Woolfolk to CB - That worked...

Submitted by TESOE on
GERG did well with this adjustment. Troy played shut down ball. This allowed us to rush more (the TD on the blitz was a gamble on Mich's part...Williams was not going to cover Moeaki regardless). Break out game by BG - I think in part because of the firmer secondary. Yes Williams should have helped Warren on that bomb. But Woolfolk is the new CB. Please no injuries vs. Delaware State!!

and Turner turns into what we all think he could be we may have a road map for a good secondary. Also we need to beg borrow and steal in recruiting for a Safety and middle linebacker! I can't stand seeing OE missing tackles and getting run over all the time.

But you can't rush when they are not calling the holds anymore and we are only rushing 3 guys...we brought the house tonight and forced them to be honest with BG...result he dominated - more than in previous games. We brought the house because CB was not an issue. Yes BG has been a beast - but he was more so tonight - why?

Kovacs and Floyd were out of position many times tonight. No one thing caused the loss, but our secondary is FAR from fixed. I'll have to watch the game again tomorrow, but I think the LBs were defintely better tonight. The Oline certainly gave Tate plenty of time to throw on many occasions, too badthe receivers didn't get open.

but is having him at CB worth having mike williams at safety? Depends how bad you think the Cissoko/Floyd combo is? Anyone with some knowledge of defensive scheming able to shed some light on how you would decide this issue?

Warren should have had two pick-6s. It hurt to watch that second one slip through his hands. Oh well. I'll take the one he got. Kovacs missed a few tackles that were pretty ugly. One particular one stood out in my mind where he was one on one with the RB in the hole. Kovacs dropped to his knees and the Iowa RB ran right past him.

We all should have known that the deep safety position was going to be an issue tonight. I have a hard time blaming Williams and Kovacs since they're playing new roles back there. Kovacs might be a decent traditional strong safety, but he wasn't meant to cover a deep third or play center field in man free coverage. I think Williams could be okay at it if he gets some experience there, but last year he played kind of a slot corner position and this year he's been a glorified OLB until last night. You can't put guys in new situations and expect that they'll play like veterans there. If not for the 5 turnovers, we probably win that game. But we didn't take care of the ball and Iowa did.

just made me miss him as a Safety. Wisconsin could hurt our defense significantly more than Iowa did. Pryor might not be the best QB in the Big Ten, and he might not be the 5th best QB in the Big Ten but OSU has ways to hurt us on defense too. (A significantly better group of recievers than Iowa, for one, and a better running game, behind a very good OSU O-line.) We need to get some things figured out. This defense needs to improve more. I'm not at all satisfied.

OT Tigers had a washed up third basemen named Enos Cabel whose nickname was "old dude". Al Kaline during a broadcast referred to Enos Cabel as "old folks". You may have to be familliar with Al's mastery of the english language to appreciate the humor in this

looked decent taking into account that we spotted them 4 extra drives with the TO differential. We held them to 367 yards, partly because Iowa just doesn't have an explosive offense(in particular Stanzi is average at best), and Woolfolk was certainly an upgrade to anything we've had outside of Warren this year. Only one game, but I think the D may actually be turning the corner.
