True, but I hate it more when starters are out for 8 weeks 8 hours before the season starts.

I was better with the rest, but prior to it, I played and practiced with it for a bit, and it hurt to walk, let alone hit and run and sit up straight.
Get well soon, #21!

Gosh fucking damn it.
This is, what, the third year in a row that a guy is banged up before/heading into the season?
Get well quicker than expected, Zak.

yes, everyone heals differently. I was more explaining that a 6-8 week "back procedure" can only be one thing, a micro-discectomy. It's such a benign procedure that they don't even need jackasses like me in the room to support it. This should not be a big deal for anyone, he should be fine for the season if everything goes to plan.

3 weeks no BLT (bending, lifting, twisting). Risk of repeat herniation in the future about 15%. If no BLT for 16 weeks, repeat risk decreases to approximately 5-7%. With the pounding that BB payers take, those numbers may be a bit worse for Irvin.
That may be why McGary was held out of the remainder of a season that was already lost, to allow for optimal recovery for the next season (which eventually went up in smoke).

Is this a different procedure than McGary got a few years back?
September 9th, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
Has to be. I don't know what McGary's operation was but it kept him out the last 3.5 months of the season. This doesn't sound anywhere near that serious.

I think if we have more injury trouble than is normal this season, that question will start to be asked much more loudly. For now, I'm still willing to chalk it up to coincidence.

also career ending hip surgery for Ben Cronin.

Another dong punch for JB and the MBB team.

Give me a break. He might not even miss a single game.

Possibly, but all the off-season work outs and improvements are out the window.

Wishing Irvin a speedy recovery - back injuries are definitely something you want to be proactive about, at least in my experience.
Hopefully, he's back in time to contribute to part of the OOC schedule, if that timeline holds anyway. Definitely looking forward to another season of Irvin.

They lost Sarah Driesbach for most of last year..BUT she did get a medical redshirt and will be back this year giving us 2 All-American pitchers..(I think Dreisbach was a AA her fresh or soph) year...We are LOADED next season and Im guessing they will be the preseason #1

For most people, surgery is only "minor" when it happens to someone else.

or not too long afterwards, I hear U-M has good doctoring, he should be fine, calm down folks.

Just something I've always wondered...when scholarship athletes require surgery, is the university allowed to pay for this,or do the families have to pay out of pocket?
I guess I always assumed the athletes get the best care possible with trainers, rehab, etc, but I always wondered about the financial aspect. Is UofM allowed to help with the cost?

But I feel a lot better about this team being able to overcome injuries than last year's team.
