Rivals or Scout (no-pay headline) gave the impression that he just got back from an Arkansas visit and was very impressed.
that is nice bonus change
All offered prospects can be found on the 2012 offer list.
With two commitments in last week's update, space was tight, so I didn't spend a lot of time talking about the visit reaction for KY QB Zeke Pike. As he said to Tom:
I think it's a great opportunity to be that next guy at Michigan. It's a program on a national stage, when you say Michigan football people turn their heads. I'm excited to continue to build the relationships...
It was just a feel that I got, it's hard to explain. There's only been a couple other places that I got that feeling and Michigan was one of those places...
I'm really close friends with Chris Barnett who signed with Michigan in the 2011 class. We're really good friends and he stays on me about going to Michigan. It's a school that intrigues me and has a lot of tradition.
Those quotes are exciting on their own, but Pike's upped the ante in the time since. He talked to Sam Webb last week about luring a "Mega Class" to Michigan ($, info in header). I'm not going to claim that means he's close to committing, but they wouldn't be having that discussion unless he really likes Michigan, right? On Monday's Recruiting Roundup, Sam was VERY optimistic about Michigan's chances with Pike, going so far as to say he would pick Michigan if today was Signing Day. He also said Pike is talking to the likes of MO WR Dorial Green-Beckham and other top prospects about attending Michigan together(!!!!!).
Pike told an Arkansas interviewer (video link) that he wants to have a top 8 by the end of the month, and reach a decision sometime this summer. He also says he has a private list of favorites that he's not ready to come out with yet. I would guess Michigan is on that list, especially seeing as how the Wolverines are "adamant" about landing him ($, info in header).
OH LB Kaleb Ringer plans to commit to a school on April 15th, and he basically tweeted that it's going to be Michigan.
MI TE Ron Thompson could also decide at any time ($, info in header), and it seems like Michigan is probably the favorite to land him.
OH LB Joe Bolden isn't quite in the "almost sure thing" category with Ringer and Thompson, but...
I spoke with him tonight and he told me that he will be back up to Michigan next Tuesday (April 12th) with his parents. He also told me that he believes he is close to a decision, he's just not sure when it will come.
...maybe he should be.
OH QB Maty Mauk was the subject of last week's Sam Webb column in The Detroit News. First, Allen Trieu breaks down his game:
"Nationally, he's definitely in the top 10 [quarterbacks]. I think he has a very good arm and he can make passes into tight windows, but his best asset may be his ability to improvise and make plays out of nothing. Having been coached his whole life and getting to play varsity at a young age has helped him mature from the standpoint of making decisions, leading, and doing some of the little things it takes other quarterbacks a couple years to learn in college."
Maty visited Ann Arbor over the weekend, and he would like to make a decision before his senior season.
OH QB Austin Appleby visited Michigan last weekend, and was told he needs to camp to earn an offer.
IN QB Aloyis Gray was told by Michigan's staff that they want to see him throw before they'll offer. He plans to make it to the Wolverines' summer camp.
MA QB AJ Doyle is drawing interest from Michigan.
MI WR Efe-Scott Emuakpor tweeted that a recent visit to Ann Arbor was "the real deal," for what it's worth.
OH TE Sam Grant was at Michigan's junior day ($, info in header).
OH TE AJ Williams had a very good visit to Ann Arbor. Tom thinks the Wolverines are now in a good position for Williams.
He went over the depth chart and his coaching style. He said they'll be running pro style but they're going to still run Denard. I think I definitely fit in that offense.
The Wolverines still have work to do if they want to land Pirsig. He wants to start narrowing his list soon.
PA OL JJ Denman is visiting soon ($, info in header).
IL LB Antonio Morrison will visit this weekend. He grew up a Michigan fan, and has a prior relationship with Michigan's coaches from their San Diego State days. He says the Wolverines will be in his top three, and probably number one, if they offer.
OH S Allen Gant found a Michigan visit "interesting," but he does not have an offer yet ($, info in header).
NY CB Wayne Morgan enjoyed his Michigan visit enough to move the Wolverines into his top 3.
Tom Lemming's National Top 100 came out over the weekend, and plenty of uncommitted prospects on the list have Michigan offers:
As Brian (briefly) mentioned in the Monday UV, the Scout 300 is out. Blue in Cleveland has compiled the list of prospects with MIchigan interest. Michigan's current commits received position rankings:
Fluff on PA DE Noah Spence being named the #1 defensive end by Scout. He plans to decide on Signing Day.
24/7 Sports has started their release of rankings with the first set of 5-stars.
Michigan's coaches have told OH OL Kyle Dodson (obligatory EPIC SHIRT photo) that they want him to be part of a revived running game. Uh... they are aware that Michigan was one of the best running teams in the country last year, right?
Michigan is showing interest in MI OL Kelby Latta.
I want to have it down to three schools by the time football season comes around. I know Wisconsin will be in there and the other two spots are open. Michigan has a chance to be in there.
The Badgers have offered but the Wolverines have not.
AL LB Kwon Alexander has a Michigan offer, but it seems certain his Signing Day decision will be between Alabama and Auburn.
Michigan offeree PA RB Greg Garmon updates U Recruit on his status. NC TE/OL Mark Harrell enjoyed his recent trip to Ann Arbor ($, info in header). Michigan "surprises" MI DE Mario Ojemudia on a recent visit. One must assume that's a pleasant surprise. CA OL Jordan Simmons is mentored by a former Michigan player ($, info in header).
Rivals or Scout (no-pay headline) gave the impression that he just got back from an Arkansas visit and was very impressed.
explains to Pike why Michigan is much much better.
I'm sure he was just referring to the state of Arkansas itself, not the university or its football program.
Is there any word on if/when Diggs and Brown will make a visit up to AA? Both just seem like great playmakers when the ball is in their hands, although scout has Diggs as a CB, is that what we are recruiting him as?
Diggs is listed as the #2 safety on scout. Both he and Brown are scheduled to be here for the spring game.
Many people have made the comparison. It seems that both players have been coached up during their HS careers.
I think they're very similar players, but I would give the nod to Forcier on throwing mechanics. I'm a little concerned about Mauk's throwing motion and release point. I think he's too short to sidearm every throw.
Hearing combinations like "Pike and Green-Beckham" makes me ridiculously excited for the possibilities of this recruiting class. Never in a million years would I have predicted that Hoke could even get people talking about this kind of stuff. Point: Hoke.
Somehow I picture him sounding like brad pitt in snatch as well ya know....a piker!
I'm actually not surprised that Hoke could attract this kind of interest. Football recruiting is as much about the institution as it is the coach, for one thing. But also, under Carr we had a rep as a school that churned out QBs and WRs to the NFL with machine-like consistency. We are now going back to a similar offensive philosophy. Opposing schools can't use the "Their system won't prepare you for the NFL" negative recruiting argument against us anymore.
What's really exciting to me is the possibility of Borges developing a hybrid offensive system that Denard can thrive in. If so, we could be like OSU and be attractive to any kind of QB, whether pro-style or dual-threat. We haven't been like that since Bo.
Mega class including Pike?
the Tremendous Twenty
A football equivalent of the Fab 5 would (minus the whole vacating wins, taking down manners, program decimation, me getting teary-eyed during the recent documentary thing) be freeking amazing.
All it takes is one great class and we will be right back atop the B10! Come on Hoke, work some of that magic!
The Mean eighteen. Since i really doubt this class gets to twenty.
I know this has been discussed before, but if we get ringer and bolden is it concievable that we could take two more if ross and jenkins-stone want to commit?? just seems like a large number of linebackers the past few classes (although this would be a very talented group)
Michigan. If its Ringer and Bolden so be it. Not chopped liver plus we will know they want to play and attend the The University of Michigan. No worries.
Jenkins-Stone and Ross are the two best players in that group, so yeah, I think we would take both...
...but Ringer and Bolden MIGHT not be able to keep their spots.
Ultimately, I think the 2012 class will expand from about 16 to around 20, so it shouldn't be a huge issue.
I would love to add him! If we don't I don't think it kills us. We have a redshirt freshman in gardener most likely and can land morris next class.
Although I would say this would be a terrific class with him recruiting for us.
Get some coach Hoke.
Obviously the coaches know that stastically we were one of the best running teams in the nation last year. But we all know that was based off one extraordinary player who got hurt in 10 of the games. By revived, I am assuming the coaches mean a new running game that focuses more on our stable of running backs and power running. Just a hunch. Good update though, as always.
I would love me some mega class.
I saw him on an unoffical visit to toledo yesterday. Didn't seem like the happiest guy ever while there. I really think his heart is set on Michigan and I really hope he gets his offer an earns it.
I don't think Allen Gant will get an offer, and if he does it won't be for a while. We might only take one safety this year, maybe two, and we're already in on guys like Jarros Wilson and Wayne Morgan, plus a few others we've offered. Gant will only get an offer if we start to strike out on some of these other guys.
I want Jarrod Wilson in our class. It looks like he has the instincts to play center field. I can't remember the last time we got a true FS. In hindsight, not signing Sean Parker was a big deal.
I really want Jerrod Wilson too, he's actually one of the guys I'm most excited about for this class.
If Gant gets an offer, I'm afraid that will mean that we aren't pulling in a better safety. That could be bad news, because we need a good free safety. We're pretty thin at that spot already.
Bryce McNeal was repping and recruiting for Michigan for a long time before bailing for Clemson.
about avery walls?
Legacy Allen Gant thought his visit was "interesting?"
WTF does that mean?
Also, I find the Ringer story very interesting. He has offers from us and Iowa (dad was a Hawkeye) but no offer from MSU (uncle Javon's alma mater). Ringer is either one of the top sleepers of this class or the most over rated prospect. I'm guessing Hoke/Mattison and Ferenz see something that others (including Dantonio or Cheaty McSweatervest) do not.
I can't take credit for the moniker....someone here used it and I liked it so much I vowed to use it forever.
I met him at Bo's memorial service at the stadium and wanted to squash the little munchkin right there. I have an unhealthy hatred for MSC and tsio, equally. It's kind of sad, really.
Actually its not sad at all. I'm a Christian but I'm pretty sure I've hoped their plane crashed....sooo yeah
I'm not sure he is a sleeper. He is a 4 star and the number 1 linebacker in ohio
I have given a half-ass effort to search this rating but can't find it. Can you provide a link please?
Sorry I'm on my cell and can't find it but I'm pretty sure if you check out his scout profile its on in or around there
Kaleb Ringer, Scout Profile - http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=4898190
I've seen two types of Kaleb Ringer - the aggressive, attacking version and the lackadaisical version. I'm wondering if that discrepancy is causing some teams to hold off.
Hopefully the chances of him coming to Michigan are very Pikely
I'm kinda tired today, that's the best I can do
who hated the way the hiring/firing went down. . .
it doesn't matter at all what Hoke et al think about whether the team could run last season. All they have to care about is this season, bless 'em. And it's fair to say we're seeing a lot of good signs.
I teased Brian about his revisionism in the other day's Hokepost, but it's really true that if the O guy and the D guy are clever leaders of men, then an earnest and hungry Hoke who gets 'em graduated is gonna get love down the line.
Love the sound of that. I'm loving the size of these offensive lineman the staff is offering. We're going to land some great linebackers whether its Bolden, Ringer, Ross, Jenkins-Stone, or hell I'd be fine with all four of them. I can only dream of the future defenses Mattison is going to have take the field
Hoke is a confident mofo that's for sure.
Hoke is creating a buzz. I don't see Hoke doing anything less than stellar in regards to recruiting.
As far as QB's, I think we will get Pike, if not Pike, Hoke will bring in another talented talented QB, and the best part is, nobody knows this better than Hoke.
I have them.
That's the way....uh huh, uh huh....I Pike it....uh huh. uh huh!!!
The top 247 recruits by 247sports have been released.
Edit: missed it on mgoboard
We will build this megaclass and it will be a megaclass and we shall look upon the megaclass and it will be good.
I'm starting to get that feeling I had in the good old days. When the very mention of Michigan
struck fear in our opponents.
Since Pike is recruiting Beckham for us maybe we should like, you know, recruit him too.
news,i know it's early but if we land Dorial Green-Beckham,the number 1 jersey will be back!
I like the way things are shaping up....denard and gardner ripping it up for a few years before making the transition back to elite pro-style qbs of the past. we'll be back to the brady/gerbac/henne/griese/hensen style nfl qb producing train
