Yahoo uncovers Kansas scalping operation

Submitted by Zone Read Left on

Yahoo continues to set the bar for uncovering scandals in NCAA. First the Reggie Bush case, now they uncovered an $800,000 scalping operation going on inside Kansas' athletic department. This looks like it may be very, very bad for Kansas, because similar to the Ed Martin case, the Feds are about to get involved and will force people to speak.

1. Thread title left me with inflated expectations. Let's just say we weren't thinking the same type of scalping. 2. Not good for Kansas's prospects in the great race out of the Big 12.

what a real goddamned athletic department scandal looks like. When you've got $200K in cash being delivered to hotel rooms guarded by 250-lb guidos with guns, it sort of makes the foofaraw about tardy CARA reports seem a bit ridiculous, no?

mgo.licio.us comment under "Michigan AD proving himself under fire" I was begging for somthing to happen to get UM off the front page. Now I have to go to church/play the lotto.

the line "we thought we had every safeguard in place".  Really?  I don't know much, but it doesn't seem like you had ANY safeguards in place!

Shocked, I say!

What I don't get is this. How was the Kansas ticket operations guy lifting all these from Kansas' allotment without anyone in the university noticing anyway. Even if he was paying for them at face value out of his own pocket, and then reimbursing himself from the scalping money later,40 odd books of NCAA tourney tickets just being sold without ANY of them having proper documentation of who bought them should raise a gigantic red flag.

More like loss of intestinal control. What a freaking $hit storm this is going to be. And it looks like it won't be confined to Kansas. So I haven't followed it closely but I've heard Beilein doesn't like to deal with certain aspects of the recruiting world. I'm feeling really good about our bball coach.

I have been worried about there being a scandal at Michigan with the point system there. Just too easy to slip an employee a few hundred and have your points adjusted in the computer.

This is huge, though, for Kansas. I would be insanely mad if i had been playing their points game for years and the staff had been slipping three million dollars worth of tickets out the back door. I have to think their fan base is going to be super mad at the University for letting this happen unless the prosecutor comes down on the staff with both feet and gives them hard time.

Perkins had such great influence over hs bb players. Wonder how many of these roads lead back to him? Besides ku, how many other schools have shot their bb programs in this mafia-like mayhem?
