MGoPodcast 2.5: So Angry We Skipped A Number

Two consecutive as we get the hang of being in town and not having fiascoes. This one is ANGRY even after my incoherent rant about that awful Audi commercial* hit the cutting room floor, mostly because Tim has a screaming rage issue with BTN color guy Chris Martin. I just mute the TV, myself.

We talk about the Purdue game, discuss how old I am for remembering Justin Fargas, and then bring in Jamiemac of Just Cover to discuss the weekend's Big Ten slate. Charges of inappropriate music fandom were leveled at Tim in response to his smug ignorance of anything that happened before 2005, but I'd like to make a correction: I accused him of liking queefcore when I meant crunkcore. A thousand apologies to the worst bands in the history of the universe.

*(You know, the one that starts off like lame Adbusters snark with various luxury car owners acting like consumer zombies about their preferred brand only to be shown the true light of justice and progress: Audis. I want it to die.)

You mention Northwestern 2008, there was also Northwestern 2006.  I don't remember if the game in 2006 was bad, but the weather was just as terrible.  Being in the band and holding on to a metal instrument, it sucked... a lot.

Tim's rant on Chris Martin felt like everything I wanted to say on Saturday, but no one who was watching with me would have liked it all that much.

Fire Chris Martin - Offer Brian Griese lots of money to take his place

JamieMac was probably laughing about Brian being accused of being old for remembering Fargas, since JamieMac was probably sneaking into games at the Stadium during Tom Harmon's 1940 Heisman Trophy season.

I actually really like that Audi commercial. Or any of the direct advertising that's out there. I also really like Audi's jab at BMW commercial too (the bottom one)

Anyway, Embedded below for all to say "OH! that's what Brian meant" and also for everyone who disagrees with me to neg:

The one Brian hates (and I kinda like):

Sometimes, I am scrambling for info while we chat. I need to be better organized. But, here are the actual numbers for some of the stuff I was rambling about in the podcast

MSU is 20-5 ATS in their final home game, dating back to 1985.

Wisco is 9-22 Straight Up in November road games and I think a majority of the wins in this stretch were at IU and Minny

Northwestern is 17-9 ATS as a Big 10 Dog and the underdog in Wildcat games are on a 19-5 ATS run.

Use this info at your convenience and risk!

Thanks for listening to the Podcast, guys!!

The rain during this game was biblical.  It made the 2008 Northwestern seem dry. Fortunately, it was in mid-October and was relatively warm.

The 2008 NW and 1998 NW games rank as a tie for second for the worst weather I've experienced during a football game with the 1995 Purdue Game as the clear worst weather experience ever. (5-0 final score on 11/11/95).

I was also at that game.   There were a lot of no-shows and most of those who did fled at halftime.   I remember wearing multiple layers including one of those 1/8" thick vinyl ponchos on the outside and still came home soaked to the bone.

After the game outside the stadium, there were way too many people waiting to climb on to far too few warm buses.   It got really nasty.   This time it was the people, not the weather.   A good friend who is normally extremely laid back snapped when one too many NW undergrads cut the line to hop on the bus.   I thought he was going to kill this one kid.   You'd have to know that on a good day my friend looks like a crazed hobo who sleeps under a bridge, so yeah, the kid went to the back of the line.

Now what the heck what I was talking about?   Oh yeah, football.   Since then anytime Fargas' name is mentioned, it's guaranteed that someone will say, "That guy's a mudder!  Remember that one game at Northwestern?"    Yes, yes I do in fact.

The loudest Boo on Saturday came during a Third Quarter timeout when the West Lafayette weather man walked onto the field and spoke to the crowd over the loud speakers.

("I'm XYZ weatherman from News 7. ....)

Purdue fans, Michigan fans, I think even the players were booing him.  Pretty funny.

Not funny that he had forcast 64degrees and cloudy with the possibility of some late afternoon showers.  Then we sat in a 44 degree, windy driving rainstorm for 3 hours.

If Michigan had scored when we threw the pick 6 before half the stadium would have been empty for the second half.  people were getting ready to leave when that pulled them back into the game.

Am I the only one who is having audio problems with this podcast?  The intro music comes in fine, but then the voices are extremely faint, and echo-y.  I have to turn the volume way up to kinda, sorta hear them.  The comments are also formatted all weird for this post, but not for any others that I go to on the site.  Hmmm.
