Sam mentioned this morning that Barnett and Pike played on the same 7on7 team last summer. He said Michigan is in the hunt and having Barnett on our side will help, but there is a long way to go to land Pike. I agree with you that every little bit helps.
Sam also mentioned that UM is looking real good with a couple of TE's that participated in the camp this weekend (sorry, can't remember the names - one's from FH Harrison though). So we got that going for us...which is niiiice.

Among them: Arnett's "Night of 1,000 Commitments" is to be taken as completely benign, and utterly hilarious. If we're going to follow recruiting, the recruits get to make fun of us for it. When it is executed that brilliantly, the man deserves praise, not adult tsk-ing.
This is because awesome use of the Internet should be encouraged in all athletes at all times. What if we gave Cone shit for his rapping? What if we jumped on Zoltan as an attention whore when he space-punted Saturn?
Arnett turned the camera on us the night that the camera was on him. Any shit talking about this incident should therefore be prefaced with "I am not as intelligent or funny as DeAnthony Arnett" unless you actually are more intelligent or funny than Arnett, in which case, dude, if you can make me laugh that hard again, then POST THAT SHIT!

There are times when something's an IMO, and times when something's an IMHO. However when there is a direct reflection on a rooting interest it stops being an opinion and becomes...something...more, greater, luminary even.
We hold these truths to be self-evident:
- That recruiting, and following recruiting, are inherently scuzzy things that we engage in aware of their scuzziness.
- That holding college and high school athletes to a higher standard is hypocritical of people who were never perfect citizens at that age.
- Satire is to be generally encouraged.
- Fans who don't get satire or have a sense of humor about these kinds of things are generally embarrassing for a fanbase that goes around acting like we're smarter than Amurrrica.
I've been pretty tongue in cheek about this, but I should be clear that in cases like this, I would prefer that Arnett's thing not be trashed on this site by anyone. Enough people complain about the MLivening of the board as this site has grown more popular, and I've been on the front lines of asking people to be cooler to the new kids. As MGoBlog has become the No. 1 site for M fans, we've garnered an entire new audience who are here for that fact, whereas the calling card of this blog is that it's for intellectuals who appreciate a good tongue in a cheek.
Personally, I've found the Arnett Test is as good as any at rooting out those who started accounts because this is where the Michigan Talk is at (as opposed to because they appreciate the content). If you think Arnett is a douchebag only based on the Night of a Million Commitments, I can respect that it's your opinion, but opinions are not made equal. If you're the kind of person who takes that kind of thing personally, or has ever been offended by South Park, or who thinks satire is just a bunch of pretentious assholes making fun of people, then that is absolutely fine, but understand this blog isn't for that demographic. I'm not saying you have to think the Night of a Million Commitments is funny to read here or comment here, just that this blog is written only for the kind of people who think that sort of thing is awesome.
