Would you be in favor of M Football playing a game @ Comerica Park?
September 15th, 2011 at 5:38 PM ^
You don't say!
September 15th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
What? Astronomically bad idea.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
No.
Now let's never speak of this again.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:11 PM ^
Comerica Park could find a way to add 100,000 seats, maybe. Wont risk having Michigan not be the largest attended game in the country in order to play at a whimpy baseball field
September 15th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
Only if it were a "road" game.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
I think Ford FIeld would be nice for Detroit, but honestly, most teams play at a pro field because it's a step up and a cool experience for the teams involved. Problem is, no pro fields trump the Big House.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
Maybe if they still had old Tiger Stadium, and that's just a MAYBE, because of the historical significance. But Comerica? Nah.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
is this a serious question???
September 15th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
think about the fans and old alumni reaction to this ..lol alot of people were upset about a night game and new unis!!!!
September 15th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
Didn't both of those teams always have to go the same direction because the field was too short? I play at MIS and have a crowd of 300k.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
And then I say we break out special black jerseys.
/s
This was just to see what you guys would think. I guess I should have left my crazy thoughts in my head. I am also kind of surprised at the fact that Michigan has not played a game in Detroit in 110 years. 11/2/1901 against Carlisle, won 22-0.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:23 PM ^
Michigan-Michigan State played in the largest stadium in the world, anyone? Sure, its in North Korea but what the heck? Isn't Michigan football important enough to risk our lives and soverignty to attend?

September 15th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
This would create an interesting dilemma for me. I wonder if my wife would like to make it a family vacation and she can take the kids on a tour of repression and abject poverty while I go to the Michigan game.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:53 PM ^
Yea, then when your kids grow up and their colleges talk about the joys of socialism they will know, the only thing it will bring would be a kick ass stadium
September 15th, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
Not for little brother. Ohio, maybe.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
Hell No!
September 15th, 2011 at 5:25 PM ^
hell no
September 15th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
I wouldn't mind having michigan play at comerica if it was an already scheduled away game and a team like eastern, western, etc used it as their home stadium. I would never want to play a home game there though.
Also, when Northwestern played their home game at wrigley they were moving a a stadium (park) that has more tradition. Unlike NW, the stadium with the most tradition in the state of michigan is the big house, so why move?
September 15th, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
will I desire to see Michigan play at Comerica Park.
If you are referring to something similar to what Northwestern did last season...did you SEE that fiasco? That was the dumbest stunt ever attempted by someone from the B1G not wearing a bow tie or living in C-Bus.
Why play a game 40 miles from the best stadium in America when you don't have to.
Horrible idea! Next?
September 15th, 2011 at 5:37 PM ^
if its an away game for a shitty opponent, a la msu vs whoever they played at Ford Field last year or indiana moving a home game vs PSU to maryland. that way it wouldn't count as a home game but we would get to go.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
Not as a substitute for a Michigan home game anyway......Now, as a substitute for a road game in East Lansing or somewhere, that's another story.....
September 15th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
worst.idea.ever.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:57 PM ^
Don't argue with an idiot... He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. Just try and maintain "If I agree with you, we would both be wrong" and call it good.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:02 PM ^
NW hosts us at wrigley and its their home game = cool
Indiana moves their home game to comerica = cool
MSU moves their home game to comerica = cool
besides that all home games should stay at The Big House
September 15th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
but it makes no financial sense to play a game in a 40,000 seat facility when there is a 60,000 seat facility literally 30 yards across the street.
Only if some shmuck team wants to give up their home game to play at Ford Field or Comerica. Even then it makes no sense when Michigan can probably offer them a better deal to play at Michigan Stadium.
I could see playing Northwestern at Soldier Field or IU/Purdue at Lucas Oil someday if they want to give up thier home field, but our friends in East Lansing have already pointed out what a bad idea playing a bad opponent in a neutral site really can be with the MSU game at Ford Field last year.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
Almost better than this:
September 15th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
We play at one of the greatest venues in sports, in front of the largest crowd. Other than a road game, why would we ever want to play anywhere else?
Also, I don't love this new trend in CFB about playing all of these neutral site games at pro stadiums. One of the things I like about college football is that the games take place right on campus - brings that college atmosphere to the games. There is something cool about walking into another team's campus and taking on their team (or having them come to your campus).

And her I though T everyone that read and commented on this board was intelligent. Thanks for ruining that for me OP.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Anything other than the Big House would be underwhelming.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
The Big House is the best stadium in America. The only game I would like to see Michigan play in Detroit is the Big Ten Championship.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
I feel like.....
September 15th, 2011 at 6:47 PM ^
That says home and home's only. Eff JerryWorld and any other neutral site.

Oh wait, you were talking about a dumber idea?

Then, no.
September 15th, 2011 at 6:53 PM ^
in the country. Why would we want to play somewhere else?
September 15th, 2011 at 6:58 PM ^
This idea is as bad as ABC creating a series about a defunct air carrier.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
No, it's much worse than that.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
...is for teams that don't have stadiums that exceed 110,000 on a regular basis.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:08 PM ^
Didn't we just add some boxes and scoreboards to our stadium?
September 15th, 2011 at 7:10 PM ^
I looked at this thread title since it was posted thinking "I'm not even clicking on that it's such a dumb idea." Then I saw that it had a lot of replies and I thought maybe there was discussion back and forth on the issue, so I clicked on the thread intending to tell the board why this was a dumb idea.
As it turns out, the thread simply had 75 people saying exactly what I was thinking.
But yeah, dumb idea, bro.
September 15th, 2011 at 9:00 PM ^
I think it was such a bad idea that everybody wanted to say the same answer to reinforce to the OP that it was just that bad of an idea.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
We've seen that before with Da Bears and Da Bulls....
But seriously, Michigan Stadium is an unique venue, so playing football away from there for a home game really isn't a plus. (1) There is no game history like there was in the Chicago game where once in the past, games were regularly held - back in the heyday of Red Grange, didn't Illinois play at Soldier Field? (2) The place isn't superior in its own history...Michigan Stadium trumps Comerica park easily....
If the Big 10 were to add a East Coast team, and the game were held at Yankee Stadium, yes, I could see that - that stadium has also quite a long history, not exactly the house that Ruth built, but still a storied place.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
Comerica is a subpar venue for everything but baseball. Kid Rock even plays better in other places. I would be up for Ford Field for the 2016 Big 10 Championship.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:44 PM ^
NO!! That is all.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:46 PM ^
And it's making me ANGAR!
The Big House is one of the most storied stadiums in all of college football, the end.
September 15th, 2011 at 7:49 PM ^
The only reason would be to get around the Big Ten all getting to share any home game cash. I'd be down only if it's part of a great swindle in which we stage some catastrophe at CoPark* so that Michigan is forced to move the game to another time and venue, which ends up being noon at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, which I hear is quite a nice facility for handling football crowds.
That is the only scenario where I'd be down.
* Or just have the Tigers need to play a World Series game that day. Oh darn.
September 15th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
Only if the field doesn't quite fit in and they can only play in one direction.... Wait, my apologies, must've had an aneurysm.
Hell No!
September 15th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
This would be a nonstarter for a home game for reasons given above. I'll try to convert this into a potentially interesting question: are there any potential nonconference opponents who would agree to a "neutral site" game at a site much closer to our campus than theirs? Mid-majors would not have enough clout to get a game anywhere but Ann Arbor, and power programs would be able to insist on a home-and-home or a real neutral site. That leaves lower-drawing BCS teams that would have to be close enough to make it a reasonable day trip for their fans to get up to southeast Michigan. Maybe Louisville or Cincinnati would agree to this. I'm not sure Kentucky or Vanderbilt would.
September 15th, 2011 at 8:01 PM ^
NW and Ill are in a situation where it makes sense for them to do that. The only way I would want Michigan to play at Comerica or Ford is if it counts as a Spartan home game. We have an iconic stadium. We fill the seats at every home game. Our alumni and fan base is massive. IMO...no.
