It's not pleasant to hear this news on AZ today but there's a lot of scenarios to play out before the official signing day. In the end I believe we'll be surprised at how well things end up for us in this year's class. If he's not feeling it we wish him the best. But officially, it's not over yet!

This entire situation and program is a complete mess.  UM used to be a football factory and now we get excited about a 3 star recruit (I know stars mean little).  However, this is the type of athlete that RR and staff recruit and we better get used to it.

I don't know, it  might be time to move on.  I think it is a no win situation for Michigan.  Fire RR and have the worst recruiting class in the history of the program or keep RR and lose out on a few elite players and add more fuel to the fire.     Either way and people will bitch.

Worst class in history?    On the contrary.... the lifelong M fan recruits will decommit from other places, and everyone will want to join the Michigan of old.  Why is this so hard to see? If Harbaugh comes....   count on Zettel, DePriest, maybe Lawrence Thomas.  Who else were lifelong maize and blue???

People should stop and consider that perhaps a coaching change might be good for recruiting for this class. Especially for defense.  Who really knows what the effect would be?

After all, isn't it Rodriguez' recruiting and development program to date at least partially to blame for the state of the defense?  Assuming that more of him recruiting will improve things is little more than a hope.

Whether or not we'll ever all agree on here that it is time bring in a new coach, the situation points to it happening. Folks should just cool it if there is a change and remember that whoever is brought in is no amateur. He'll have his own list of players and he might be able to turn guys that had previously not wanted to come to Michigan.

The perception that we're getting poorer recruting classes under RR than we got under Carr is delusional. It just isn't true. Our classes were always made up of mostly three star guys, just like nearly every other schools class every year. What will people say if RR is retained and Kris Frost and Dee Hart both sign LOI and have received fifth stars from Rivals, because Rivals already have Hart as the highest rated four star and they write half of their articles about Frost?

And you've already stated that it doesn't matter, so I don't understand why you made the post. But, just to emphasize the irrelevance of the star system, I would sure hate having three star prospects Ryan Kerrigan, and JJ Watt, and Mike Hart, and Sam Bradford on my team. They surely aren't good enough.

This is disturbing. We have been hearing for quite some time that the PSU coaching staff is in disarray and that there is a huge power vacuum.  The team basically floundered this year until by a stroke of luck they decided to start McGroin, and even then it still was not beautiful.  To top it off, the day before he commits there is a rumor circulating (for the umpteenth time) that JoePa will need to retire at the end of this season for health reasons.  Disturbing indeed, although I too am happy he did not choose Sparty.  My dipshit co-worker Sparty fans who don't follow recruiting might nonetheless have seen a Freep blurb that lifelong Blue fan Zettel went green, and made yet another comment about their inevitable ascendancy.

Future Michigan Men who are clearly committed to wearing the winged helmet:

B. Beyer, G. Brown, D. Crawford, J. Fisher, D. Hart, J. Hayes, D. Hollowell, K. Jones, J. Miller, T. Posado, C. Rock.

And a special shout out to those who committed in recent weeks despite this other nonsense: B. Countess, D. Morgan, M. Goudis.

Go Blue.

(Note to the haters: yeah, I know some are looking around, but they're still committed, so they get the love.)

Not sure if this warrants a separate thread - (to err on the side of caution I'll ask here)

I saw his commitment to Texas as a Soft Verbal - do we have any chance with him? Could use a solid OL like him.

I agree. Nothing is official until February. RR snaked Dorsey at the last minute last yr (yes i know it didnt work out but not the point) so theres no reason why it cant happen with AZ. Might be a long shot, but if RR is back in '11 it is very possible.

Can future Big Ten Calss Ranking include a breakdown of Stanford recruits? Probably will be mute since this is a so called dead period and our coaches fate will likely be determined before anymore updates. It just makes me sick to read these posts and sense things slipping away while the AD sits up in his office 'evaluating.' I mean sheesh, if it's Harbaugh, make it official.

I'm a glass half full kinda guy. I hate that the consensus is pretty much Coach Rod out, but Our D Line needs seeerious depth. Not gonna get excited about anymore youth in the secondary than there already is. But maybe seeing some top notch commits in the front 7 will help me enjoy the bowl game and ignore the sour feeling that the spread will likely be gone next season even though the NC game has featured at least one spread team in each of the last 6 year (both this year) and our's is just starting to look good. Gosh the more I write, the more I hate Dave Brandon!

how AZ would be used at UM vs PSU? There was a comment on an earlier thread referring to an alleged statement by one of Zettel's HS coaches that PSU would be better suited to AZ's talents on defense, but there was no explanation in detail. In addition, Zettel apparently made a statement during or after his announcement that he thought that PSU coaches would push him more effectively to the next level.

Does all of this have to do with our defensive scheme and how it uses DL (essentially what the coach is alleged to have said), or is Zettel's comment about pushing him to the next level simply a reflection that he doesn't like our current defensive coaches on a personal level?

If yes, does Zettel's decision mean that he thinks RR is coming back? As others have pointed out, if his problem was solely with RR and his staff, why wouldn't he have waited just four more days?

Maybe this all came down to Zettel just liking everything about PSU—the campus, the location, the academics, the stadium, etc. etc.—better than Michigan. It does happen.

We should have had the inside track for this guy, but we will probably continue to lose more than our customary share of blue chips until we win consistently again. There is no quick fix.

17 or 18 year olds change minds so frequently.  But cant understand the reasoning behind this.  Way to take full advantage of witnessing numerous practices, games, Big Chill.  Grow up a UM fan only to go to school to PSU.  Boourns but it is what it is.  Looking forward to seeing Zettel in psu colours and if his potential can be reached there.
