You know you love it - Spartan Schadendfreude

I'm not sure why, but you guys seem to love Spartan schadenfreude. So I give you this guy setting the record straight:
My friend Jason texted me during the CMU game, saying: “Ten bucks we lose this game.” That was based on his 20 years of being a Spartan fan.

It was fun... normally I root for ND vs. Sparty, but after all the blubber that Charlie spat out this week in the media...Im torn on who to pull for in that game...maybe a Tie would be best..

A tie would be the worst if it were possible. The whole point of that game being awesome is that somebody has to lose. Don't care who. But someone is going to walk off that field with their season expectations adjusted very, very seriously downward. The prize for the winner? Nothing, except relief in not being on the other side of the coin. I'm very much looking forward to it.

After one poor Michigan season and 1 victory in 7 years the Spartans turned into everything they had always claimed Michigan fans were: Arrogant Asses. They needed a swift kick in the nuts, hell, let's make that 3! One from ND this week and one from Michigan in 3 weeks. Finally the sports world is realigned.

Can we add on the road at Wisconsin the week before Michigan and on the road at Illinois the week after Michigan to that list? I'll go on the record now saying if State loses to Notre Dame this weekend it's gonna get ugly in East Lansing. Is it possible State could start off 1-5?

After Braylon went nuts and (almost) single-handedly beat Sparty, I emailed my cousin (a MSU alum and writer for a western Michigan newspaper). I asked him when he felt that the game "got away" from MSU. His reply? "At the opening kick-off". If that isn't 'doom & gloom', I don't know what is.

I would like ND to run the table the rest of the year. Especially against USC and the other golden frosh QB. You know ND is gonna shoot up the rankings if they're 11-1 and makes our win that much better. MSU losing to CMU totally tarnished a win over them rankings wise.

At the beginning of the season listening to ND fans talk about playing for the national championship and MSU fans speak like they have been winning for years and how they were taking over football in the state of Michigan, I am extremely happy with how only two games in both fan bases are relatively silent. It would be great if somehow both teams found a way to lose this weekend...

As Tate so aptly puts it: "...destroy" I'm sure he meant Sparty. I know he did. This is a great game for them to get their asses handed t them, because then IIRC it's up to Camp Randall, where hopefully the Bagders JUMP AROUND and kill them even more. Yes, I like that. Kill Sparty. Kill them twice; kill them thrice; kill them hard. I'm gonna say it everytime it comes up: They had been handed the mantel of State U of Michigan; it was perceived that they were overtaking UM. Now is The Time to quickly mash and bash their brains out on the sidewalk. Demolish the uprising in its infancy.

actually root for MSU all the time when they weren't playing Michigan, and then the moment of silence happened, and then Grown Man insulting the physical attributes of 22 year old Student Athlete happened, and then last season happened, and then OMG Dantonio Owns In-State Recruiting!!!! happened and MSU fans started to annoy the crap out of me. Now I root for MSU to get pounded 55 to -3 every week.

el seconded-o. I didn't even mind all the texts during/after the first game of 2007. Realistically, I think any fan could poke fun at us after that, even more so a fan of a rival team. But last year, especially the trash-talking I received that I hadn't delivered in previous years after the UM-MSU game, ruined it all for me.

For the greater good we should probably root for ND. Assuming MSU loses to ND and we beat them they will likely have at least 4 or 5 losses for the season. There is no way they are in the top 25. It's not out of the question for ND to run the table or have their only loss be to USC. Even if they only lose to USC they will still be ranked in the top 15 if not higher.

Did anyone else catch (during the MSU CMU game) the announcer recounting the "second chance" Dantonio afforded to Winston? It made me sick listening to how the actually spun it into a feel-good, "paid his dues" story, and actually praised Dantonio for doing it. No mention about what he actually did, being released in time to practice, or the hockey player (name escapes me) speaking out. Disgusting. Go Irish! shudders...
