Xavier Kelly set to announce Friday
We are worse than the Clemsons, Ole Miss's, and Auburns of the world. We must have great bagmen using your logic.
Explain the recent OUTSTANDING recruiting success of not Alabama, but OLE MISS (YTOM) and explain Laquon's photo when he committed....
I completely agree about Ole Miss. But not Clemson.
because Laquon Treadwell very possibly took money at Ole Miss
Xavier Kelly must be doing so at Clemson as well
This makes perfect sense.
It isn't. There are plenty of recruits who do not face that accusation. But it's equally absurd to claim that money is never involved given the allegations constantly leveled and in several cases proved against schools from the South. When Treadwell picked Ole Miss, we heard the same statements you're making. And what do you know, they're now under investigation.

Just because other kids have taken money doesn't mean Kelly has. It seems pretty unfair to basically call a kid a cheater based solely on the school he chose. We have a problem speculating on which players will transfer, but we have no problem calling a kid a cheater for choosing to play in the South?
I'm not saying that there aren't a bunch of kids taking money, but saying that nearly all 5-star players are on the take is just as presumptuous as saying only a few are. You have absolutely now idea how many players are taking money. How many is it? 20%? 50%? 90%? You have no idea, and no realiable means to give even an educated guess.
This is why it sounds like the sour grapes of a red-headed step-child to scream "bag men!" every time a good recruit heads south. It's pretty sad that this board feels the need to make itself feel better by conclusively calling every kid a materialistic cheater that succumbed to the influences of the bag men based on nothing more than his school choice. It's pathetic.
You're pathetic.
....says one of the guys suggesting a 17 yr old accepted a bribe with no supporting evidence whatsoever?
and I'm sure Michigan players have taken money under the table. I wish we could lose the charade and pay players straight up. But when people are saying that a player is on the take, the negative stigma of "cheater" goes along with that whether it's fair or not. So declaring that a kid took money based entirely on the school he chose is pretty uncool. Very undude.
I hope we're prepared to accept that Mitch McGary was lured to Michigan by those bastard Michigan bag men because it's "pretty clear" that there's no reason why a top 5 player like him would chose Michigan over better programs like Duke or Florida
Someone stop me if there's photo evidence of Xavier Kelly receiving money

Are those orange hand grenades?
The difference is that Michigan basketball hasn't had players tweet pictures of cash like Clemson football has.

Yeah, I am going with the bagmen being the NCAA's fault. Colleges buy the love of top students all of the time through various fellowships and grants. For that matter, students get cash awards from colleges for all kinds of things: write a good essay, volunteer in the community, whatever (Michigan has several such awards). Surely something similar should be possible for sports.
Ohhhh right. There is a cartel governing all financial transactions between universities and 17 year old kids.
Usually I respect your comments but you are totally off on this one. Not sure why you're deciding to take this stance with Kelly but you're way off.

If we lose a kid to Wisconsin, USC, Notre Dame, Kansas or even Alabama (hmmmm), probably no issues. But when the Ole Miss and Clemson start recently pulling in 5 stars, well they must just love the ice cream parlor down in Oxford.

and when it finally looks like they won't suck, they lose 50-3 to Wake Forest
They beat Ohio State at least. AIIIIIYOOOOO, UP TOP!
Wait.
saying "School X pays a lot of recruits," and "Player A chose School X, so he must be on the take." It amazes me that people don't see that.

Agreed. We've flipped a number of recruits that I'm sure other schools were expecting to get over the past few years too. Are they assuming that we're doing something shady?
I just don't see why so many people assume shady dealings when we lose a recruit to school that's had a lot of success recently (even though it may be against poor competition) in desireable geographic areas.
I always found it ironic that on MGoBlog people always talk about the Bag Man at other schools like Michigan didnt have to take banners down because of a Bag Man. Glass houses, eh.

It'd be one thing if Clemson ever wore the purple jerseys anymore, but they don't. I guess wearing orange just like everyone else is what makes them stand out to recruits. Makes sense.
Stupid Clemson.

I disagree. It is 4-star quality film, but it's not like he's a can't-miss prospect. He has weaknesses just like almost any prospect.

suffer through probation back in the 80's, ( Albeit for violations that by today's high bar currently set by the then vanguards of integrtiy,so they said, North Carolina....would not even get us an interview with the NCAA. One of the big violations at that time was giving a few thousand dollars to a recruit that never set foot on campus.Ever.) in the last 30 years, I am confident we have been above board in recruiting.
If you want an answer to why we are landing these top players, just listen to Urban Meyer, who said during a broadcast of a Clemson where he was a commentator. Urban said, " WHen I was at Florida I wondered why we were losing players to Clemson, but now that I have come here, I see that it is a very special place. A couuple of years ago when my daugher was obtaining her Masters degree in architecture at Michigan, I finally had the opportunity to come to the Big House and actually have a certified reason to yell," Go Blue". I did so, wearing my Orange hat and Paw at the top of my lungs. You were playing Illinois and it was a fairly cold and rainy day. Anyway, the first time I stood up and yelled at one of your running backs to,"Go,Go,Goooooo!", I was amazed at the looks I got from the people around me. They were looking at me like I was an alien or something. I looked back at them and said," I'm sorry, but we yell pretty loud in Death Valley". Later in that game, one your players got hit late out of bounds and a few fans right by the infraction booed a little. A little I say. In Clemson, a play that egregious would have brought out the boo birds for several more plays. And I mean, 80,000 of them. Watch the middle of the 3rd quarter of our game with South Caroilina when our first round draft pick got ejected on a bogus targeting call. Turn up the sound and listen. Or , pull up a video of the 2005 Miami game I believe where we set that crowd noise level at about 130 decibels. Come to a game here sometime and tailgate underneath the shade trees with the most courteous fans you will ever meet, and get a ticket in the upper deck so you can look out over the lake. See for yourself what makes Clemson special. As we say here in God's Country, " There's something special in them there hills"
Go Blue
Go Tigers!
Spud
Shut it assface.
