Everything sounds too surprised/too hopeful. This type of game doesn't happen two weeks in a row unless there is some serious serious flaw going on. Minnesota's offensive and defensive lines are light years ahead of ours and I have a feeling we're going to be physically dominated in that game, leading to Hoke's first home loss. You're using CMU, Akron, and UConn as a sample set for assessing our defense and yet we yielded 9, 24, and 21 respectively against these teams... Face it. The defense is atrocious, just like the offense.

Are you sure you're looking at total yards? Because CMU racked up all of 210 and UConn got 206 (which included that 20+ yard pass to end to game). CMU managed 3 FGs, UConn's offense got 14 points, with one drive starting at the 11 yard line. ND got 30 points off and 410 yards, but that's not that far off their average on the year (393.3 yards and 26.5 points per game).

Basically, the defense has had one very bad game (Akron) and one below average, statistically speaking, game (ND). The defense is the only reason Michigan won against UConn.

really nice throws/completions. The inference that you make is that the defense is somehow the equivalent of the RR era when you use the word (atrocious).

The podcast cuts off for me with Brian asking, "Their offensive co-ordinator?!?" It's like an MGo-Cliffhanger. Will we find out the answer next week in MGoPodcast 5.B?

Am I reading it wrong, or does Brian not seem all that impressed with Countess because other DBs are getting burned on Fly Routes?  I'm of the opinion that Blake is the best CB at Michigan since Marlin Jackson.  Granted, not a terribly high hurdle, but he looks like the real deal.  The only way he could have more impact on the game is to be less good so that the opposition will throw to his side more, which wha....?
