Would Ann Arbor accept Todd Graham?

Submitted by Ron Utah on

With the rumors of the Brandon's impending removal starting to get downright frothy, the CC talk becomes even more likely.

One candidate that's getting a lot of attention is Todd Graham.  He's got a great track record, though some question his loyalty after a one-year stint at Pitt.  But my question has a lot more to do with culture...could a guy who sounds like Graham and says things like this in the locker room (following the hail mary win over USC):

The good Lord blessed us. Let me tell you something: Give the glory where it should be. There's no doubt in my mind.

A bad haircut, a thick southern accent, and giving the glory to God after a win...would Michigan embrace this man?  I am not passing judgment on him--I'm in favor of Graham being considered.  I'm just curious to read what the board thinks.

I assume you're not very religious. Nothin wrong with giving praise to God. Don't make this into some religious or non religios PR move. That's ridiculous. If he's a good candidate then he's a good candidate. I personally like what he said.

  1. Did you read the post?  I said I support Graham being considered.  I wanted others' opinions.
  2. I'm not talking about a "PR move."  I'm talking about a cultural fit, and was curious to see how people would react to a coach openly praising God in the locker room.
  3. I'm not going to discuss my faith here, but you have no idea who I am or what I believe.

happens under a new AD starting in December, I would hope and pray that the best the University of Michigan, the winingest program in history and one of the top 15 jobs in the country (i hope it still is), that we can do better than Todd Graham.  He's not bad, better than Hoke, but come on, we need a game changer, a top tier coach that gets the competition thinking and worrying, not chuckling.

I don't like the way he left both Rice and Pittsburgh after one year. I understand that sometimes in order to get the job you want you have to leave a program earlier, but you still need to leave the program in decent shape. He didn't do that.

Kind of like Lane Kiffin at Tennessee. Kiffin at least was leaving for his dream job.

I don't give a shit if he's got an accent or if he's religious, though. I want somebody who has integrity, who can win and who isn't quite as mercenary as Todd Graham.

Sorry, but anyone without a rock solid pedigree should not, in fact cannot be considered for the head coaching position. there are only a handful of candidates who could step in and add prestige to the program. Sure, we've had Bo and Moe and now someone wants to hire Curly. We can't afford a slowdown in the program. The cost is prohibitive; lost donations, lost recruits, lost fans and their dollars. A good number of people are already grumbling about paying top dollar for tickets, only to see tickets given away and prices for food and drink going through the roof. Assuming we had one. Prices continue to go up while the quality of play erodes.

Many alumni and fans have supported the program for years with their dollars and cheers. Now is not the time to short change anyone. Not the alums, not the student body and certainly not the players. If a change must be made, it is imperative to bring in a proven winner, a man of stature, one who commands respect and integrity.

The young men on the field deserve the best the University can deliver.

We're worried because he's a coach from the south and believes in God?!? How about we look for a coach that WINS GAMES period. Personally I don't want him because I don't think he'll succeed here. But I can't believe this is even an issue.
