You Suck cheer

Submitted by UESWolverine on

Sorry if this is a repeat post - please delete if it is, but how do we eliminate the 'You Suck' cheer?! Am I the only one who cringes every time I hear it? It's really the only negative experience I have at our games.

especially in games where we were getting blown out. It seemed really odd that the one time we have a third down stop in a blowout loss we're telling the other team that they suck, even though we might be losing by a lot. Never really got that and always thought it was in poor taste regardless.

I do see how it goes with the whole "Michigan arrogance" thing but is it really necessary to keep doing it? Even Ace has called for fans to stop.

This topic has been discussed many times and becomes downvote city in a hurry, so I'll just say Go Blue and In Before Delete.

It's just fucking stupid. It's the goddamn Early Season Bart Simpson of cheers. 'See ya,' by contrast, is 18x more obscene, but it's original and funny. Dickhead first graders say 'you suck.' Using it as a chant is a vociferous declaration of being an unimaginative dickhead.

It's stupid and crude.

There are other aspects of modern society that are also stupid and crude, and it seems more and more accepted, if not considered acceptable.

Don't have a clue as to how to stop any of it.

Really? I think we live in the least crude society ever. Maybe if you just watch TV where they parade crude people as entertainment that we can all point at and be mad about. In real life, you're lambasted for saying anything even remotely crude. We live in the "watch your mouth" era.

Arrogant and/or crude is fine.  The problem is that it's not creative or funny.  Not to mention we are the ones who have been sucking for the last 10 years or so.

I do not remember it from '05 or from a few years earlier when I was in undergrad, but whatever - it's connected in my mind with the past decade of crappy football. And - the bigger issue - is that most non-students don't chant it. (The MMB apparently doesn't support it either, since it now plays two notes over the "You suck".). Do we want a chant that everyone can support or just a corner of the stadium?

I was an undergrad during the 2004-2007 seasons and feel like it became widespread at some point during that time. Before that, I had gone to a game my senior year of HS and don't remember it then.
