Yannick Ngakoue Update

Just got done chatting with Yannick Ngakoue, Michigan's most recent offer. Yannick is a four-star LB (Rivals; unranked) out of Washington, DC. His offer sheet includes Tennessee, Florida State, West Virginia, Rutgers and Maryland. What we discussed:

  • Michigan contacted him a little over a week ago and offered today. He expected the offer because "Michigan knows that I am a Division 1 caliber player".
  • His interest in Michigan is high: "They are definitely one of my top schools and I want to visit within the next couple months"
  • He likes the academic factor and the tradition, but also likes "how the team plays like a family".
  • He will be watching the basketball game tonight because Coach Mallory told him to.
  • Sandlot is his favorite movie. Yannick and I share the same favorite part as well....the "forever, forever" part.

If I recall correctly, most of Yannick's offers have come relatively recently, so he could be a diamond in the rough type player that Michigan got in on at the right time. I'll be checking back in with Yannick soon for updates regarding his recruitment.

his respone to getting a offer. Yeah I know they will offer me cause they know I am Division 1 caliber player lol

21 years of coaching and every senior who stayed had at least 1 big ten title... That is what " Those who stay will be champions" will really get you Ohio native Bo Schembechler.

Good lord, we did it again. Also talked briefly with Yannick. I'll add that he's 6'2", 226 pounds, he told me he had 87 tackles and nine sacks last season, and he's looking for a school with a good vetrenarian program where he has a chance to play as a true freshman. He said his reaction to the offer was "calm" because he "knew it was God's work."

Veterinarian program?  Coach Mallory will need to work on Yannick to set his goals a little higher to become a people doc instead of a horse doc.

Large animal vets are absolutely crucial to dairy farmers. Do you like to drink milk? If you take your sick dog in to the vet, do you sneer at him for not being a people doc?

As Mr Miggle has pointed out below, U-M does not have a vet school but does have a med school.  If Yannick's criteria is a school with a vet program, we  would be out of consideration.  Hence, he needs to think about being a people doc instead.

Becoming a Veterinarian, like becoming a people doc, would entail graduate work I would think.  I suppose you could get some sort of veterinary degree as an undergraduate - though not at Michigan.

Regardless the undergraduate spectrum of classes at Mich could apply to a grad application to any Vet school.  Sounds like a good candidate to build his own General Studies degree to me.  Still a hard sell for the coaching staff if this matters to him I suppose.
