Your reason(s) we beat UCONN?

Submitted by NateVolk on
I am going into full bore season opener prep starting this weekend. Thanks to this awesome site, I don't have to look far. I learned more Michigan footall in the last three weeks then in my prior two decades of being a fan. I felt like I was a good fan too. But no way. I am looking for tangible or intangible reasons we will win the opener. Please be as specific and Ron Jaworski film nerdy as you want; or not. Everything helps.

I don't know if things have changed, but according to Phil Steele's projected lineup for UConn (not that Phil Steele is always correct, mind you) UConn has 6 upperclassmen as projected starters on defense for 2010: 4 Seniors and 2 Juniors. And their corners are Sophomores, not Freshman.

I'm not sure where airviper is gettig his information from, though...

Because if we don't, this is going to be 3 losing seasons in a row, and I am incapable of dealing with thought of such a travesty.

Also because Rick Volk(any relation) is one of my all time fav Michigan players, although I never saw him play for M. I do remember him from the Baltimore Colts glorious victory in Super Bowl V

1.  RR owns UConn.

2.  Their two starting defensive ends are injured.  Defensive ends are key to slowing down the read option.

3.  Majority of starters returning on both offense and defense.

4.  More mature quarterbacks.

5.  Solid offensive and defensive lines.

6.  Continuity with defensive coordinator and a simplified defensive scheme.

7.  Depth for the first time in two years.

8.  Insane atmosphere with Brock Mealer and the whole rededication thing.

9.  Refer to 8.

10.  Flash Dilithium.

I think we win in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Rushing yards will determine the winner. The seams will be there for D-Rob and our backs.  We will be better this year on punt returns and I expect one to go to the house against UConn..Of course, all this means nothing if we turn the ball over a bunch, so I will be hoping thats not an issue.

1)  Denard's coming out party

2)  Gerg's LBs' coming out party

3)  PR/KR hold on to the damn ball

4)  Floyd/Rogers hold their own

them staying with our athletes.   They have....in my opinion...very few "really good" football players.   We have lots.   Maybe a lot more than most of us even realize.

I just honestly dont see it being all that close.

With their two starting DEs out I think we get Dilithium running the read option early and often with a lot of success. Which in turn, will make their secondary, which is as young as ours(!), even more vulnerable.

A comfortable 35-24 win for Blue!

So when their QB tries to dribble, it will bounce funny and we'll scoop 'n score 14 times.

UM 98, UConn 0.

(If he doesn't dribble, it's fucking travelling - Michigan ball 1st & 10)

Our new Mike backer, and Safety (both switched from offense) will help to shore up spots that we were horrible in the past two years. If we can get some solid play out of the LBs and DBs this year, it will go a long way in helping to stop the opposition. I really just hope they can stop the run this year. 92nd in the nation is embarassing even for a mid-major scholl, let alone UM.  Let's hope to see some good form tackling, and reduce the amount of missed arm tackles.
