Yost scoreboard update: now with Wall-E test runs
I was in Yost this morning, and decided to take a look at the new scoreboards again when I heard some familiar sounds coming from the ice... They were polishing the screen and seemingly giving it a test run with Wall-E. Either that, or Red Berenson likes him some Pixar.
It was beautiful.
Large photos!
These photos must be the size of the screen in Yost.
I wish Red Berenson likes him some Olivia Wilde.
Large scoreboard.
EDIT: Blast, too slow.
Looks great. nearly killed my phone, but thanks for sharing.
the screens appear to have more than 16 pixels now
that is a damn big screen. I bet I can see replays from my place in Chicago! Can't wait to see this in person for the games!
Go Blue!
Can I take my two year old son? Kid loves Wall-E. Though we also watch a lot of Land Before Time.
OH MAN JUST NOSTALGIA'D HARD! I loved Land Before Time. I only moderately enjoyed LB4Ts 2-9.
I truly would like to smash Wall-E and Eva with a hammer into tiny bits. I have three boys - 4yrs and 2yrs twins... enough said.
What is the resolution of those scoreboards? I am just curious... I was surprised that the scoreboards going up in the Big House are actually as low resolution as they are, given how large they are.
Haha really? Really? Did you expect retina screens at all the new stadiums?
Should be a big improvement. Can't wait to see what the Big House looks like with those new scoreboards.
During Band Week way back when, we had rehearsal in the stadium and the guys in the press box were running High Fidelity over the scoreboards while they did work around the bowl. Sometimes you gotta entertain yourself with the biggest TV you have at your disposal.
they didn't test them using 'hockey bear'.
So BIG. And so BLURRY.
Were those taken with a brownie?
If by brownie you mean two year old iPhone 3G struggling to run iOS4 and taken through the smudgy glass boards, then yes. I'll be sure to have a high quality camera on next time I accidentally stumble across Wall-E in Yost.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Cars 2 opens today. I'd totally take my kids to Yost for that.
(And yeah, taking pictures of the oversize HD scoreboards with a blurry 4-megapixel phone seems akin to dumbing down an HDTV with component cable input. But I still appreciate it!)
They could show movies
All Pixar DVDs have a setting to calibrate your TV so they might be doing that
They're going to need to embiggen everything inside Yost now.
Looking at the script "YOST ICE ARENA" on the perimeter of these monsters, look at how miniscule the banners hanging alongside seem. Gotta get everything scaled to "11" or else the jumbo/cloverfieldtron will overwhelm, and the eyes won't be able to focus on anything else (much like the cellphone camera).
some of the more important away games on those boards in front of a packed Yost full of students. Football/basketall etc. I bet you could get some good crowds in there for Michigan @ Michigan State football this fall.
Brilliant idea in my opinion.
Yost vision for the NCAA playoffs. Joe vision is awesome in Detroit.
IIRC by that time Crisler will also have its giant video boards and also won't have the view half its the main seats blocked by the premium seats.
Yost is much closer to campus. I think more people would go since its so much closer.
The people in the center ice suites that shell out the most money have a huge speaker hanging right in their view of the scoreboard. I wonder if this will cause Yost to adjust their accoustics, I hope so for the rich folks' sake.
Was this today, Friday? As of yesterday afternoon, they had Windows Media Player and a still of flowers on the screen with portions of the screen still black. Seems like they're making steady progress then. One of the Yost employees have told me that they will be able to play videogames on it...not a huge videogame player, but can you imagine playing some COD or good ol' fashion Blades of Steel on that?
4 player Halo Reach where everybody has their own jumbotron.
EPIC.
I think it would be cool to have movie/skate nights at the Yost. Have a halloween themed skate while showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show on the HD screens.
Is that thing puck proof? It looks like it will need to be, considering it's only about 20-30 feet above the ice.
