MGoPodcast 3.12: MGoDitchParty FTW

About an hour.

Topics!

MGODITCHPARTY. A real good time.

ACE ON THE SIDELINES. Job perk, that.

DENAAAARD. Denard.

INVERTED VEEEEER. Yes sir.

WHA HAPPEN, SECONDARY? Where did you go?

BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. Wisconsin is one loss away from Dead To Us status.

BOWL SCENARIOS. Boo Georgia.

BCS COMPLAINING. This year the BCS proposes to have a national title game between LSU and Alabama. Assuming LSU does not lose the SEC title game, nothing Alabama can do will make them have a better season than LSU. The BCS is dumb.

SONGS. "Blue Suede Shoes" by Carl Perkins, "One Chance" by Modest Mouse, "New Coat of Paint" by Tom Waits, and "Sons and Daughters" by the Decemberists.

I rewatched the Steve Watson late hit call, and the hit and the whistle were almost simultaneous. However, I think that it was a technically correct call because, if I understand correctly, NCAA rules say that the ball is dead the moment someone is in possession of the ball in the opponent's endzone, not when the ref blows the whistle. So even though the ref hadn't blown the whistle when Watson started his hit, Denard was 5 yards over the goal line and the ball was dead. Ergo, late hit.

What really got me was the late hit by Kovacs. By the letter of the law, yes he hit him one step out of bounds. However, by the spirit of the law, had Kovacs pulled up and Morgan missed the push, the OSU player would be dancing in the end zone. It was only a 4 yard penalty after a big play, so not that big of a deal, but it did annoy me a bit.

Great work Brian and Ace.  Thanks for providing the "soundtrack" to my many long drives for work.  Just a quick thought.  Whether it was intentional or not I loved listening to "Sons and Daughters" close out the podcast while thinking back to "Better Son or Daughter" from the 2009 hype video.  The contrast between "You'll be a better son or daughter..." from 2009 to "Here we are now, sons and daughters" after the 2011 season and especially the win over Ohio was beautiful.
