TWITTER SELF IMMOLATION AND DECISIONS

We read our @ mentions! We talk about the late game decision-making, bleed into talking about the offense, and then sigh at each other about overtime.

OFFENSE

WTF

DEFENSE

Heroic despite the 43 points. Basically five turnovers you guys.

TALKING BIG TEN WITH JAMIEMAC

We deeply regret all things said about Michigan State earlier this year and would like the football gods to absolve us.

you covered almost everything wrong with the Michigan football program at this time.  Good grief its depressing.  Hoke had better see the light, it is his dream job.  Give up on the bubble screen thing, your like Borges running it into the line.  So much to work on in all aspects and coaching too.  AAArrggghh.

i'm completely for a team of super nerd bloggers running our offense. it'd be like those world of warcraft huddles before attacking some dungeon or something.

i miss constraint!

I totally missed references to The Smiths (I was 15 when the first Smiths record came out, so wheelhouse like whoah).

But I also totally did not miss references to The Smiths.

I think the inability to perform a real 2-minute drill is the greatest indicator that Borges is a problem at OC.  That is pure coaching and preparation.  We either do a horrible job preparing for the 2-minute drill or purposefully give that preparation short shift to instead focus on the latest flavor of the week.  In any event, it seems to cost us at least a drive or two every couple games.  I just don't see how you can employ an OC who can't prepare a team for a 2-minute drill.  It's even more galling when you look around and nearly every other team uses the high tempo 2-minute style offense at least occasionally during regular game situations.  How come we can't do it when it's absolutely necessary?!?

Good work on the putting the Breaking Bad Crawl Space audio at the very end.  How sad is it that between the offensive discussions and The Smiths songs, Crawl Space was the most uplifting part?

given how much we all (especially myself) chuckled in their direction earlier this year. If the football gods exist, we will certainly lose to them 42-14. Connor Cook will have 5 passing TDs for 380 yards and our only two TDs will be a fumble and INT return by Taco

My current points situation inhibited me from posting it to the board. I really do see Borges up there surveying the field like this. He just seems so out of touch. Running a tecmo bowl scheme in the age of Xbox

Brian,

What are the chances that we hire Scot Loeffler for the next OC? He knows Michigan Football and would be a great quarterbacks coach for Shane and Wilton. He's done well adapting VT's limited roster.

Not meaning to be a jerk, but Loeffler is pretty terrible. His offense at Auburn was more broken than any offense any school in BCS level football was putting out, and his Virginia Tech offense is just as dysfunctional and worthless. The only difference is at VTech he gets to play a bunch of weak ACC teams with an almighty defense to win him games and save him from "Fire Loeffler" chants.

to Assistant Head Coach ... and he was replaced ... and there was great joy in Mudville .. and the following year we win the the NC.

The corollary is ... promote Al Uncle Fester B. to Assistant Head Coach and all will be good.

wow.

listening was far less cathartic than I was hoping.

Your analysis made me want to puke and then vomit on my puke because yeah, it was accurate.

I did enjoy The Smiths, however.

we could be. every michigan fan i talked has complained about the play calling and the missed FG and how you cant stop a guy from catching the ball when he is triple teamed.

But holy God what is Borges' major malfunction? Ace mentioned that Borges' offense is "15 years out of date" and that's not even true! Dennis Erickson and Spurrier were drop back pro style guys using quick WR screens when teams weren't playing them honest 20-25 years ago!

Borges, a guy with zero NFL experience, and no offensive coaching experience on any professional team, has decided what "pro style" is despite all evidence. "Pro style" is not gimmick formations that telegraph the play. That's high school/FCS/Jim Tressell Mickey Mouse BS.

you would just record flushing the toilet and say "that's all for this weeks podcast!"

I had hoped to NEVER see the day when a Michigan coordinator would surpass the ineptitude of GERG. BORG has done so. I can hardly wait to hear his "what you guys need to understand is..." condescending sputter during his presser. I hope someone has the balls to ask him "When the f*** are you going to realize this team is incapable of running power from the I or ISO, or H or any other damn nut job formation you dream of dressing this style of football in?" "And when are you going stop telegraphing EVERY run play before it's run?"

Does anyone realize that we're 5-1 and the only game we lost was because of our inability to convert 2 extremely makeable field goals?

I predicted we'd win 9 games this year, so we're still on course for that.

Apparently there are people on MGoBlog who honestly believe Michigan will win every single game by at least 20 points and if that doesn't happen, the world is coming to an end.

If we so happen to lose a game, it is literally armageddon for them. All of our coaches need to be fired, and half of our team deserves to have their scholarships revoked. Literally.

Look, I can understand there being complaints, but sweet baby Zeus, the comments emanating from the people around here. They are far from complaints.

The tenor of this blog has reached Spartan levels of atrociousness.

I think you literally don't understand what literally means. Literally.

Also, the tone of mgoblog has been fairly consistent over the course of the season. Our offense is an abomination, and there is not rational excuse for what we're seeing. This line is worse than the 2008 line. Perhaps the comments have reached a "spartan level of atrociousness" because the offense has reached (and arguably surpassed) a spartan level of atrociousness.

I think we need to look at how the offense changed after the ND game.

just after the ND game, this offense under the 6-7 games DG98 has been QB, was ruthlessly effecient in the red zone. they were literally unstoppable in the RZ. DG98 was TO prone, yes. he had 1-2 hilariously bad TOs/game and at the worst times too. they couldn't generate much from the TB position, but it was better than whatever we have now.

Something changed after that ND game. More of a focus on Power and pulling guards, a lack of proper technique on the OL, DG98's confidence went into the tank. Even more TEs. I assume the coaches started trying to remove the possibility of TOs. More b/t tackles, less reliance on DG98. Maybe they put too much of the fear of TOs into him, but Gardner hasn't been the same since.

You can't blame the coaches for trying (to limit TOs), but they clearly failed in executing the changes they made to do so. The offense went from ruthlessly effecient with a weak running game from TB and a suspect OL, to [whatever that unfolded lawn chair metaphor] from TinCup.

Clearly there were a lot of reasons for losing this game. Fucked up game mgmnt, FG issues, plain ol bad luck and perfect exectuion from PSU. I think people are dissappointed b/c we probably still should have won in spite of these if we just didn't get into a 21-10 hole to begin with and didn't go 'run - run - center the ball - fuck up the 40 yard FG' in OT. Borges did adjust in the 2nd half. they owned the 3rd qtr. the 4th was called fine given the 2 score lead with 6 to play and the one score lead with 1:40 to play. but for some reason in OT, they went back to what didn't work and ignored what did.

Stan Parrish as a possible candidate for OC? He's at Eastern now and has worked at Michigan before, and I'm pretty sure there will be a staff shakeup in Ypsi again.  Only question is if he will want to remain un-retired.  He un-retired to take the Eastern position.
