Would you ever be in favor of reconfiguring the endzone seating at Michigan Stadium?
Went to the spring game yesterday and no matter how many times I walk into Michigan Stadium I am always amazed at the big cavernous bowl. Got me thinking though how different/neat it would be if the endzones were to ever have decks or be completely reconfigured making the stadium more loud/intimidating. The bowl is extremely shallow and that causes seat views closer to field level to be not as good and for noise to evaporate up. Included a few pictures of what some other schools and venues have done. I really like what LSU did especially. Thoughts?
Would they still be at the ends?
And would the ends ever meet?
All's well that ends well

I'm at wits end
nitwits
Anything you do to the endzones will take away from the capacity. Keep it as it is.
What if capacity wouldn't be sacrificed?
Add another deck surrounding the scoreboards, bookended by the existing towers. Capacity up to 126,901
That would be, uh, odd.
It would kind of look like Lambeau Field
This would be the most viable thing at Michigan Stadium.
Money rules all and it would not likely be cost-effective to add decks to the end zone seats. They would not be very good seats, and in this day and age you might not fill them.
I would say this though: If they are going to do suites in the end zones, then they need to "give back" to the students and regular fans. Everything can't be just for the rich donors.
Designate a suite or two for the students, and a suite or two for the regular fans. Then each quarter of each game pick some student fans at random and some regular fans at random and invite them to come up to the suites with a guest for that quarter.
And when they are there, wine them and dine them. Treat them like they matter to the program just as much as the rich guys.
Nice thought, but like you said, it may not be cost effective and maybe also a pain to administer.
Why is that in any way less odd than sticking a deck on?
This looks better....
Than this....
Put down the bong and walk away, son
Simple innocent question. No need to go full Brandon. With that said this is Ann Arbor. Bongs are a required household appliance.
Pick up the bong and come over here, son.
It's Hash Bash day.
The stadium is plenty loud and intimidating when the crowd gets into it. Just think of the Northwestern game.
It's simple acoustics. The fact that the bowl is so shallow makes noise dissipate much easier than at some other venues. i think if we're being honest we would all like it louder.

You know, assuming I head that way and am not stuck eternally at the horseshoe.

then yell louder....
I do think part of it though is due to our history. When I was there in the early 90's I remember some of the long long time season ticket holders that would get bent at the student section for standing or being too loud. We were interfering with one guys ability to listen to the broadcast on JR.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing either. But that long line of season ticket holders are less likely, I think, to be gonzo crazy like the relatively more recent big crowds at other stadiums.

One of my favorite moments in Michigan Stadium, ever.
I clicked on this thread wondering "well, where the hell ELSE would you put the end zones?" That's how unlikely I am to consider changing the existing structure of Michigan Stadium.

Thread title made me think of changing the endzone colors.
I think a Blue background with Maize lettering would be pretty sharp in the endzones.
They look great in bowl games.
As for upper bowls. No.
for putting real wolverines with invisible fence collars in the end zone of the opposing team.
Remember: In football you try to ge the ball into the opposing teams' end zone.
