Carr was forced out = believing pro wrestling isn't fake.
|1 day 12 hours ago||The Lions will just hire another loser anyway||
As long as the Ford family owns the Lions, they will continue to hire incompetent and/or unqualified GMs, who will then in turn hire one lousy coach after another.
|1 day 12 hours ago||Does Ira have ties to Maryland?||
Ira is a UM grad, but grew up in Maryland and still has family back there. He's a big Ravens and Orioles fan.
|1 day 12 hours ago||I know this wasn't the sole reason the Lions lost||
but this captures one essential difference between a winning franchise and a loser:
After the Lions scored the go-ahead TD, their kicker (Akers?) can't come close to booting the ball through the end zone, thus enabling the Ravens to get the ball back to the 33 on the return. Those extra yards were critical, as it turned out.
After the Ravens kicked the go-ahead FG, what does their kicker do on the ensuing kickoff to the Lions? Boots it way out of the fucking end zone, ensuring the Lions have start from their 20.
It's just one thing, but add enough of 'em up and you win. Or lose, in the Lion's case.
Havard Rugland must be laughing if he watched.
|1 day 13 hours ago||so whoever coaches MSU or Ohio is irrelevant.||
I agree. Having knowledge about the other team is a bad thing.

haranguing his fellow jello-eaters at lunch and dinner.
|3 days 1 hour ago||I still think there is a strong chance Urbs goes to Austin.||
If I were UT I would certainly contact Meyer, but I think there's a greater chance of Meyer retiring than leaving OSU for another school after just two years. He's back in his home state and has everything he needs at OSU to be consistently in the CFB elite.
|3 days 1 hour ago||I'd really like to see what Coach Rod could do at Texas.||
If all this Texas stuff had been happening at the end of 2007, I think UT would have gone after RR in a big way, since at that time he was one of the hottest young coaches in the country. His folksy, unpretentious and corny personality would have been a better fit for a southern school than for an upper-midwestern conservative stick-up-the-ass fan base such as Michigan's that liked the fact that Lloyd Carr read Kipling by the fire.
As it is now, I don't think RR has had enough success at AZ to make him attractive to UT.
|3 days 1 hour ago||I can't believe UT, USC, TN haven't tried interviewing Dantonio.||
I don't know why this seems so surprising to so many people. You've got a 57-yr-old guy with recent heart troubles and the personality of an ulcerous hemorrhoid who has spent his 33 coaching years in the Midwest, all but four of those within the footprint of the Big Ten.
Don't get me wrong—I think Dantonio has proven that he's a damn good coach, but that doesn't automatically mean he's attractive to prominent programs in other parts of the country.
