Today on the Herd, Mack Brown spoke about college football and how tough it is on the kids. He mentioned going to a tough school all week, playing a night game this week, then having to return for hard work all day on Sunday - apparently all "voluntary." I did not state it well but ...

A former colleague from Austin used to talk about Longhorns practices. In the days before scholarships were really limited, Texas would bring a large number of guys onto the squad in time for the summer workouts. Hell would then descend upon the new members of the team. The coaches were counting on guys quitting. It usually worked.

There is a coordinated effort to undermine Rodriguez. I have tried to put away my tin foil hat, but the damn thing just won't stay silent. The Freep and News are being fed info (or clues where to get it or why they even should) by an inside source, and they are the voices for a minority that is finding itself more marginalized as time wears on. This stuff won't stop, unless Rodriguez and Co are living in a vacuum and have no business dealings, someone from each newspaper follow them around (yes, even into the shower) to see what goes on, and until whomever it is that wants RR gone IS gone. Til then, we can stop obsessing and keeping this stuff going on and on by continuosly stoking the fires.

Rodriguez and the football program are collateral damage in this guy's misguided vendetta. He's a strong minority hire advocate and wanted English to get the job and has had it out for Martin going back to the firings of Ellerbe and Amaker. His wife is a freep columnist and a local news correspondent for WWJ-TV. He is on the board of regents at EMU, but is also UM alum and booster with deep connections in Detroit politics and media. He also has a consulting business that deals with-what a coincidence- compliance issues in college athletics. Don't ask me how I know all of this. So English gets the EMU job after two pretty mediocre years as UM's defensive coordinator and one horrendous year as Louisville's DC--but before that this fellow was allegedly pushing for English to become UM's head coach? I'm glad it's not someone with some credibility. Talk about a conflict of interest--if what you say about him having a business that deals with compliance issues in college athletics, and he is a booster at UM and a regent at EMU--with a wife who is a journalist? This guy sounds like a pure-D joke.
