It's going to be exciting. While I am a little worried about those rival road games, I take solace in the fact that Harbaugh isn't Brady Hoke, whose teams were miserable on the road for the most part.

OK, the NCAA might simply argue this:
If the classes are a sham, then the institution is also a sham. Therefore, the athletes aren't student-athletes, they're just semi-professional athletes given free room and board and a training table.
Since the NCAA doesn't permit its members to be professional athletes in the sport they're competing in, UNC violated NCAA rules.
I say Death Penalty.
Not gonna happen, of course.

Forgive my asking, but didn't Rutgers' "not Big 10 football" team beat Michigan 26-24 in 2014, or were we not part of the Big Ten that year?

If our guys plays to their potential the way they did against Florida, it'll be hard to beat Michigan.
But we're on the road against a team that has proven itself to be well-coached year after frickin' year, in spite of the hubris and trash-talk.
It's no gimme.
But I think we'll come out with a win in a close game.

Forgive the second post, but OP, you wanted to know when we'll be the BIG 16.
We already are at 16 schools. We're just waiting for Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame to field competitive football teams.

Makes sense for them at this point, but what a come-down to have to replace Nebraska and Colorado with two more schools that are regional at best.
|15 weeks 2 days ago||I'm not sure I understand||
I'm not sure I understand what's necessarily better about a 16 team conference, though I do think that ND makes sense in the Big Ten, even though I hate them like the plague.
Even Pitt makes sense, since they're close to the footprint. Cincinnatti, I don't think so. They're not in the same league academically.
I don't see Rutgers, Maryland and PSU as a good fit. In the case of PSU, this is because of my feelings re: the Paterno-Sandusky enablement. I think they should be pariah in college football, period.
On the other hand, I'm a bit inconsistent; I like being able to play "outsiders" like Maryland and Rutgers from time to time.
Still, I realize that there is no possibility of PSU, or the other new members leaving the conference.

It's really incredible that this university president can't STFU.
The Big Ten should sever the relationship and send them elsewhere. I'm sure the Big 12 would be happy to have them.
Of course, the powers that be won't do it. Delany is merely a sanctimonious money-grabber.

I'm disgusted that the Big Ten, knowing the depth and breadth of this story, hasn't booted Penn State.
Membership in the AAU is deemed more important than memebership in humanity, I guess.

Don't forget that one advantage that Harbaugh had his first year over RR and Hoke was solid recruiting from the predecessor to get players suited to a similar style of play.
RR certainly didn't have that, and Hoke had Denard and others at their peak in his first year that made his 11-win season happen.
I agree that Hoke wasn't up to the task of coaching at this level. But I'm pretty sure that RR wasn't satisfied with his team's losses.

With respect, wasn't the Athletc Department already having to fudge the attendance stats for certain games in the recent past to keep that 100K+ streak going?
Yes, with Harbaugh it's easier to fill up the stadium, but seems to me that there should be a useful purpose beyond adding crowd noise to spend a few hundred million bucks, and add to game-day issues. There should perhaps at least be demonstrably higher demand for tickets?
There may be a practical limit to the numbers of fans who'll turn out for games. Whether Michigan/Northern Ohio's population within driving distance will support a bigger stadium with regular turnout above the numbers we're seeing now, is one important question that needs to be addressed.
Then pile on additional parking problems, stadium entry/exit issues, more traffic than A2 can currently handle, and you could have a less pleasant game day experience that might encourage folks to stay home and watch games on TV.
I'd hate to see rows of empty seats at Michigan Stadium on game day, as happened at many games in the 50s and early 60s when I was still being taken by my parents.
So there may be compelling reasons not to do this beyond the tradition of the Big House's configuration, and even beyond whether the view from the seats would be worth the price of admission.

Lots of stuff happening here that needs to be put right before we rag on a bunch of other folks, in my humble estimation,
Michigan is certainly no model of good government.

I like Spinal Tap more than I like Star Wars.
I like Harbaugh as a coach more than I liked Hoke as a coach. I always felt Hoke's teams were likely to disintegrate at any moment in a game. I feel that Harbaugh's are more likely to pull one out and not fall apart (and yes, MSU, but I can't put that on JH).
I also lked Milton Berle's TV show more than Red Skelton's. Most of you are too young to know who those guys were.
So none of my opinions matter.

I love that Harbaugh does things differently. Michigan has the resources to do so, and is now leading the way forward.
Yost was an innovator, too. Great people do things their way and aren't so interested in "me, too."
