Zoltan Mesko: Intergalactic Pigskin Overlord

Submitted by jaggs on

Saw this article by Andy Staples regarding Schiano's proposal to get rid of the kickoff.

The kickoff lovers also probably won't consider the potentially wild field-position swings that could come from punts out of bounds. Even Intergalactic Pigskin Overlord/private equity firm intern Zoltan Mesko, a great directional punter at Michigan who now plays for the New England Patriots, would struggle to consistently pin opponents deep with unreturnable kicks at that distance. Punts from a team's own 30 typically get returned, or the receiving team gets great field position from a kick out of bounds.

The rest of the article is an interesting read, though I don't know how likely the proposal is. Sadly, it will take someone getting killed before a change like this will happen.

I know this thread is mostly about Zoltan and I agree he is awesome  but I don't like the rule change.  There would be so much more scoring if the average drive was starting at like the 40 instead of the 20 and having a young punter could easily be the death of a team even if they are better.  Football already has too many rules protecting the offense, they don't need a field position advantage to go with it.
