Wisconsin gets Wisconsin'd after Wisconsinning Florida
Wisky hit one to send it to OT.
Wow, that was incredible. Both last second shots were off-balance prayers, too.
Wow.
THE GATORS WIN IT AT THE BUZZER!

Crazy finish. Was pulling for some B1G representation in the Elite Eight/Final Four though; I don't want to hear about SEC basketball being a thing, ever.
And man, that free throw shooting. So so bad.
Agreed. If they quoted Snakey one more time aboout SEC basketball I was going to put my fist through my TV.
I never root for the SEC in anything.
Sorry, Freudian slip (not really). It's Sankey, SEC Commissioner.
You can't spell Snakey without Sankey.

What's really pathetic is that he is allowed to keep ripping Michigan. It's really seeming like they encourage it there at ESPN. I mean, we all know the SEC envies the North and the B1G and that goes back to, well you know which war but it's really sad. How is this professional? You don't hear anyone on the B1G network ripping the SEC or any other team.
ESPN knows that if the SEC little stronghold in the South is lost and their football talent continues to see the light and get out of that shithole, the bleeding will hurt all the money they put into the SEC Network so foolishly. They grabbed onto the one thing they felt everyone would still watch and would never lose it's power. Too bad bitches. ESPN will be gone in 10 years.
however, never expected going into the tourney. Just hate that Kentucky keeps moving on ... don't like their approach to college sport.
I can't believe Rick Barry's grandson shoots his free throws under handed. It's so odd, yet he's actually a good free throw shooter.
It's so retro . . . it's kinda cool.
not his grandson.
not just good.
How did that happen? It looked like the Wisky dude lost his grip or something - or maybe he just didn't know Barry was behind him. Throw that thing down!
Hayes was really gassed and Barry was fresh off the bench.
That was Iverson, not Hayes.
Iverson didn't do the fundamentally correct thing: use the rim and his body as protection. If he does a basic left hand layup, there's no way Barry gets that block. Iverson's body and the rim offered perfect protection. Worst case scenario is a Barry foul.
It's so odd, yet he's actually a good free throw shooterNo "yet" about it - underhand is a really good way to shoot free throws.
I didn't catch that he was Rick Barry's kid, but now that I know it makes perfect sense that he shoots an underhand FT. And its perfect. Because Rick Barry.
about how that is the superior way to perform them from a physics standpoint. I know it looks kinda lame, but I'm surprised more guys don't do it when 1-2 extra points can so often be the difference in winning or losing. Especially big guys with sub 70% numbers. The downside of course is that it is another form of movement to have to perfect and as fatigue sets in, I think it would represent an increased level of difficulty to do more things correctly.
Interview response would be simple though. "Nothing looks worse than losing."
Guys don't like to do it because it makes them look like middle school girls in PE class.
But it's deadly effective.

I wish I could get my middle school girls team to do it. No takers. Peer pressure and all they don't want to look unusual.
March 25th, 2017 at 12:33 PM ^
Wow, even the middle school girls won't do it.
You need to show them the video of Barry sinking like 100 in a row.
"as fatigue sets in, I think it would represent an increased level of difficulty to do more things correctly."
I would think fatigue would affect this motion less than raising the arms and elbows in the normal manner and have fewer variables, thus decreasing the level of difficulty.
March 25th, 2017 at 12:04 PM ^
Yeah, it seems like it would be a more relaxed position for your arms and the motion is more fluid. Shooting overhand requires your muscles to tense up more. Logically, there would seem to be more potential for things to go awry in an overhand motion.
One of the challenges of shooting free throws is that you have to compose yourself in a short amount of time after all that hard sprinting/cutting, and shoot a 15-foot set shot. As the game goes on and fatigue starts to set in, having your arms in a relaxed position would seem advantageous.

I think some terrible NBA free-throw shooter was experimenting with underhand shots. It sounds like the consensus is 1) it's a better way to shoot free throws, and 2) no one wants to do it because they think they look ridiculous.
March 25th, 2017 at 10:33 AM ^
It gets suggested to Andre Drummond (a career 38% FT shooter) regularly, but he always refuses.
March 25th, 2017 at 11:32 AM ^
Which is hilarious. Guys are always like, "winning is the most important thing" but when presented with something that will significantly increase their chances, they're like, "nah, I don't want to look like a dork". Further, Drummond is costing himself millions of dollars per year becuase he wants to look cool.
There was a good episode of This American Life that talked with Barry about trying to convince someone (I think Shaq) to shoot free throws underhanded.
Of course, they ruined the episode by telling Malcolm Gladwell's story about trying to convince NFL teams that first round draft picks were no better than later picks.
The moral I took from the episode is that sometimes people do what you insist is a good idea because they care about their image. And other times, they don't do what you insist is a good idea because you're an idiot and it's a terrible idea.
It's not like running around in colored shorts and tank tops, which is what a basketball uni is, doesn't look ridiculous.
You are already part way there. Might as well go all in.

Communist free throws.
has been eclipsed for best game of the tourney. That was crazy and actually a pretty well played game before the buzzer beaters.
Hayes is a cool dude. He deserves better.
Yeah, like Barry White in his current state.
If Hayes was willing to do that underhand free throw thing, Wisconsin would be in the Elite Eight where they match up pretty well with South Carolina because they are methodical and disciplined.
March 25th, 2017 at 10:46 AM ^
He should give underhand FTs a try.

Wisconsin was incredibly lucky to get to overtime, then got incredibly unlucky at the end.
In regulation, Florrida turned the ball over with a 3 point lead, enabling the 3 (why didn't they foul?).
In OT, somehow the Wisky guy got blocked when he had a wide-open dunk, and for some reason Wisconsin had a forward (Hayes?) on Florida's pg at the end.
Blew right by him and hit a prayer at the buzzer.
I hate to see 3 SEC teams left and the B1G eliminated.
