“I’m more of a back-to-the-basket type of big man that rebounds a lot,” Swanigan said on Wednesday, describing his game. “I have a Zach Randolph type of game — that’s who I base my game off of. Being physical and playing with both hands on the rim.”

“He passes, he makes other guys better and he can score the ball as well. With that freshman adjustment, it’s all about how quickly you adjust to the speed of the game and the length of the players on the court,” Jordan said. “We know he has good vision and passing ability. Kids come in as freshmen like Trey and they don’t know what to say from a leadership standpoint, so they’re just listening and that’s where the other guys come in and show them the ropes.”

MGoPodcast 1.10: Sunshine, Penn State Pops, Everything Is Wonderful

Unfortunately, we did not flag down an Illinois blogger for this week's podcast, as I wasn't aware of anyone with a regularly-updated Illinois blog. But we do talk with Tim about the Penn State game—which was awesome—and bring in Jamiemac for the usual trip around the Big Ten, with the discussion of the Michigan-Illinois game serving as this week's opponent preview.

Note: here's a handy link to subscribe via ITunes.

Great stuff as always guys. I was waiting for this one all week after that devastating loss on Saturday. There aren't a whole of fellow fans to commiserate with here in La-La land.

There was a great moment of unintentional humor 2/3 of the way through where Brian or Tim went a coughing frenzy. Might want to edit that whopper out. It sounded like someone was dying.

Uh, not for nothing, but I've heard that type of cough before. Soda? Sure, whatever you say. No problem, I dont know how you could listen to me otherwise.

Seriously, I thought this turned out well.

It'll be fun Saturday watching Iowa spit the bit after pulling out the 1997/2002 comparisons. Just ask Barbaro of my jinx talents.

i don't think you're taking the effect of more time in a system into account enough. then again this was done pretty much immediately after the penn st game. i don't think it'd be fair to any Michigan fan to be asked to be realistic about the future after that game.

I would like to clarify that the 1997 Michigan team was not like the 2002 tOSU team that won so many close games. (by a touchdown or less 7 times) That Michigan team won by a touchdown or less only 4 times that season, and three of those games were against ND, tOSU, and Washington State in the Rose Bowl. The rest of the games were won easily by 10 or more points (and all but one of those were 16+ point wins), 4 of which came against top ten opponents (at the time of play - I'll give that Colorado did not live up to the preseason hype), and 7 games against top 25 teams.

We had a dominant team that year, and would have performed admirably against the coaches' poll darling, Nebraska, had we been able to play them. Too bad the BCS... just kidding.
