Your thoughts on the rest of the Big Ten after week 1

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
Kind of an extension of the front page post. I'm not personally ready to write off the Suckeye even if USC rolls them. They seem to do this "nearly losing to a non-conf nobody but pulling it out at the last second" b.s. every year. BUT, Iowa!?!?!?!?! WTF???? Feeling very good there. On the other side of the ledger, I personally assumed Purdue, which really wasn't much last year, was going to fall through the floor after losing their heir-apparent at QB this summer. They surprised me.

I think trying to read the tea leaves after the opening week of the college football season, is a bit like trying to forecast the 2016 Presidential election. In looking at Michigan's win and Ohio State's close call, I think we shood heed the immortal words of the Wolf, from Pulp Fiction: "Let's not start sucking each other's dicks just yet." As for the rest of the Big Ten, one game does not a season make. I mean, after the Horror, Michigan rattled off a pretty damn good Big Ten season until the Ohio State game. The bottom line is that it's a long, long season. Just my two cents.

OSU will rebound and they NEVER overlook the Michigan game. Iowa is in trouble, and I hope they stay that way until after we play them. Wisconsin seems to be starting slowly, but by the end of the season I'm sure they'll be back. That's always a tough road game. Illinois isn't looking good right now. If our offense can open up like Missouri's did, we got a chance. Can't say much about MSU. They whomped on a mediocre FCS team. Let's see how they do against CMU first. Purdue blew out a bad MAC team that still put up 31 points. I'm not worried about them. Penn State destroyed another bad MAC team. It's too early to tell with them. Minnesota barely beat a Syracuse team that seems to be better, but not by much. Since we don't play them, it's kind of a moot point.

1) Illinois is not this bad. Mizzou is an underrated team (I am from Missouri and I will have to say they lost a lot of good players, but they were overrated and their replacements are nearly as strong) and Benn was hurt from the beginning. Illinois also lost to Mizzou last year and turned in a solid season. 2) Iowa is likely headed for a bad year. I wouldn't write them off completely - it could be motivation for the rest of the year, but their line looks beat and their RB siuation is dreadful. 3) OSU is overrated but still a solid team. Probably not a top 10 year for them, but still top 25. 4) Penn State is the team to beat in the B10, hands down. Yes, their opponent was weak, but they looked very strong (Clark is a beast). Also, anyone notice the names of their WRs? Easily a 10 on the unintentional comedy scale. 5) MSU will be in the top half of the B10 for sure. Can't say much beyond that. They will likely win a game they shouldn't (ND?) but lose a game they should definitely win. All the others, in my opinion, were below us to start the season and no effort in particular made me think "wow, we need to watch out for these guys".

Michigan is looking unbeatable. Tate is already headed for first team AA. Tate is way ahead of Pryor, McCoy, Bradford, whoever

Illinois was by far the most disappointing B10 team IME. They have Juice Williams and Arrelious Benn. Yeah Benn was nicked up but they should have been able to stay closer to a Missouri less Maclin and Daniel team.

The only thing that would come close to making me as happy as seeing Michigan do well this year is watching the Suckeye crash and burn. Buckeyes aren't worth much but they are great roasted.

Every team is Beatable. OSU looked soft in the middle on both sides of the ball, and overmatched at CB and LB. Not enough playmakers on offense and Pryor still has a lot to learn as a QB, though he is a great athlete. I predicted 3 losses for them last week, and Im sticking to it. It is between PSU, Michigan for the Big Ten Title imo....
