You are putting profit before the student athlete. Taking advantage of the powerless for institutional gain is reprehensible.

Regarding your statement about "your system," I'd like to take credit for it, but I think Adam Smith would be offended.

BTW, the NFL is far from a free market economy.
|1 day 9 hours ago||Player compensation proposal||
Free market economics? School offers athlete a job with a salary. Athlete either accepts or rejects. 5-star recruits are going to make more money, just like graduates of top universities can make more coming out of school than graduates of community colleges or high schools.
This works for McDonald's employees and Starbucks employees and rocket scientists. Why shouldn't it work for college athletes?

I notice there are a lot of peanut butter recipes here. But what do you do when you run out of peanut butter? I used to make jelly and mustard sandwiches. My family was probably poor when I was a kid.

If they are the 1 seed, they are going to be in the West Regional, meaning a cross-country trip for Michigan possibly to Sacramento. I'd rather play a 2 seed that gets shipped out of their region into something closer to Ann Arbor. They are 'neutral' site games, but travel and fan support can make a difference.

our pastor when I was there was the chaplain for the spartan football team. He being Scottish and a spartan fan, we had the very unfortunate fate of being nicknamed the "Tartans." Our mascot was a bagpipe covered in tartan cloth. It was awful.

or so I learned during elementary school at Saint Thomas Aquinas. Yep, ST3 went to STA.

Anyone else notice that Zak Irvin plays his better games against teams wearing red? I think this is a good omen for our season ender at Nebraska. Check this out (opponent, pts scored):
He had a little blip against OSU and @ Indiana, but those teams wear scarlett and crimson, not red.

unless Gettys and Doorson decide to eat half our team. Those are some big boys.
|3 days 7 hours ago||travel time||
I just read an IEEE Spectrum article about space travel. The article states that "Tiny spacecraft, each integrated on a chip and accelerated by laser light" could travel at 0.2 times the speed of light. We could reach that other solar system in 200 years. It would take another 40 for information to get back to us. None of us would be alive, but our great-great-great-great-great-grandchildren would appreciate our forethought or curse us for alerting our solar enemies to our existence.

Sports Illustrated did a story about it:
Nevada has this point system for potential parolees. SI broke it down and showed he will likely get paroled, unless the parole board ignores their point system because he, you know, murdered two people in cold blood.

Hoke is definitely Dorfman-esque.
Crean could be either Dorf-on-golf (see above) or Dorfman. Or just dorky.

Yeah, good ol' Rob Voskuil. I saw James play hoops at the IM building. He was clearly a division 1 athlete. Jason Bossard was also playing in that game. I think I could have taken Bossard. j/k

is going to destroy us inside. I hope we have a hot shooting night and can score with them.
|4 days 4 hours ago||Irvin's defense||
I watched him play defense during the first half of the Minnesota game. This amounted to standing in the corner guarding Minnesota's 5th option, and failing to box out. Duncan can do that just as well as Irvin. I think Ace is right that his defense is better than Duncan's, but he had a real bad night against Minnesota if defense includes defensive rebounding, which it does.

I think folks will keep complaining about the offensive line, John Beilein's recruiting, and Mark Donnal.

I saw Kupchak eating lunch once at an El Pollo Loco. Seeing that guy try to squeeze into a booth reminded me of this:

Sounds just like those white collar comments Maverick Morgan made. The dipshit doesn't fall far from the tree.
|6 days 1 min ago||Fouls||
Our game-by-game foul totals are found on the last page of this:
28 fouls against us is 6 more than any other game this season. Yes, this game went to OT and we were playing from behind, but we weren't fouling extensively to lengthen the game. We just got hosed by these refs. When something so uncharacteristic happens, one has to wonder what's going on.
|6 days 21 min ago||Refs||
Teddy was bad, but the whole crew sucked. The game is just moving too fast for those guys. They are calling what they think is happening instead of what is actually happening.
|6 days 34 min ago||Tech||
I did that same thing in a 3/4th grade game and got T'd up. I talked to the person in charge of the officiating after the game and she said she would have thrown me out of the game if I did that while she was officiating. (She refs high school games.) Refs don't like getting showed up. They should have a tougher skin and realize when they mess up and not double down by calling the tech. I stopped coaching after that season. It's just not worth it to invest so much time and energy in the kids and have some idiot ref take the game away from them because they felt "shown up." I tried to explain I walked AWAY FROM THE REF precisely for that reason because otherwise i would have yelled at the ref and that would be a poor example to the kids. Ridiculous that the refs hurt pride cost Michigan a win tonight.
|6 days 39 min ago||OSU||
where we got outrebounded 42-24. Need to fix the rebounding. I thought we did with DJ at the 4. He got 7 rebounds tonight, but i think they were all easy ones off of Minnesota FT misses.
|6 days 41 min ago||Irvin||
I've been claiming that his defense is good based on looking at opponents' guard scoring numbers, so I decided to watch him play defense in the first half. He was guarding Minnesota's 5th option. Guy only took 2 shots when Irvin was guarding him. So if you are guarding a guy who is not a threat to score, you should be providing more help defense. He didn't do anything on the boards. Guys were flying past him all game getting ORebs. If it's a choice between Duncan guarding their 5th option or Irvin, give Duncan more minutes. Beilein did sit Irvin for major minutes in the first half to the point I was wondering if the flu came back. But he played a lot in the 2nd time and reverted to lizard-brain hero-ball late in the game and it cost us.
|6 days 47 min ago||FTs||
I agree, if we make ours, we win. Minnesota started making theirs so they won. They happened to attempt 23 more than we did.
41 attempts, man. I just don't know what to say.
|6 days 51 min ago||Make FTs||
I'm tempted to agree with you, but then, if we had made a couple more FTs, I think the refs would have called a couple more fouls on us. There were numerous times Minnesota drove into a stationary player and got the foul called on us. It was atrocious. Worst reffed game I've seen in many years.
Minnesota got three fouls called on us by doing that 'head snap back' thing. Walton hit a guy on the elbow, for some reason the Gopher player's head snapped back. Whistle blew. (and blew and blew and blew...)
