Your Breakout Player Candidates?

Submitted by Jevy on
Boring day for me lounging around the house, and I haven't seen a topic like this that I remember. So I wanna know who do you think could end up being a starter and or a breakout player that not many people are talking about! My choice is Ben Gedeon, he may not start because of the depth at LB but I believe he is going to produce big time this year!

Drake Johnson.

Hw will be the main ball carrier by the start of the B1G schedule.  (If he can stay healthy.  Please Please.)

Freddy Canteen will be my pick. Seems like a very confident guy, and someone who can really seperate themselves from the mediocre pack of receivers.

Ruddock. I have a feeling he is going to put up decent numbers behind a solid line and RBs, and the DEF will keep them in the game. That is going to earn him a fifth round.

Alright, sorry to use you as an example because there's countless offenses now to date, but his name is spelled "Rudock". One "d". I'm actually shocked that Michigan fans all over the place are still misspelling his name months and months after the transfer. It's pretty simple.

I didn't catch the unusual spelling/pronounciation myself until about ten days ago.  I am actually shocked that you are "actually shocked" that most people continue to spell it the conventional way rather than the right way.  Once fans start hearing the name, the spelling will correct itself.  In the meantime, avoid shocks.

Besides the obvious Peppers pick (technically he hasn't "broken out" yet), I would go with:

OFFENSE

Isaac - makings of an Anthony Thomas kind of beast of size and speed

Braden and Kalis on OL - with Drevno coaching, these could be early NFL picks

Canteen - needed last year to get used to game speed, will be ideal slot man a la Avant

DEFENSE

Marshall - looks like he could be a real option at DE with size and speed, unless someone like FR Jones or Shelton show early promise

Thomas - super fast and could be good opposite Peppers at S

Mone - serious beast potential up the middle stuffing the run; what a tag team with Gary once he's on the DL next to him

I hope I'm wrong but I could see this playing out. Shane loses to Jake and decides to transfer at the end of fall camp so he has two years of eligibility somewhere else. It definitely benefits him for not having a redshirt year if he would decide to go somewhere else. He would still have a hell of a competition for the starting job next year with four people who will know the playbook as well as he does.

I will take the oft-maligned Shane Morris.  This year, he shows us why he was a five star recruit.  I am guessing last year left the proverbial "bad taste in his mouth."  Now he has a coach who can unlock his potential.  I know everyone things Rudock will win the job, but I'll pick Morris anyway.

I know a coach who have coached in the Catholic League and have seen Morris and Malzone as well as Rob Bolden.  He said that he was unimpressed by Bolden and Morris. He thought that Bolden and Morris were vastly overrated as a QB.  He didn't think both are worthy of a power 5 conference offer.

He said Malzone on the other hand is legit and can really throw the ball. He may not have the arm strength of Morris, but he makes all the throws that college coaches would requires him to do. He said the only thing that could hold him back is his size. He's 6' which is the minimum height at QB in order to be successful.

He said that Malzone is better than Morris right now but just need experience.

get healthy and stay healthy, Drake Harris has the tools to really do some damage to opposing secondaries.  He's my pick (please cooperate, Drake's hamstrings!).

Jake Rudock. This team has lots of raw talent, I think the OL will be much better and that we'll have a much stronger running game than in the past few years. But I think with the young offensive weapons on the roster, the big benefit is going to be for this guy. He was a solid qb at Iowa with less talent around him and lesser coaching. I think he explodes under Harbaugh and Michigan does as well this year.

I'm hoping Kugler is the clear #1 center so Glasgow can play a different position. He's probably our best OL.

The thing that excites me is that we have so many players with a ton of undeveloped potential at nearly every position that this team is a complete mystery. With this coaching staff and their ability to develop talent from that potential (as shown historically), this team has... Well... A lot of potential. I really do think that Michigan is the perfect sleeper team. May struggle early but I expect things to click more and more each game, and it should be fun to watch.

On offense I'm gunna go with Kyle Kalis and Khalid Hill. Hill was really starting to put it together before the ACL injury. On defense I see Gedeon, Marshall and Stribbling all taking that next step. Feeling relatively optimistic about this team.
