MGoBoard
UM-friendly bar locations across the US (and elsewhere)
A couple weeks ago, I put together a google map with all of the Michigan bars I'm aware of (and also everything from the spreadsheet that bouje has been maintaining.) The map is here:
I've posted it in a thread or two already, but I think Brian's going to pin this one - hopefully it might prevent the "where's the Michigan bar in Pittsburgh/Fresno/Topeka/wherever" threads that pop up every week.
If your favorite gameday hangout isn't on here, put it in the thread and let me know; I'll try to keep the map up to date.
Buying / Selling UM tickets thread with spreadsheet
To go along with the 'more informative headlines' theme, this thread will hopefully get set as a sticky.
I have made a spreadsheet listing all people selling and looking for tickets..
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Avnckx2kNv9GdGVPQXBQMDZQdFJ4RTJS...
If you want something added or removed from it, send an email to miaminemo at gmail dot com ...
I'll try to update it somewhat regularly. If it becomes too much work, Ill ask for others to help me administer the que.
EDIT: if you buy seats off the craigslist page can you let me know to remove them.
PS - I am personally in the market for OSU tickets, but as I just got engaged have a very slim budget.
MGoBoard FAQ
Why can't I start threads?
New users are not entrusted with that capability until they reach 20 points.
How do I get points?
Every time you post a comment or reply in a thread you get a point.
Wait… then why do I have negative 60?
You can't see this yet—you won't until you get to 20 points, naturally—but all posts/comments come with the ability to vote up or down on them. If you post things that are displeasing to the general populace, you will lose points as people downvote you. You get two points per upvote and minus one per downvote.
How can I avoid downvotes?
Don't be redundant. Don't use stupid nicknames like O$U. Spell things correctly. Don't post useless replies like "I agree" and whatnot.
What happens when I get huge numbers of negative points?
I get dinged and I check your profile out to see if you're pure troll or not, and ban appropriately.
What should I title my threads?
Please make your thread titles as informative as possible: "Justin Feagin" is bad. "Justin Feagin leaving the team?" is good.
How can I bold stuff, insert images, embed videos, etc?
ShockFX provided a helpful primer on basic HTML if you'd like to add some visual pop to your posts.
Why did my post get deleted/edited?
Getting personal on college athletes usually results in a deletion, and virtually always when it's a Michigan player in question. Threads that invite flaming also get deleted. Threads with misleading titles designed to scare the crap out of readers before they click will either be deleted or edited so that their titles reflect their contents.
What's the offtopic policy?
In the offseason, offtopic posts are somewhere between tolerated or encouraged. During the season it would be nice if they were kept to a minimum. What counts as on- and off- topic?
ONTOPIC
- Anything Michigan sports related
- Anything related to other Big Ten teams or upcoming opponents
- Stuff about the blog itself
- University of Michigan topics that don't relate to sports
GRAY AREA
- College sports in general
- Ann Arbor
UNWELCOME, KTHX
- Politics
OFFTOPIC
- Pro sports of any variety
- Everything else
I have another question.
Email me about it.
Basic HTML for Posting
Quick note, in order to make the tags inactive and display the syntax, remove all ^ from the text when trying this yourself.Syntax can now be used "as is" thanks to a contributor to this post.
Images:
Standard: <img src="[URL GOES HERE]"/>
Resized: <img src="[URL GOES HERE]" width="#" height="#"/>
Where width and height can be altered in two ways. One is to explicitly set the size in pixels. Use width="100px" height="100px" to resize the image to 100x100. Or, use width="50%" height="50%" to resize the image to 50% of original size.
Youtube:
Copy and paste the code from the specific youtube video page. On the right of the screen, under the user info, there is typically 2 boxes. URL and Embed. If you click in the Embed text box all the text should highlight. Just copy paste that here and it will work.
I searched "youtube embed circle" and this is the first image result:

Links:
<a href="[URL GOES HERE]">[Whatever you want the link to appear as goes here]</a>
Example: Whatever you want the link to appear as goes here
From BlueDurham on linking:
For another post of ShockFX's in a diary it would be:
http://mgoblog.com/diaries/state-recruiting#comment-125774
The comment number can be found in the address if you hit the reply button for a specific post - its the last number of the address.
To direct to a specific comment in a board [or one of Brian's articles (labeled story)], again another of ShockFX's past comments:

To type something but not have it link or do the HTML thing bracket it with "<" and "/>"
For example, the link to this post is:
<http://mgoblog.com/content/basic-html-posting/>
=
<http://mgoblog.com/content/basic-html-posting/>
More from BlueDurham:
To "Marquee" text:
<marquee>The text</marquee>
shows:
You can do multiple things at once:
To put blinking small italicized text into a yellow box:
<blockquote><blink><small><i>The text</i></small></blink></blockquote>
shows:
Yeah, I know, this comment is quite obnoxious with all of the stuff going on.
Yet more from BlueDurham:
arrows:
& followed by rarr; (right arrow, →), larr; (←), uarr; (↑), darr; (↓), harr; (↔), capitalize the A in the above gives you a double arrow, e.g. rArr; (⇒), and crarr; (↵).
subscript:
2 shows up as 2
similarly, superscript is 2 shows up as 2
strike through
<strike>word</strike> gives word
Bringing it all together - something near and dear to all most of our hearts, the crucial process of fermentation is shown below:

Volleyball: 14 UM(ichigan) leads 12 UM(innesota)
Game is on right now. Michigan leads two sets to none (but it looks to be 2-1 really quick) at home on senior night.
Big comeback won the first set, dominated the second set. This is the way Michigan should be playing top opponents, something we haven't been doing as of late.
Bill Simmons's article on 4th and 2 is crap
I'm in the Belichick camp on this one and fascinated with the controversy (seems maybe Brian is too). I'm a Simmons fan, but I think his column on this is pretty weak - (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmonsnflpicks/091120 )
Among the many flaws in his argument: using stats on the number of times a team has had 3 fourth quarter TD drives to win games is misleading. You'd have to look at the number of times teams scored two fourth quarter tds to come within 6-4 points (because 3 points or less and the team will be driving for a FG, not a td), and then see how many of them will succeed on their final drive. Also, I think him bringing up the poorly-called series leading up to fourth down is inapposite: no one is arguing about whether blowing those timeouts was bad. It obviously was. And the play calling is a different argument. The argument here is do you go for it or punt, and the statistics show that it is smart to go for it. Does emotion override the statistics? I say no. Besides, it is a professional athlete's job to execute in the face of emotion and pressure.
