Crabcakes and football. That's what Maryland does!
Mike Lantry, 1972
Alabama bangs, Michigan commit.

4*, 94, #7 DT,
Poggi chose Michigan over Alabama and also held offers from the likes of Auburn, Cal, Florida, Iowa, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Mizzou, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and others. Needless to say, he's got a strong list of suitors.
Poggi recorded 49 tackles, 11 TFL, ten sacks, and a forced fumble as a junior in 2011.
FAKE 40 TIME
247 lists a 4.70 40 time for Poggi, which merits a three FAKEs out of five.
You can see some additional highlights in this video feature on Poggi in which he also answers a few questions. His dream prom date will be met with approval around these parts, I'm sure.
PREDICTION BASED ON FLIMSY EVIDENCE
UPSHOT FOR THE REST OF THE CLASS
Crabcakes and football. That's what Maryland does!
What a great addition to an already great class!
What a great 2fer!
I checked in this morning hope for one and instead... Great start to the week!
Do you ever read recruit descriptions from the sites and wonder if they're just copying and pasting themselves?
Or perhaps, like a kind of post-modernism generator, they just type in a few values for "pad level", "relative size" "compete level", etc., and the computer puts together yet another paragraph for them...
SO GLAD you chose to come to Michigan!! Can't wait to see you playing in the Big House on Saturdays!!
RDT was wrong again on his prediction (this one being that Poggi was going to end up at Bama).
RDT has some insightful commentary, but we can rule him out as some Michigan recruiting insider.
...or as an insider of any kind.
Yeah, but he puts more good information on the board then the majority of people on here. Ya trolls
To be an "insider"? I just think of him as a good guy, from Bama, who had insight based on perspective not MGo. This does not ruin his credibility.
Even paid experts are not 100%
Well, he talks nebulously about "what he is hearing" from his "sources" so I guess you can interpret that however you want. Look, I hope he leeps posting. I like his posts. No worries there. He just doesn't have any more information than any of the rest of us who read recruiting info, are on twitter, etc. That's OK... not being an insider doesn't make you not welcome here.
"word around campus"
So he wasn't calling it himself. He was saying what he heard some people say. I don't remember him saying he was a lock to Bama.
I don't understand the hate for him.
I never quite understood the infatuation either. I guess they go hand in hand, love and hate.
Your sense is similar to mine. He was providing what buzz there was at Alabama regarding recruits both Michigan and Alabama are recruiting. I still enjoy getting a different perspective.on things, so I hope he keeps posting.
"I never quite understood the infatuation either."
"Infatuation" might be too strong a word. "Respect" might be more appropriate.
RollDamnTide strikes me as sensible guy offering his viewpoints, and offering them in an even-handed way. In the world of internet forum commenters that's a bit of a rare thing.
My two cents.
I think the infatuation part is strictly because we kick off the season against the Tide this year. Sure, people may have bought into him as an insider on the recruiting trail, but if his handle were "War Eagle," would any of us really give a shit? It's not just a different perspective on things, it is the Alabama part in particular that gave him some kind of notoriety and in turn a supposed credibility. Regardless, I hope to see him continue posting despite the whiffs. Glad to have a non-troll fan of another big program contributing.
I think the infatuation comes from his frequent posts from a couple months ago. In them, almost everybody was a Michigan lean or had great things to say about Michigan. This always seems to +5 on here, ecspecially when you're an objective contributor.
Said in a post that Poggi was leaning both ways. But isn't what he hears the point? His "sources"? And the word he was getting was, well, wrong again. I mean, it doesn't matter if he "feels" like a recruit is going to do something....because there are hundreds of posters on here who can do the same thing. I "Feel" like they're going to find a hidden year of eligibility for Tom Brady and he's going to come back and play for a year. Take it for what it's worth. Because it doesn't matter. What matters if someone who actually knows slomething hears it, and I pass it along. And theses insiders are now 0-3.
No one hates RDT. He's an entertaining poster. It's just the gushing love some of us don't get, especially when he's shown to not know anything more than the anybody else who follows recruiting and recruiting sites. It's not the comments...everyone gets an opinion on here. It's the elevated status that his insight means anything more than mine, yours, or most anyone else. His claim on being wrong on the last one was he's never been so surprised in all the time he's followed recruiting...... And he's what? Early twenties? It's not like he's been an insider for decades.
He should post. Everyone should enjoy his posts. They just shouldn't take them that seriously.
No hate from me..... I hope he continues to post here. I even hope that he continues to offer his predictions on where people will end up.
With that said, I also expect that the Lemmings temper their lust for his knowledge (through no fault of RDT's).
It's always interesting to hear what they're saying in different parts of the Country, because I'm sure they're hearing things, or interpreting them differently than the Sam Webb's of the world in this neck of the woods. It's summer...what else do we have to talk about?
Just that RDT should be giving the impression of, and (as you say, more importantly) those that are reading it should take it all, a little more FWIW.
"Country" "neck of the woods"
Like you stated he provides good insight from a non-MGo prospective which is refreshing. Its pretty safe to say his credibility is shot, but he's still a pretty good read.
I think saying his credibility is shot is a bit of an overstatement. I like his posts, I enjoy the perspective as many on here have stated. If Alabama insiders thought he was theirs and that's what RDT shared with us, how does that ruin his credibility? RDT is credible in his reporting of what those around him (who may claim to be insiders) share. They were wrong. It happens. I thought for sure we were going to get Garnett or Diamond based on what people on these boards were saying. Didn't happen. I don't see anyone calling their credibility into question.
As a rule, I really enjoy posts from thoughtful members of other fan bases. RationalBuckeye, RDT, that Irish guy, etc and want to encourage them to post as long as they aren't trolling.
We currently have 2,569 points in Rivals team rankings, which would have given us 2nd overall in last years rankings behind only Alabama (who had 2,621), and we still have a few more spots left!
Rivals reconfigured the way they give points for this year, so last year's point totals are somewhat irrelevant to this year's totals.
Dammit Magnus, why must you rain on my parade!
but I admittedly don't know the answer to this question...is the new system a more accurate depiction of the point totals to reality? Or is this just one person's attempt at causing more confusion for us? (Read: Me)
I don't really know how to answer that question. I don't think assigning points to a person depicts "reality" in any way, shape, or form. It's a different formula, intended for more clarity, but whether it's actually clearer or not is for other people or the future to decide.
I guess I could have phrased the question more straight forward by asking is it better or worse than the previous formula. But reading your answer above leads me to think you're saying, "We'll see."
Ya, Magnus!! Couldn't give us even 24 hours in the sun, could ya? Are those drops of urine i feel on my feet?
...And I can see more guys adding stars (rather than guys losing stars) as well. Some of these guys will be 5 stars and some will move up to 4 stars, IMO.
Definitely agree. I think C'sonte York for one, will move up to 4-star level when it is all said and done, and Shane should hold the coveted 5 star ranking at the end of the day.
Welcome to the family Henry!
What impresses me most about this class is not just that it is stacked with talent but that the coaches are able to address areas of need so effectively. It's awesome they have the confidence to turn away top talent at positions that are "full" to focus on needs and actually get commits of equal quality in those positions of need as well. If we get Treadwell, this class will be pretty much flawless.
Mike Farrell would never let anything with the word 'Scout' in it be ranked that high.
Also, I believe he plans on attending the UA All American game, so my dream of a 'Michigan vs. Not-Michigan' all-star game is one step closer to fruition.
At this point it is going to be Team Michigan, et al (East) vs Team Michigan, et al (West)
Welcome aboard Henry.
Great news. Welcome to the family young man!
Welcome to the team big cat!
Rest of this class is just putting icing on the cake.
Can someone make a gif with Coach Hoke's head on the Swedish Chefs body? Muppets!
"We are playing with house money."
I admit, I thought he was off to Bama. Very happy to be wrong. Welcome aboard Mr. Poggi!
Now we know the secret to winning head to head battles. Conceding we've lost in the days leading up to decision time= +1 recruit. The Cycle hath been broked....however, I cant wait to hear from those who will say, "Saban must not have REALLY wanted him."
Congrats and welcome to the fold
Saban didnt happen to show you the playbook while you were down there being recruited did you? :)
THis Michigan/Kate Upton tie-in is really paying off.
However, we need more Kate Kontent! Sorry, Content.
