Zettel reaffirms commitment per Pennlive

I know, I know, he's not coming, but I'm holding out just a little bit of unrealistic hope that he decides on a last-minute switch (I know, I know).  I came across this and I'm only posting it because it stated Hoke has been after him. These are the only tidbits about him, but here's the link:

New Michigan coach Brady Hoke is pursuing PSU verbal Anthony Zettel, a 6-4, 255-pounder from Michigan who commited to the Lions in late December. Zettel, who is a defensive line prospect, told Sean Fitz of Lions247.com, a Penn State football recruiting website, he will be wearing the Blue and White. “Michigan is after him but when I talked to [Zettel] recently he was adamant about coming to Penn State,” Fitz said.

I would have liked to see him at M, but at the end of the day, the kid is making a life decision, and it has to be one that he is happy with.

But, when people talk about whether or not DB's time frame for the CC affected recruiting, in my opinion this is one player to whom we can point as a concrete example.  He was leaning blue, and had we gotten Hoke on board since December, we could have had this 4* playing for M, not a direct rival.

Oh, well.  Best of luck to him, and I hope that he is on the losing side of the rivalry for the next 4 years.

While I would have liked to have him there are a ton of d-line prospects next year that we should be able to pursue especially in Ohio where Hoke has made a priority

From what i've been told there actually is a chance. This recruitment is a bit more complicated than the simple coach-commit relationship. There are multiple people involved, all with various motives. And, as a a result, Michigan isn't completely out of it.

I can almost understand Fisher going to Oregon, but Zettel to Penn State?  That would be like accepting a job in the Egyptian Ministry of Interior today.  Pretty good chance that there will be a major shake-up coming soon....

indicated he simply liked Penn State a lot. I didn't get the sense he committed to them simply because they were a safety valve.

It's certainly disappointing, but given how many visits he'd taken formally and informally to UM, how much he knew about us, and still didn't commit, it was no surprise to me he went elsewhere. That's going to happen in recruiting—we get guys all the time who state that they just love AA, the campus, UM, the program, etc., so we shouldn't be surprised when the committment is on the other foot, so to speak.
