MGoPodcast 6.14: WORLD SPORT AHOY

Bit of a format change for us in this dead period.

THE WATER POLO EMIRATES CUP

Shockingly won by Al Jazira over the heavily favored Al Nasr. What does this mean for the future of UAE water polo? Can former Partizan goaltender Nikola Radojicic forge the national team into a regional power?

DHONI QUITS TEST CRICKET

India's captain retires, citing strain. A tribute to a true legend of the game, a guy who played it the right way. Can Virat Kohli hope to replace Dhoni? We doubt it. Kohli's a bit of a wobble. Can't even keep his crumpets straight.

SIX NATIONS RUGBY A MESMERIZER

Ireland victorious as they come a clatter against the All Blacks. O'Neill tossed a real poofer in the final, wingeing the Scots a-dango. How will the Hottentots respond? Will the escape pod to Alpha Ceti be complete in time for the Eight Provinces Preliminaries? Will the Raja of Tambucktoo execute his back twelve for their diverse and sundry chest hair violations? Rug-a-roo and me too!

MUSIC

"Across 110th Street"
"Float On," Modest Mouse
National anthem of UAE
"Test Cricket Theme"

Mullen was plan B? Hackett had everything figured out in this search. No one had any idea about him as the backup plan. I'm so happy we got Harbaugh, but wow. Hackett is king.

Sir,

Rugby does not deserve this coarse treatment.  Please revise your coverage to substitute Ultimate or beer pong in lieu of same.

Yours very truly,

I write for purposes of correcting an error in the recipe for Candied Grouse Meringue as published in last quarter's issue of The Jaundiced Oarsman.  For ideal crusting, the appropriate ratio of ankle flakes to angry monkey nerve sauce should be 4 (not 6) rack units per morgen, as congealment should then occur at the traditional 64 (rather than 58) furman foot joules.

Your kind attention is appreciated.

On the off chance you're reading these comments and haven't listened to the podcast... make sure you go to about 43 minutes.

Hey, HAR-BAW. It happened. It's happening.

So, Michigan got a new AD, the president, from Brown, who thinks this stuff is so weird. They broke the bank for jim fricken Harbaugh. They got the guy, they got the guy in a difficult situation. This was a hard target. A sitting NFL coach who could be the head coach of probably 25 NFL teams right now. Yes. And they went and they got him. Pretty good Michigan. They're putting together an assistant list that looks pretty good. We've got Fricken Jim Harbaugh. Yeah. Yeah we do. They did it. After YEARS. Of floundering. Of comical terrible coaching searches. First you have the Les Miles stuff where the guy's on a boat. And we do luck into Rich Rodriguez, but we very much lucked into Rich Rodriguez after martin KNEW Carr was going to retire because he had to talk him out of retiring a year early. Yup. And then the Hoke search which was just a complete fiasco, because you end up with Brady hoke. Because you end up with Brady Hoke, and that says it all - a completely unqualified guy who looked completely unqualified and you hire him with because he's a Michigan man.

To go from that.
And the seat cushions. <table pound>
And the skywriting. <table pound>
And the concussion crap. <table pound>
And the emails.

To an athletic department that it looks like it knows what the FUCK it's doing.
Good stuff man.
Sorry Loch Dogg!
Fuck loch dog! <Ace cackling>

Michigan had a chief marketing officer who for like two years his twitter handle was Lochdog!

... it goes on... highly recommended.

Just what India needed. Level headed, able to turn it up or tone it down when necessary. I have my doubts about Kohli. He's a great talent, but too hot headed to succeed as Test Captain, very similar to Sourav Ganguly. India needs someone calmer leading them, along the likes of Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid of yesteryear.

I can't wait for the front-pag Dave Brandon obit.

I wonder what that guy is doing watching Jim Hackett crush everything. Probably yelling at a teenage waiter and sending his meal back to the kitchen at his local Applebee's.

huge loss for the Indian test cricket team especially with the great Sachin Tendulkar retiring as well. Some will decry this as the further degradation of test cricket to give way to shorter one day or 20/20 format. To them I say bah! Will have 2 see how this team responds in Australia for the World Cup coming off their lackluster performance in their recent series there. (Ok done with being a fob. Dhoni is a great ODI and T20 captain. But his game management in away tests were horrible to say the least. Even in this series instead of going for a win in the third test, he ensured a draw thus handing over the series win to Australia!
