MGoPodcast 1.4: Giggling, Notre Dame, More Giggling
We decided everyone wanted to talk about last weekend instead of next weekend so the podcast comes early this week. Our special guest is frequent diarist and Gamblor acolyte Jamiemac, who's got his own digs at Just Cover now. Over the course of a half hour, we talk about Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan's new ceiling, Jamie's crazy theories about Phil Steele, and reveal the last time Michigan hit a quadruple (win plus losses from the three main rivals) like they did over the weekend.

I know it's a long season and I don't want to see Tate get hurt. But I think Robinson has too much talent to save him. I wish RR would find a way to line up Robinson in the slot or something.

The audio quality is better than what you would get on a CD and it was recorded is a semi-pro studio. It is good audio quality.

Like maybe the "schadentrifecta"
Or if you want something a little more obscure: We could call it an "an african flag day" Because many african flags have green (for sparty) gold (for ND) and red (for tosu).

Disagree with the Tate vs. Hypothetical Henne comments... Tate doesnt deal with hypotheticals and potential, he deals with reality...and while Henne had a nice career at Michigan, they still lost well over 10 games when he started, and he really only showed true brilliance in a couple of games... Tate has showed true brilliance already in his 2nd game...the sky is the limit for him and if he stays healthy, he surely will have many more repeat performances of Saturday...

I agree. I liked Henne, but everyone remembers the Rose Bowl game and a few other good games, but he certainly was not transcendent. I was in school when Brady and Henson were there, and I would rank both of them above Henne in terms of recent UM QBs.

This thing crashes my Firefox every time I try to stream it. Don't know if that's a more widespread problem or not. Downloading it works fine.

I think there might be some sketchy encoding going on -- I had to download it too, and on playback there were a few points where it seemed to skip either forwards or backwards by up to half a minute or so (...er, half a minute back. No idea how far the forward-skips were, obviously)
Still, entertaining listen nonetheless

Sorry, but Henne is my favorite Michigan QB in history. We need some more time before we put him up there with Henne.

I can understand that a lot of younger guys may feel that way...but older guys, or people in the middle such as myself have seen many more clutch performances from Michigan QBs in the past...and then Henne, who had a nice career...dont get me wrong here...but he didnt come through in the clutch that often...lost 4 straight to OSU, lost to App State and played terrible vs. Oregon etc. The list is long...
now that is not all on Henne, he put up good numbers and had a nice career....but IMO, when they brought him up in this interview and compared Tate's upside to what Henne accomplished, and then used the words "Hypothetically",,,
there is the "rub"...the word "Hypothetically" applied to a lot of Henne's career at Michigan....he was still a fine QB, but never really came close to the reality and didnt do much of what Tate did in his 2nd game vs. a good opponent...
thats all Im saying... It seems that Tate in the long run will be better at fulfilling his potential, but of course...it is a long way away from that.

The thing is that outside of Jake Long, the line kind of sucked (especially compared to the lines in the last half of the 90s) while Henne was here. And as much as I truly did like Lloyd Carr, he didn't always put his QB in a position to succeed.
Not saying our line is great this year (though it seems at least serviceable), but Rich Rod is putting Tate in a position to do well. A lot of roll outs and what not and throwing on first down.

It's weeks like this that I actually like living in Columbus. The game has passed Tressel by, Pryor has lousy footwork and a lousy attitude, and a lot of sneering about "Michigan's back" because they broke back into the top 25 by beating a "mediocre" Notre Dame. So much entertainment to be had!
I haven't laughed so much or been so giddy in a long time. Go Blue and May The Forcier Be With You!

Thanks for saying that Pryor isn't a good QB. I have been saying that to my o$u friends but they think I'm crazy (obviously the source doesn't cause me to question my own sanity). One friend thinks I ludicrous for saying that Forcier will be a better QB than Pryor and that if Rodriguez had his druthers, he would take Pryor over Forcier in a heartbeat. After Saturday I'm sooo glad we have Forcier and not Pryor.

I think that Forcier is better. I would take Forcier over Pryor in a heartbeat. I don't know that Pryor will have a high ceiling. I don't think Pryor is a good QB NOW. But I'm not ready to say that by the time his time at tUOS is over, Pryor won't be a good QB.

I just love that Michigan beat ND. My favorite wins are UM beating OSU '91 (Desmond's Strike the Pose game) and beating OSU losing 22-0 in '76. Oh, how sweet it is now as well!
As it has been said the "The giggling is contagious". I'm calling people all over the nation to giggle at ND fans and giggle with the Michigan ones. I'm also giggling that this win may insure that Michigan may be 7-0 by the time they play PSU. Giggle, giggle, giggle!!! If we beat PSU I'm just going to laugh a hearty, belly shaking laugh. More favorite games to come for sure.

For what it's worth, I've taken due note of those rare occurrences over the years where:
Michigan wins
Ohio State loses
Notre Dame loses
I call such occurrences "trifectas." Nothing special. But it gets the point across. Since I don't live in Michigan, I don't have an unusually strong hate for State...but I admit that it is growing with each passing year in my Michigan fandom, particularly now that Dantonio has taken the helm.
Saturday, with State losing, was just the icing on the trifecta for me. One of my alma maters (Cincinnati) also rolled on to a big win (side note: BRIAN KELLY PLEASE DON'T GO TO NOTRE DAME!), but my other alma mater, Miami (OH), once again had their collective asses handed to them on a silver platter. They've now been outscored 90-0 on the season. Yeah, you read that right. Eight straight quarters without a single point.
As far as where the ND game ranks in my "best attended in person," it's gotta be a close #2. I'll still put the OSU 2003 game at #1. But it's close!

One more side note: on the drive home from Toledo on Sunday morning after the game, we were listening to Cincinnati sports talk radio, and most of the callers wanted to talk Ohio State. And most were calling for Tressel's head. The host of the show was dumbfounded. He did read an e-mail he received, which (paraphrasing) said something like, "I love watching Ohio State lose on TV -- especially when they show the stupid looks on the faces of all those mouthbreathers in the stands."
