That's what he says
things go poorly
That's what he says
The reasoning is that someone who says stupid things on Twitter does so because he's a head case, making it more likely he'll do other stupid things that land him in jail.
That's a logical leap of epic proportions. Congrats.
My roommates and I have been laughing at these tweets for months; however, as it became clear that they werent just jokes occasionally.... you wonder how intelligent he really his...
Im not saying he's going to fail in life, but i'd rather have just about anybody else on our recruiting board right now.
I myself have.
I think his less than stellar performance in the Army All-American Bowl has more to do with this than any of those tweets. Also Ace Williams = AssHat
Not a Michigan man.
I am not part of twitter or do I follow anyone on twitter, but do other recruits, knowing they are being recruited nationally, put stuff like this on their twitter pages. This is just plain dumb and classless to me.
Lol, I hope the Domers get him. He'll fit right in with that fanbase.
but at the same time: How does someone not tell the kid how incredibly dumb he sounds?
These are the type of things you end up regretting later in life.
I doubt this simply because of the source but the tweets themselves are real. I know alot of 18 year olds have sex and girls on the brain but those are beyond ridiculous.... its isn't just a lewd tweet are 2..... its basically all he has to say on a public forum such as twitter. Sad really.
Is anyone else getting kind of sick for the 18 year old kid defense being thrown around for everything recruits do? I realize that kids that age arent making the best decisions they will ever make but at some point they have to be responsible for their actions/what they say.
I'm just glad Twitter did not exist when I was 18 years old. Even though I was not a star athlete, I still probably would have tweeted some stupid stuff and effed myself up somehow.
It's unfortunate, because he seems like a very good prospect and this type of stuff really is not uncommon among boys of that age. But a coach can't very well declare that he's going to recruit "high character kids" and then turn a blind eye to this stuff.
(played under urban at flo rida)
Oh man, Will Hill may be the King of idiotic tweets.
Will Hill validates the existence of twitter
Seems like taking about girls and their sexual organs is all this guy cares about when it comes to Twitter. What he has to say about that topic isn't funny, I get he's 18 but there's no reason to talk like that on a open forum for the world to read. It'a one thing to talk to your buddies like that, but he just cost himself a scholarship at one prestigious school, I know other schools wont or don't care, but this is the type of player I like to see avoided. Good call coaching staff. I also like the one Tweet where a person with Michigan fan handle starts chirping him about committing to ND, yet another reason I don't follow athletes on Twitter.
David Terrell would never have had a chance in this new world
Oh man... It was great living in West Quad in the late 90s.
I wonder if this was also part of problem with Standifer's recruitment. I don't remember seeing anything to this extent but there were certain tweets that made me question his character.
He is just being a kid, a disrespectful one but a kid nonetheless. Yuri probably needs a better role model, he makes his dad seem like a jackass!
No, he's not "just being a disrespectful" kid. He has character issues.
He is a kid who is just running his mouth, figuratively speaking! He not out here selling drugs, raping women or knocking people over the head. He is a young adult with a dirty mouth no worse than Kevin Hart who gets paid to say the type of things Yuri is saying. Saying he has character issues is a bit harsh I would say he is immature! Now Demar Dorsey on the other hand I would say had character issues!
At this point are there any recruits we look to be in good shape with other than Garnett? Reeves very well may go to ohio depending on how he likes his visit
even if no one else says something to him you would think his high school coach would. I mean he not follow him on Twitter, but he knows his personality and likely hears things from other students/ players. I coach hs football and I know I would have at least spoken to him about what I was hearing. not start, especially in 2012.
He's a moron. 17 and 18 year old men and women (maybe they aren't quite considered men and women but should be damn close) don't do this if they have half a brain. If you're sticking up for this, would YOU write this to the world?! Conversation amongst friends is one thing, Lord knows my thoughts and discussions in life ain't pretty, but this goes beyond unpretty and veers into severe disrespect and lewd.
But I'll just say that I'm fine with Hoke looking elsewhere. The 18 year old excuse doesn't cut it. Character and discretion are part of what coaches recruit for, beyond on the field skills.
Wow, a generation raised on a sewer culture ends up regurgitating what they see. Color me surprised. He's an 18 year old kid trying to be Mr. Ball So Hard U dude (thanks T-Sizzle and douche-king Kenny Mayne) that he makes himself look silly - question - where the hell are his parents?
I was surprised no one here mentioned - yet - that he makes fun of his dad purposefully splashing a jewish woman. I expect the kid to be a horndog - and yeah, would love to see him interviewed by Miss Liberty University Samantha Steele - but to go racial with some older woman, c'mon son - that won't fly, have some respect for people.
Another case of telling a guy he needs to reform to be a Michigan Man, but go do it somewhere else, we don't want you go through the growth process here.
He is not "a generation" he is one guy. Our other recruits are from from his "generation" do not do this. Blaming this on his "generation" his wrthless handwaving.
Whether or not you think this is a big deal, it is reflective of this individual.
I had to look up Ball So Hard University in order to make sure you weren't off your meds (at first, the inclusion of Kenny Mayne here was a headscratcher.)
But now that I have, I don't see much connection at all between Terrell Suggs goofing around in a completely non-offensive manner in his SNF introduction and what Wright was tweeting. Can you explain what links those two? While you're at it, you can try to provide a definition of 'sewer culture.'
Smoking weed tweet was probably the most damning to the coaches.
That is some misogynistic stuff which could manifest itself in some pretty terrible ways. These kids are going to be exposed to and have access to a lot more and will have to take on a lot of responsibility once they get on campus. You wanna make sure they can handle it.
So I'm OK with using twitter to filter out trouble during the recruiting process, before they pull a Kellen Jones.
Im glad the coaches cooled on him. I wanted Yuri in this class bad but after his performance in the AA game and these tweets, Im happy he wont be a wolverine.
Glad we're not recruiting him anymore.
Stuff about getting laid, fine whatever. Not very classy, but probably 1/3 of the internet is porn of some degree anyways.
The race thing is definitely over the top though
He seems more suited for MSU or Urban Liar
The kid has the common sense of a pinecone.
So we are in the business of not recruiting highly talented, grade qualified kids at positions of need because of a few of their tweets now?
Damn. This is just stupid. This kid is a kid. I know I grew up quite a bit in college, you know, because that is what college is all about.
Were you on a full ride scholarship, in the limelight on a daily basis with microphones thrust in your face? If not, you were not really a risk and your maturation was allowed to happen in private. Do you think Yuri's would be?
and Nothing else? my impression of him was..What a JERK..the LAST thing we need is as Terrell Pryor type athlete and he has that written ALL OVER HIM based up those tweets..He sounds like a gansta thug wanna be....he belongs at OSU
So what you're saying is that Hoke should have no standards for a player that represents the University as long as that player plays a position of need? Sounds very SECish to me. Maybe Hoke just doesn't want a bunch of guys on his team that he has to worry about. I'm sure that takes a toll on a coach. Yes, kids are kids, but Wright seems to show a pattern of lack of judgement.
Dude he is a 17 year old kid... I would not have been ok in this new world of twitter.
This is just dumb. It's a fucking tweet.
Also, there are reasons why we have "captains" who do the talking in front of the mic.
I teach in a high school coach football, I am around 17 and 18 year old kids all day, every day...even in lockerrooms. I rarely hear talk that out in the open and vulger. Really, this is a snap shot of Yuri's character, and it isn't good. My question is, as others have mentioned, where are his parents/mentors? Doesn't this kid have anyone in his life that loves him and cares enough for him to tell him he is an idiot and is destroying his reputation? I think Hoke did the right thing FOR this kid, not TO him. Hopefully he is able to examine his life and make more appropriate choices in the future.
that they want to recruit kids with high character and who know what being accountable means.
Based on his tweets alone, we can easily deduce that Yuri does not possess those traits.
I just don't think you can base the character of a kid based on a few random tweets. You capture 5 tweets you capture 5 independent and extrememly fleeting thoughts. Hell, I am guessing MLK got horny too from time to time. I mean jeeeeeeze is this what it's come too?
I said waaaay worse than this in high school. I am pretty sure my major focus in life in high school was chasing tail. Did I say high school? I meant now too. Hell the only reason I don't live under a bridge and eat Little Debbies for every meal is because trolls don't get laid. This kid is/was probably a lot like me and all of us in high school... if we're being honest.
much the girl stuff, more the weed stuff. Doesn't look good either way, but - start referencing drugs in your tweets - doesn't exactly impress the coaches. But, the good news is - the SEC won't care.
