Your worst experience at The Big House/a tailgate?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

I've been watching videos of fans getting into fights at stadiums today for some reason and it gave me this thread idea?

Ever see anything like that? Or have an experience with another fan that was bad? Or during the Down in Front Era with someone yelling it at you? Basically this is a stories thread. A little Monday night entertainment.

All the while it was sleeting. My friend’s dad was visiting from Florida - dude left before kickoff. Not kidding. Me and my buddies were all pumping each other up and screaming that we would never leave no matter what. About half way through the 3rd quarter, one of buddies says “I’m out of here”. The other 10 of us just nod and walk out, nobody said a word the whole walk back. That was a crazy game too - Michigan drove down to the red zone like 8 times and scored 5 points. I barely remember Purdue getting past their own 30 yard line.

It was a Pure Michigan moment before that was even a tourism campaign.

I stayed until the end -  I dressed for the tailgate, and as a result, almost froze to death in the fourth quarter. I walked back to my car with what energy I had left and then managed to get to a friend's apartment where I wrapped myself in a blanket and crashed.

The only game I ever left early was Utah 2014.  The skies opened up, along with thunder and lightning.  They told us to "seek shelter."  We got absolutely drenched walking to the car, and as we were losing handily I refused to go back in, must to the dismay of my spouse. Later, I heard players describe how when the game resumed the stadium was empty and most of the fans that were there were Utah fans.  I felt kinda bad about that.

I went to Harbaugh's first game at Utah and have to say their fans are ridiculously nice and friendly.  The harshest 'trash talk' we heard was from some guy yelling at Harbaugh for benching Alex Smith in favor of Kaepernick ...who of course lead the Niners to the SuperBowl.

During halftime while heading to the food trucks that they pull into the stadium, a woman blocked my way like happens sometimes ("did you want to dance?") but was intentionally doing it to in order to stop me so she could Thank me for coming to the game and Wish me luck and to have a great time!

A buddy and I stayed to the last whistle thanks to a boda bag of SoCo and coke. It was surreal at points. Either fog or flurries, or both were so thick you couldn’t see a foot in front of you. I’m a 96er myself as well. Of course the upside you could sit anywhere you pleased - even the ushers weren’t dumb enough to stick around.

I thought that game was FUN.  5-0

By the end of the game I was sitting closer to the field that I ever have & sipping my cold chocolate.

I was also nervous about that game going in, as Alstott seemed to be MADE for that weather.

When IT happened, I temporarily lost my faith in sports.  I remember specifically asking myself "what kind of an idiot would pay money to go through that?" and told myself I was done going to Michigan football games.  While that wasn't true, it has been very difficult to shell out any money... Since, I've only gone to games where I've been offered a free ticket.

My worst moment ever as a sports fan, by far. Because of who it was, it's five times worse than Appalachian State. And in light of recent revelations of the cultural rot in their athletic department, it is all the worse. I have zero respect for MSU sports anymore and even if we blow them out by 30 this fall it will never remove that atrocity of 2015. Horrible. Still can't watch a replay.

The blocked punt. Was tailgating at the golf course. Had to listen to all the msu fans. And then the traffic.... Took 2 hours to get out of the course. Then another 2 hours to get out of the city.

Mostly good experiences, but ND fans are rude as hell and a drunk ND female smacked me in the face for literally no reason. This happened just inside the stadium while walking around before a game. Down in front people were out of hand in the Hoke era, they’re not as bad now. The punt against Msu was awful because nobody would move so you were stuck standing there wanting to punch every Msu fan in the face.

I've noted this here before and it's odd.

ND is my least favorite football school. Most fans ND fans I meet, though (socially / professionally / both) are very nice people. They remind me of the refined Michigan fans.

For some reason I never meet the bad ND fans. I'm sure they exist.

Fair enough. The office is a less hostile environment than the stadium. I was at both UTL games and one ND game in the Lloyd era. Again, I thought their fans were a good bunch in the aggregate. I'm sure I'd see worse in South Bend, just as Michigan's townie crew is worse than its "travel team."

Notre Dame fans are not bad.

I was at the 2014 shuthout Hoke game in South Bend and they could've been way worse to us. I only imagine if that had been in Columbus or East Lansing.

Harbaugh's first year, my senior year. In the student section for OSU, to my right is a Michigan girl on crutches, behind us are 3 OSU fans (what looks like a dad and 2 college/high school aged sons). Both the kids are trashed and whenever they are walking in and out of their seats they push the people in the row in front of them (my row) to get them to fall off the benches. They do it all through the first half, people get pissed but then around half time they do it to the girl on crutches. Once that happens the entire crowd is blowing up at the dad and kids before secuirty steps in to make sure they survive the day. The kids and dad disappear for a quarter and come back at the start of the 4th, a little more sober and a lot more quiet.

Welcome week sophomore year. As soon I st down in seat I got the spins. Almost made it to gate before I puked all over myself. Couple cops approached me but I told them I was leaving and they let me go. Ended up getting lost in the baseball complex on my way back. Somehow got inside the the stadium. Took me a long time to figure my way out of that maze.
