Ahhh...12 straight hours on the couch to watch football. Come on down, 20-something without kids!!
+1 for media blackout on DVR football days. There are, aparently, apps that block out content related to your team for social media but I'm too scared to try them. I'd also need something to block text messages related to the sporting event I'm recording for later viewing.
(Mgo developers...can someone come up with a "do not disturb" feature for text messages that screens incoming texts and notifies the sender that the recipient is in a sports blackout period?)

The West Coast rules for watching sports. During football season, you can watch everything during normal waking hours and still get to bed at a reasonable hour. 9am kickoffs for CFB and 10am for the NFL RedZone bonanza window = awesome sauce.
Unrelated to timezone, can I just say how amazing the DVR is for basketball? The 30 second skip handles freethows perfectly and you get to eliminate the inane deluge of timeouts and intentional fouling that the last 3 minutes of each game is always filled with.

Living in the greater LA area is like eating steak once a week. You probably shouldn't do it because it may take a year off your life at the end, but it is frickin' awesome.

I lived in a loft in DTLA from 2005 - 2009 and was an avid runner at the time. Just about any direction you go will be fun...provided you are VERY VIGILANT about crossing intersections. LA drivers have low awareness of pedestrians and we've even had some bus vs. pedestrian fatalities recently.
Also, police officers are prone to issue jaywalking citations, so fight the temptation to cross mid-block anywhere.
At 6:00am, the streets will be quiet and there will be a nice chill in the air - perfect running conditions, if you ask me. Downtown sidewalks are actually very wide on major streets like Broadway and there is fantasticly exciting architecture to be seen.
I hope you have a great trip out here and that you take advantage of the opportunity to explore a city that is being reborn at this very moment!

I would love to see the average star rating of starters compared to their age/class.
For instance, have we traditionally been starting a bunch of sophomore 4-stars, or are we heavily (pun intended) reliant on 3.5 star, fifth year seniors?
Edit: Love the chart, though!

Having lived there once upon a time, Notre Dame gets a ridiculous amount of publicity and coverage.
Michigan is second, though, and nobody else comes close. That's why I thought Northwestern's futile attempt to become "Chicago's B1G Team" (tm) was so ridiculous.

Part of the reason that Harbaugh continues to make news is that Michigan has always held itself above most of the typical recruiting shenanigans that are the norm in places like OSU and the SEC. The national media is adjusting to this new normal where Michigan is employing more aggressive tactics in all aspects of its football program.
Also, Harbaugh is a legitimate sports celebrity. His unique style and social media mastery make him a ripe target for pieces like last week’s Greenstein slam-job. How many people in Chicago would read about the recruiting practices of (*goes to Google to look up*) Illinois head coach Bill Cubit and his generic two/three-star haul? Five years from now, we’ll be reading pieces about how everyone has signing day parties, spring break practices in warm places, satellite camps, etc. and how Harbaugh was a true innovator.
Granted, I’ve had to develop a bit of a thicker skin about this sort of thing, but really, if it helps generate interest in Michigan football, I’m ok with it.
