Zeke Pike commits to Auburn.

US Army All-American, Dixie Heights (KY) QB Zeke Pike commits to #Auburn.

Not surprising but sucks nonetheless.

So how we doing with Gunner Kiel? Maty Mauk? Shane Morris?

I don't buy in to the depth issue in this case. Everywhere you go, a QB is going to have to compete for a spot. And it isn't like Auburn doesn't have Qbs either. They apparently sucked in spring practice but they're bringing in Kiehl Frazier (a consensus top 100 guy who we also offered). He's closer in classes to Pike then DG is. Just saying that the PT argument doesn't really hold up IMO. If you're a QB and you want to go to a top school, you'll have to compete for playing time, no matter what the situation is.

It sucks but that's recruiting for you. Good luck to Pike, no matter what happens to Auburn. Bring on the next elite QB, whether it be Kiel or Mauk or whoever. It's a long time until next February and this isn't the first recruit that we may lose out on (I say it this way because he could end up changing his mind).

I find it baffling that a kid can have Michigan and Auburn as his final two.  They're drastically different schools and it just seems like if you settle on Auburn you may not have been a great fit at Michigan anyway.  I'm sure there are plenty of recruits about whom that's not true, but that's my gut reaction.  Hopefully we'll get a top guy who fully appreciates what UM has to offer and wouldn't dream of going to the dirtiest of dirty SEC schools.

This decision does cause me to look at the chucking the ball at 7on7 official a little more critically now....could it be a character issue? At any rate, why do we need to wish a kid well who doesn't want to play for Michigan? I'd rather just be indifferent about them.

I hate Auburn first Kris Frost, now Zeke. And Rivals has an article about Jordan Diamond saying how much he likes Auburn now too.  In the long run our QB situation looks good for the next 4 years.  I'm more bummed out on some of the guys he could of brought to Michigan with him

I hate to point out the obvious here being new and all but everything i have read says that both Mauk and Kiel are early ND leans. I realize the thought process might be that if one commits to ND before the other then whoevers left goes to UM or somewhere else. Also Mauk looks like he might fit at Mizzou due to him being in that 5 wide set in HS. So, if thats the case why worry about QB this year. Why not go and get a bunch of really good offensive lineman for DR/DG to stand behind the next couple of years and worry about the QB next year i.e. Shane Morris. Also, a couple of big DTs wouldnt hurt either...never does GO BLUE!

Edit: Mauk for those who dont know also has Mizzou as one of the schools he is considering, just sayin.

I don't really care. If Devin gets his medical redshirt, then they'd only be one year appart. Rather get a solid guy this year for depth and the kid from Warren next year.

Worst Case:  Pike stays with Auburn and I wish the kid the best of luck.

Best Case:  Auburn gets hammered for violations as NCAA digs up major dirt.  Pike wises up and decides to go back to his original favorite.  I can dream, can't I?

Tough to understand the logic behind this kid's choice.   With Auburn getting Frazier, a 5 star system-fitting QB last year, when does this kid think he's gonna play? Not to mention the decent chance that sanctions are coming their way.  Yeah we have Devin but he's no sure thing especially with the redshirt situation.  The timeline is also puzzling.  What happened to end of summer?  Was Auburn really that amazing?? Ah the power of green...

to auburn (per his comment), I will have to start questioning God's advice between this and telling the Vest to stay quiet. Maybe there is some static on the line.....

Personally, I wasn't too big on Zeke.  Just not a warm fuzzy over him.  Apparently the coaches liked him, but I watched the film close, and I thought Appleby looked much better.

Good luck to him, but I think we'll do better.

was a quote from the Auburn WR coach immediately after Pike committed. Pike offered this quote to illustrate the firmness of his commitment to Auburn. Sounds disturbingly similar to Tom Cruise's situation in "The Firm."

"A young quarterback joins a prestigous college football program only to discover that it has a sinister dark side."

I'm an ESPN Insider, so a post in rumors regarding Pike's commitment caught my eye.  Direct quote:

"Frazier was handpicked by offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who has known the Springdale, Ark., product since he was in the eighth grade. (Frazier ran Malzahn's offense in high school.) He's a dual-threat talent who seems to be the perfect fit for Malzahn's system."

Okay, if I'm Pike, just reading those words should give me second thoughts about my commitment (granted, this wasn't published until after he committed).  I'd be very concerned about Frazier's seemingly preferred status.  I know Pike thinks he can compete, but give Frazier a year at redshirt in a system he already knows perfectly, and there might not be much room for competition.  Hopefully he'll rethink his decision at some point this year (NCAA sanctions would be great anytime now).

At least at UM he knows that they're trying to switch to a pro-style offense and, should he prove himself more capable of running one than Gardner (which is possible if we're talking exclusively pro-style) he'd have a shot at starting.  I honestly think his odds would be better here, but I'm also biased.

Well, I completed  the dreaded talk with my 5 year old son Zeke and told him Zeke Pike is not going to Michigan.  He told me it will be OK and that I was actually more upset than him.

I don't know how much of a loss this is for us...just surprised he's going there with everything I've heard about Frazier.  They must have one hell of a sales pitch at Auburn...or something.

Its not crucial that this class have a quaterback.  hopefully after this season we will have more momentum recruiting if we perform well.  load up on D line and oline.  Mauk looks like a system qb or his comp was poor.  hes never pressured in the vids i see.  meh.  Zeke is too bad you think you can run in college cuz that spread at Auburn is not going to work out that well for ya.  Gunner, forget about that one.  aint happening.  if we cant get the big dawgs dont bother. unless hes the ultimate sleeper.  Definetly dont take a QB just to take a QB.  GO BLUE
