Michigan backed off a kid when it looks like the kid is going to end up elsewhere, but I actually think it's likely to be true here. Don't think this was totally (or even mostly) Wright's call.
January 11th, 2012 at 11:50 AM ^
That he claims to be a U of M fan, but then goes to a rival school. (I know he hasn't yet, but say he does) Guess the hatred for some of the rivals is not totally shared
January 11th, 2012 at 12:06 PM ^
There are probably six or seven commits in the 2012 class alone who grew up as Ohio State fans. I think they really end up going to the schools they feel most comfortable at in the end.
January 11th, 2012 at 12:23 PM ^
I'm sure there's a lot of truth to what you say but to not even visit seems a bit odd to me.
January 11th, 2012 at 1:42 PM ^
Can't disagree with you there.
January 11th, 2012 at 11:50 AM ^
Damn, that's a shame.
Best of luck to him.
January 11th, 2012 at 11:53 AM ^
Guess someone really really wants to get screamed at for the next four years.
January 11th, 2012 at 12:01 PM ^
As was posted in the Madaris thread on Monday, according to Webb, Michigan made the decision to stop recruiting Wright last Tuesday.
**Edit**
The rumor is that it's an attitude/character issue that may have turned the Michigan coaches off.
January 11th, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
Would guess the torching in one-on-ones against top-flight WRs in the AA practices, as well as the 2012 cupboard overflowing with projected safeties also played a role.
Not sour grapes, would have loved him in the class if he projected as a true, 6'2" corner.
He may end up being a killer safety in college. God knows the Domers need the help in the backfield. Would be VERY surprised if he played corner in college for the Domers, unless Kelly wants an aneurysm.

With all this secret visiting - not visiting, speculation on who is involved, and he said - she said . . . I don't know what the f-ck is going on! LOUD NOISES!
January 11th, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
Grant is making his second visit this weekend though...commitment watch?

Supposedly grades. Who knows if that was a cover for something else though, talent or otherwise.
January 11th, 2012 at 12:23 PM ^
it was confirmed grades by the higher ups. He didn't meet U of M requirements. ( and many others) look for him to be at boise.
January 11th, 2012 at 12:19 PM ^
Dee Hart. Kris Frost. Yuri Wright. All "lifelong" Michigan fans who are (or will) playing elsewhere. I no longer subscribe to the lifelong fan meme until signing day.
January 11th, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
ah no one listens to me, I made two posts about this in the past couple weeks. I knew (well suspected) this visit would never happen. You follow recruiting for almost 20 years and you see things again and again. Wright's recruitment didn't smell right (no pun intended) the whole way. Not in a shady sense, just in the sense that somebody, us or him, maybe both, didn't have the level of interest that was presumed/stated. Not visiting his "childhood fav" until Jan was a sign, people on the board pointed out that his coach wouldnt allow visits until after the season, but somehow he found time to get to ND and Colorado of all places in Dec. The Colorado visit by itself was real weird for a kid who was/is suppossedly a big recruit from New Jersey.
If I had to guess, we slow played him and maybe ultimately dropped him and I wouldnt be surprised if ND ultimately doesn't take him. Although with Darby dropping and his teammate in the fold, maybe they do. I could also see him ending up someplace like Rutgers.
January 11th, 2012 at 1:39 PM ^
Just fyi, to explain the Colorado interest, he's friends with a freshman on the team at Colorado, and some of his coaches/advisors/mentors or whatever are pretty close with the Colorado staff.
January 11th, 2012 at 12:34 PM ^
coaching staff. This has been said before but his performance at the Army All-American game, his practice videos, etc. seemed to indicate that he may not be what we think he is. A lot of experts have cooled off on him as of late. They say he will most likely end up as a safety and that at CB he is very raw and need A LOT of work. Reeves, on the other hand, is more solid, at this point, at corner, so the experts think based on videos, etc.
Garnett
Sam Grant
Reeves
and another 4/5 star would work for me =)
January 11th, 2012 at 1:03 PM ^
I wonder how much of his hype had to do with him being a 6'2" corner? Recruiting sites partly rate on the basis of "potential" and height has a lot to do with that when speaking of dbs. It could be that our coaching staff took a close look and, despite the potential, just didn't think he was an elite ball player.

Shane Morris types who are TRUE lifelong fans
Shane says "Michigan is where it's at....GO BLUE!!!!"
and those that grew up following a school (or two), like the school, but are willing to look into other schools......
See....the second guy from the right (Thank God he was the second type of a lifelong fan)
January 11th, 2012 at 1:43 PM ^
I don't know what it is, but Kyle not making the M hand gesture, scares me. I am probably WAY over analyzing it and being overly pessimistic, right? Right!
January 11th, 2012 at 4:11 PM ^
What you can't see is that he is actually lifting Magnuson off the ground with his left arm and Ross with his right.
January 11th, 2012 at 1:02 PM ^
oh well. but i've got a good feeling about reeves so if we get him i'm not too worried.

Recruiting meltdown threads. The perfect way to kill time between Bowl Season and the post seasons for hockey and basketball.
January 11th, 2012 at 2:45 PM ^
Well what do you expect us to do? Be rational about everything? Screw that, this is the internet!
January 11th, 2012 at 1:19 PM ^
I know that some are saying at his size he may project at safety, but is it really a bad thing to have another safety?
January 11th, 2012 at 1:28 PM ^
I think the bigger problem is that we're pretty young at safety (with the exception of Kovacs) and lots of them are projects (Furman, Carter, Robinson, etc.). With two safeties already in this class - one of whom (Jarrod Wilson) I think will be very good - I don't think there's a great need for another safety.
Regardless, I think Michigan dropping Wright has more to do with character than depth issues or how he played this past weekend.
January 11th, 2012 at 2:09 PM ^
I am pretty excited to see Jeremy Clark also. He had a monster senior year and even though he plays in KY(not a big football factory state), he seems to be pretty underrated and I just want to see if his work ethic translates to the college level.
January 11th, 2012 at 2:19 PM ^
Yeah, I forgot about Clark because I keep thinking of him being in the 2013 class.

What happened?
The great majority of our class was filled by September. We now only have four spots left. Unless you expected Hoke to start pulling a bunch of offers from current commits, we were always in for a relatively quiet month leading up to signing day.
January 11th, 2012 at 3:25 PM ^
This is exactly why I think we should have signed an 85-man class.
January 11th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
So... Armani Reeves or bust?
January 11th, 2012 at 2:10 PM ^
I wonder if Ace Williams thinks Reeves will commit to Michigan
January 11th, 2012 at 2:40 PM ^
darby he just decomitted from nd which is probably where wright will end up
January 11th, 2012 at 2:44 PM ^
Brady Hoke and his staff have done a tremendous job of not only recruiting a great class, but also coaching up the kids that were there this year. Don't forget that this year's defense was essentially the same defense as last year and improved by over 100 spots in the FCS for total defense and scoring defense. Even if we do not get the highest rated players, we will get the right plyers for our team. I am not worried about someone who has said that they are a "life-long Michigan fan" not coming here. As the late, great Bo said 'Those who stay will be Champions!"
January 11th, 2012 at 3:50 PM ^
I posted last week michigan stopped recruiting Wright. Ohio State is pushing for Reeves also. It would not surprise me to see him visit when Cam Williams does.
