Talking coaching selection, of course.

...Pat Fitzgerald was part of DB's process to explore out of the box candidates.
She jokingly mentions getting sucked into flightaware like everyone else.
Tried to communicate with DB yesterday and got a "thanks, no thanks, don't want to talk right now" response.

Also mentioned he's probably in Dallas, as he should be, where there are tons of coaches in town for that conference.
Really, I'm thinking Brian's guess about a secret candidate from way out of left field, is accurate (Me not Angelique.)

...no doubt in her mind that he wants the Michigan job. If he interviews but doesn't get the job, it puts him in an even more precarious position with the LSU fanbase, so he's taking a bit of a leap of faith.

As far as Bacon saying Miles was never offered, we could be getting into semantics here.
Otherwise, I would like to know Bacon's source. Something happened with Miles, and some MSM sources think so, too.

Bacon's source is any number of people within Michigan Athletics. Guy is just about as connected as any journalist can get within the AD. While I sometimes take him with a grain of salt, as he's very careful with what he says and how he says it, I tend to think he's usually about as informed as you can get about what's really going on behind the scenes.

Bacon may be well-connected, but I wonder how forthcoming Bacon is being here. That Miles was never offered is probably true as far as it goes. But, what did happen? Bacon sounds like nothing happened. I don't think nothing happened.

...Angelique: "How about a third guy? Who is the most likely?"
Chengelis: There was some interest in Patterson. Wouldn't rule out Mullen. Believes Brandon is shopping around, but it will come down to Miles and Hoke. Either selection would be a win for Michigan.
Bacon: "What's your bet?"
Chengelis: "It's a toss up. Two days ago I would have said, Les." Says it's 50-50 now.
Pretty clear she's going on gut feeling. DB has an extremely tight ship now. No leaks.

LOVE the music choice... So Fresh So clean by Outkast. Nice!

How often does Bacon report a version of events that doesn't cast M in the best possible light? Bacon has great sources within M because he always takes the company line. He's like an extension of the marketing department. Grain of salt here. There's usually another side.

Well, I don't know if I'd go with -always-, but there is a certain price someone must pay for access like that. Bacon is just about as professional as it gets, and I've heard him get quite objective when need be.

I really don't care what Lloyd or Mary Sue thinks about who should or shouldn't coach Michigan. DB needs to find somone to win and stabilize the program. I mean, MSC? What gives a damn what she thinks.
January 10th, 2011 at 11:24 AM ^
Well, ultimately, Dave reports to her. So, that might be worth at least a half-damn. Maybe even three quarters.
(Note: I have no reason to believe that MSC does or does not have an opinion on any particular candidate this go-round. At least publicly, she is Not Involved. Very different from the last dance.)

miles, patterson, or mullen i would be happy. no disrespect towards hoke but i think that hire would set us back a few yrs.
