Granted, it's Rice so qualifiers and the standard "it's one data point in the season" disclaimer all apply, but here are the current stats on Golson:
14 completions on 22 attempts for 295 yards and 2 receiving TDs, good for 13.41 yards per attempt and 21.07 yards per completion.
Notre Dame as a whole has, as of the latest update, 487 yards of offense across 55 plays, which 8.85 YPP on offense. They've held rice to 275 yards across 49 plays, or 5.61 YPP allowed.

Indeed it is. If you tweet at recruits with the specific intent of enticing them to come to the institution you support, then you are in violation of the rules. Actually, people who do it seem to forget that you do not need to be an alum or booster or someone with a vested connection to the school, it applies to anyone. The remedy typically is for the school to make the NCAA aware of that communication so that they can show that they do not support it and are doing their best to abide by the rules. Schools will also try to get in touch with the offender and request that they stop the practice.

The Unstoppable Throw God is 5/6 for all of 35 yards right now, and th Wildcats have 9 rushing attempts for 1 positive yards. A sack of Trevor Siemian erased the rest of the rushing yards. So far, this is not a good showing by Northwestern against a team that was projected to still be not good this year.

According to a few sources, there is supposed to be an update meeting of some kind between Swarbrick, Kelly and other parties in the investigation this week at some point, so I imagine that that we'll know more about the length of the suspension by then. Well, that is unless the update is that there is no update, but I can't imagine that this gets dragged out any longer than necessary.
|3 hours 31 min ago||As I Sat There...||
I sat on my hands just a bit in the run-up to this game, in part due to what I will call fandom PTSD stemming from having been at the 2007 game.
Very quickly, as I sat in my seat in the first half, for some reason Star Trek II and Khan's line came to mind - "Do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold...in space..." Very glad that particular game and demon, if you will, is out of the way.
|3 hours 36 min ago||Yards Per Play....||
Appalachian State ran a total of 69 plays for a total of 280 yards, which is good for 4.06 yards per play, but much of this came in the second half when our starters were out. With the starters in, we actually held them to something more on the order of 2.64 yards play, so there is that.
Of note, Appalachian State had only 63 yards rushing on 14 attempts at halftime, which was about 4.5 yards per rush. They gained 90 yards on the ground in the second half on 24 further rushing plays, so 3.75 yards per play. The run defense got statistically a tad more firm as the game wore on, but there were a couple substantial runs mixed in there.
|3 hours 44 min ago||This Was Interesting...||
First and foremost, let me say that setting up the Snowflake threads while being within the vicinity of a heavily-used connection ner the stadium is NOT recommended.
Second, a few people - myself among them - were discussing this on Twitter just a moment ago, and it is nothing more than trivia really, but last year we had 1,569 yards of rushing on the season, and just today we gained 350 yards on the ground. In other words, in one game, we gained about 22% of last year's total. Tougher opponents will slow that down and we still have some issues blocking, I think, but it is encouraging so far (insert strength of conclusion qualifier as it is one game).
|4 hours 50 min ago||Those Yards....||
I will say this - if my stats are right, we only supassed 200 yards of rushing in a game twice last year, and neither time was it higher than 257 yards. On a more interesting note perhaps, we rushed for 1,569 yards all of last year - in this game, we've made 16% of last years total and counting.
|5 hours 31 min ago||Some Sundry Numbers...||
|6 hours 32 min ago||Wizardry...||
Was I the only person that saw a series of positive runs resulting in a first down and wondered for a moment if the correct game was on? That was very refreshing to see for a multitude of reasons. It's the first game, so meaningful conclusions will be few in number, but I could get used to the offense looking like that even if right now Nussmeier might not be showing much.
|7 hours 14 min ago||Incidentally...||
"The State Of Our Open Threads" will return, so if you have words you would like tracked throughout the season, let me know. I won't have good data after just one game, but a short summary thread might appear tomorrow all the same, especially given the chatter about this particular meeting beforehand.
|7 hours 53 min ago||Good For Funchess...||
If you had asked me who a likely candidate was for #1 should it be given out, I probably would have said Devin Funchess, so I am glad to see that he will be wearing it - I happen to think that he stands a good shot at a "#1-style season", if you will. That, and it just seems right when it is on someone who can not only produce but hurdle over defenders. Good for Funchess!
|8 hours 9 min ago||I Will Say...||
I will say that if something like this ever happened with Borges reading MGoBlogger tweets, it would more or less devolve in the same manner that the infamous #AskEmmert did and might end just as well. That being said, it was a funny moment in the annals of sports Twitter all the same.
I managed to catch this segment as they aired - I really didn't think about the Dan Mullen-Randy Quaid resemblence until that very moment, and not I cannot remove the images from my head.
|8 hours 17 min ago||Duplicate Post...||
Quite literally too...
...was a duplicate thread. That doesn't happen too often here.
|9 hours 20 min ago||In Space...||
There are now several instances in this game where UCF has shown us that they are so good at tackling in space that they can, in fact, tackle space. Unfortunately, it's space where no one is more often than not. If "near / missed tackles" (say, for the sake of an admittedly silly argument, "near" means you at least touched the dude) were a stat, UCF would be an early favorite for being the category leader, I would say.
|10 hours 11 min ago||Uptempo And Penn State...||
So, Penn State going uptempo and prevent a review of a catch still looks a bit like someone trying to enter a boat race with an ore freighter, but they got the call all the same - it was questionable to me, however, based on the angle they just showed. It definitely looked like it bounced into the receiver's hands.
|12 hours 9 min ago||Hyped Already...||
Man, I am still working on coffee and waking up. I mean, I know I am older than a fair number of people on the board (though not the oldest by any stretch), but for someone to be this hyped this early and for me to be barely functional right now (having only gotten up 15 minutes ago) makes me feel even older somehow.
|12 hours 22 min ago||The Season, It's Here...||
...and around here, we begin the morning with this (well, this is the version I use for a ringtone, but still...):
|20 hours 2 min ago||Bravo, Sir...||
Now, these are the moments that make MGoBlog stand out among sports blogs. Well done indeed, sir. This one may need to get either bumped back to the top at some point or otherwise enshrined somehow. I would expect no less from this fanbase on a night so brimming with anticipation for all of us.
|21 hours 23 min ago||For A Moment...||
You know, for a series or two, it seemed like Jacksonville State had MSU a little off-balance and not playing quite like they normally would, but all is as you might expect now and the Gamecocks have settled into simply taking their lashings with a side of blown coverage. Incidentally, Michigan State is approaching 500 yards of offense at this point, whereas Jacksonvill State still has 42 to get before they manage 200 yards.
|22 hours 7 min ago||From Another Angle...||
The statistics nerd inside of me would like to say that we computed the observed values and dervied the distribution of our test statistic, and it turns out that p is less than the given significance, thus the null hypothesis - that Michigan would NOT win the championship - can be successfully rejected in this particular study.
|22 hours 21 min ago||A Bit Lackluster...||
So, that was something of a lackluster first half from the Huskies - they gave up 329 yards to BYU, 28 points and 7.48 yards per play on average. For their considerably stunted offensive effort, 158 yards on only 31 plays, which comes out to about 5.10 yards per play. Taysom Hill is coming up big here, comprising about 70% of BYU's yards gained right now.
|23 hours 37 min ago||Not Totally Gone...||
I believe the specification always was that when Rose Bowl was not part of the playoff bracket, which would happen now and again under the system as it is currently devised, the Rose Bowl would revert to its traditional arrangement, which we should know well around here, of course. I believe the same is true of all bowl tie-ins so long as that bowl is not in the playoff rotation in a given year.
|23 hours 50 min ago||Quick Question...||
I do have to ask this - is "HAHAHAHAHA Connecticut" an appropriate reply to turning it over and then yielding the 2nd touchdown of the game as a result of your FIRST offensive play? I found it funny actually, but only because I still think of last year and our game sometimes.
|1 day 57 min ago||Sidebar Stuff...||
It's sidebar to all this, of course, but TeamRankings looked at projections of Appalachian State's toughest and easiest games (5 of each). Here's their estimate:

Elliot Mealer does the most amazing Hoke impression
This one made it to the board sometime yesterday - if you didn't see it though, do so. It is very funny, I thought, and eerily dead on.
|1 day 4 hours ago||I Thought About It...||
Hello: Darian Roseboro
It was originally titled something else and changed after the announcement, but also after the dedicated Hello post had been created. As there was already a thread created for announcement / speculation, we'll run with the dedicated thread though it was the second one created. No offense to 1484, it was a strange situation boardwise.
|1 day 4 hours ago||A Nice Addition...||
Well, if there was a better way for Michigan to slide into its first football weekend, I would like to know what it is. Picking up another highly-touted recruit is definitely an excellent start, a nice addition to the 2015 class. Welcome to Michigan, Darian Roseboro!
|1 day 4 hours ago||Note To OP...||
This will be the announcement / decision thread as soon as the OP changes it, so we'll keep this one for that purpose and then remove further threads as duplicates (save for the obligatory Hello thread, if needed). Don't worry about it, and it is a fair distinction, I believe, between the threads which are more speculative and the threads which cover the event itself.
|1 day 5 hours ago||Had The Same Thought...||
I had that same thought when I read that portion of the release. I am a huge fan of a good chili and some cornbread, having enjoyed it at some tailgates even, but unless there is some very unique way to package it all, it is hard for me to imagine trying to enjoy it while actually at your seat. I suppose I might test one of them for the hell of it anyway, but I do agree that some of the option sound a little stadium-unfriendly.....but they also sound rather good.
