Ann Arbor News; Jim Carty
It seems like most newspapers are veritable propaganda for their regional teams, but this doesn't happen for Michigan with the Detroit Free Press, and formerly the Ann Arbor News. I wonder, could this be because they don't offer a journalism major? There are two reasons this theory could be justified: 1) there just aren't any Michigan grads to fill seats in the Free Press sports department and 2) journalists might resent a school that doesn't consider their vocation a legitimate major. On the latter point, I know from personal experience that journalists are very proud of their profession.
I'm just throwing it out there. I don't get why certain writers have a single-minded vendetta against the one team they are reporting on the most. Does anyone have better theories? You don't see many hit pieces on MSU, who does have a journalism program.
I'm not sure if Carty lost his manual on how to report on the Football team, but this is actually a somewhat positive piece on the team, in which he has zero negative comments on RR. What is the world coming to...
