And Julia Roberts back in the day. (If you are old enough for "pretty woman")
"Coach Mattison told me what the Ravens were about, what he thought," Beyer said. "He definitely encouraged me. I hold his opinion in high regard."
And Julia Roberts back in the day. (If you are old enough for "pretty woman")
What are you, one of those uppity Johns who expects a full set of teeth and a clean bill of health from your prostitutes?
Yes. But I'm okay with it if the full set of teeth is hanging on a string around her neck.
If I didn't have two kids under 5, my dad didn't just have quad bypass, and if I hadn't just dropped over 30 g's to sell my old house and purchase my new one, I would love to get away with my wife to Arizona, I bet I could get free tickets right before kickoff. Either way, Go Blue!
Coincidentally, Quad Bypass was the name of the play where John Navarre caught a touchdown against Minnesota.
I hope your dad recovers nicely.
I went to the Outback and Sugar Bowls and had a great time. I'm not going to this one though and candidly never even considered going. As others have mentioned in the thread-I'm far more interested in hearing why non-Arizona residents would be going.....that seems like a more compelling question.
1991 Gator bowl agains Ole Miss. It was awesome. Good guys won, 35-3. Entire offensive line was MVP. There were holes like you wouldn't believe. Seriously, would love to see that again some day.
I remember that game. That was about as dominating a performance as I've seen Michigan turn in at a bowl game. That was pure 100% awesome.
I've been to five:
1986 Rose Bowl - Up 15-0, lose 23-15 to ASU
1997 Rose Bowl - Nuff said
2004 Rose Bowl - If Braylon doesnt drop the TD pass on the first drive I think the game turns out differently
2012 Suger Bowl - Winning ugly personified
2013 Outback Bowl - Fun, fun game. Best loss I've ever watched in person.
I second your comments concerning 2012 and 2013. Only thing I didn't like about 2013 (besides the loss, of course) was hearing all the ESS EEE SEE chants while exiting the stadium.
*1987 Rose Bowl & 1998 Rose Bowl
Ugh. I'm sorry. I hate being "that guy".
Except generally speaking I think you associate the bowl game year with the team year. You are correct, of course, on the date but I think most people put the date with the team.
At least I always have.
For me, Michigan resident, three reasons: 1) My son is a senior in the MMB and it will be his last game, and I can't imagine missing it regardless of where it is. 2) I told my son we would go to any and every bowl game while he was at Michigan, so even if he wasn't in the MMB we would have gone. 3) I would go to any Michigan bowl game, regardless of the location and opponent, if nothing else than solely to support the school and team, as long as I had the means. My frustration or lack thereof, with wins and losses, coaching, etc. is irrelevant to the decision.
Good for you dad - as a fellow father I think that is absolutely FANTASTIC and I would do exactly the same thing if I was lucky enough to have a kid get accepted at Michigan and be talented enough to play in the band.
You must be very proud. I would be.
if they were playing Georgia in the Gator Bowl on New Years Day...Talked to many UM fans who felt the same way ...but this bowl? against WHO? No way...Non new years day bowl games are a downer...sorry just the way many of us feel...Whoever thought sending Michigan to this game against a nobody school was Mistaken,,In fact I dont recall any other bowl game weve ever been in that I could care less about than this year...Team 134 needs to be forgotten and quickly
If someone wants to donate game tickets and plane tickets I'd gladly go. Not in the budget of a broke college kid
I live in GA, have season tickets and have no problem travelling. I just looked at this as time away from work to see a team which has had some piss poor games and that's mostly to blame on the coaches. I see now that Brandon will live or die with Hoke. This is a major risk and one I'm not too keen on. I'll still keep my season tickets and root for them, but I'll be very quick to pull out the bitching about Hoke and company whenever i can. This bowl game just all around sucks. There shouldn't be a bowl game for two 7 and 5 teams to play in.
20 minute drive down the 101 from my house. There are a fair number of alumni in the Valley, pretty much everyone I have talked to are going.
Not to knock KSU, but how many posts have there even been about KSU's football team? Has there been a bowl opponent in the recent history that has engendered this kind of ennui?
I'd say it's also how the regular season went this year.
You clearly haven't been visiting TTB enough. I'm offended.
I'm just lazy. It's too much work now to have to do an additional click to look at the hot chicks, so I don't visit as often.
Luckily, not being lazy is usually on everyone's New Year's Resolution list.
I just went and looked at your previews. Great stuff so far, although if Gardner doesn't play (or even if he has just a few days practicing with the team I will be worried about his effectiveness), you might need to update your review of the QBs.
K-State has that NDSU loss to open the season but after that they won the games they should have and were competitve in their losses to OU, Texas, Ok St, and Baylor. I get what you are saying though but it's the life of two 7-5 teams.
Arizona is a great place to visit but like others have said, flights are expensive, especially during the holidays. Also, the date for the BWW Bowl being so close Christmas it overlaps other holiday commitments for me that are more important.
This has been a tough year as whole for me and Michigan football. I feel like I am getting priced out at every corner and it's not because I cannot afford it but it's I just don't see value in a $95 ticket for Nebraska or $75 for Akron. That's how I feel about the bowl game. $700 for the flight isn't terrible and game tickets are cheap but I'm not paying $2000 for a bowl game to see two unranked, 7-5 teams fight it out for the championship of mediocracy. Again, there is no value.
Visiting some of my wife's family in San Diego. So I will be joining some of them at the Holiday Bowl. I will unfortunately miss BWW Bowl since they are both on at the same time. I will be looking at the scoreboard constantly to see if they show the score. The Holiday Bowl shoul to be a good gamewit Texas Tech vs Arizona State. I'm not sure which I will be rooting for though. I probably cheer for whoever the inlaws do.
Better husband than fan. Shame
read a lot of these comments. I get that it's an expensive trip and the opponent isn't sexy. Still, how can a fan not be invested enough in the farewells to a guy like Lewan or the guts of Gardner who left it all on the field his last game to skip the snark? How can a fan not think of the pledges of a guy like Peppers and not at least pay lip service to the traditions and goals of the program?
I can, but that doesn't put an extra grand in my pocket.
Lip service to the tradition and goals of the program? Tradition is not playing KANSAS STATE in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl for one. That shouldn't be a goal either. And I highly doubt whether Lewan gives half a shit how many sweaty forty year old men are living vicariously through him. I'm not dropping $2,000 and a bunch of vacation days to see Michigan play in a worthless bowl against a lackluster opponent just to make some players feel better. I hate this bullshit: "you're not a fan if you don't spend $1,000 minimum a year at Dave Brandon's MDen and support every single thing about the team without question or complaint." This team and Athletic Department have raised a lot of questions in many people's minds and it's about time they reaped what they've sown.
Holy shit Crootin that was perfect. Fantastic response.
the point. Odd for a person of your apparent standards of excellence.
Actually he got the point and just stuck it in your bottom. Fan isn't an achievement you unlock by dropping so many dollars to support a business.
I would love to go. But it's simply not in the budget for me this year.
I've been to a bowl once in my life. I want to go, but it's hard to make happen.
My only bowl experience was the 78th Rose Bowl in 1992. We lost but it was wonderful!
I am driving from LA, and I got my tix on stubhub, so I don't know if it would count against the UM allotment. Buying tix through mgoblue.com doesn't let you see where the seats are...just the price level. So, for an extra $15, I got tix on stubhub and picked out my seats. Not saying it's a big game, but there are little things the school could do (like let you pick your seats!!!) to increase that ticket count.
...and nothing is better than Scottsdale in the winter...but I personally have no desire to see Michigan play Kansas State in a BWW Bowl Game...so I get the disinterest. It is just not a sexy match-up or bowl.
Team we play, where we play. I will never go to a lower tier bowl game unless it's in my area.
Because we are playing in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
But I might have gone and made into a golf/football get away.
It doesn't surprise me that people aren't going. If you wanted a kick in the soul dong, you can just stay local and watch the Lions. Way cheaper.
I'm going. It's a short 6 hour drive for me. Clearly, I'd rather go to the Rose Bowl, but I'm die hard and I love me some Michigan football.
Crappy Bowl. Crappy Opponent. Crappy Date. Crappy Start Time. The real question is why are 5500 people going? I expected more like 55. After shelling out $4200 for my season tickets, I'll stay at home and watch this embarrassment for free. And if we win, that Crappy Trophy better not see the light of day in Schembechler Hall. Embarrassment to the program. And it only gets worse with the new bowl tie-ins starting next year. Better get this program back to where it belongs. Fast.
Who are we playing and where?
Considering your lack of knowledge about who Michigan is playing, perhaps you should remove the "we" from your question and simply ask where Michigan's team is playing. You are clearly not a part of the equation.
