The girls are playing their last regular season game right now at Illinois and have a 53-49 lead with 3 minutes left. With a win we would clinch the #3 seed in the tournament (win a four way tie at 10-6 tiebreaker with Wisconsin, Ohio State and Iowa). If we drop the game, we'll fall to the #6 or #7 seed (9-7 tie with Purdue). A lot riding on this game.
Womens Bball Update
Purdue holds the tiebreaker over U-M, so Michigan falls to #7 with a loss. Loss would also be a big blow to their chances at an NCAA bid.
Game tied at 53 with under a minute left.
Tied at 55 with 15 seconds left.
Michigan ball with 1.5 seconds left. Tied at 55.
We scored with .2 left. Radio feed is a little chippy so I don't know who made the shot.
Layup and-1 on the inbound. Great win for the girls.
Rachel Sheffer had the game-winner plus a free throw. She had 23 for the game.
Michigan wins! Huge W!
Damn good weekend for Michigan sports.
Ouch! 0-6... They've gotta figure some things out. And it doesn't help that their confidence has to be completely shot by now.
They're averaging (in real games, not counting the exhibitions) 9.5 runs allowed to 4.33 scored. The good news is, it's still early and in the non-conference shedule and that early for a northern team is a huge disadvantage because of all the having to practice in-door stuff. The bad news is that the realistic chances of them getting an at-large berth for the NCAA tournament has dropped from not-great-but-doable-if-they-can-beat-the-average-teams-and-pick-up-a-big-upset-or-two to very-very-slim.
As the #3 seed, Michigan will play the winner of a first-round matchup between Wisconsin and Illinois. Game will start around 2:00 on Friday and be broadcast on the BTN.
1. Michigan State (13-3)
2. Penn State (11-5)
3. Michigan (10-6)
4. Iowa (10-6)
5. Ohio State (10-6)
6. Wisconsin (10-6)
7. Purdue (9-7)
8. Northwestern (6-10)
9. Minesota (4-12)
10. Indiana (3-13)
11. Illinois (2-14)
*I think I figured out the tiebreakers correctly.*
We will get the winner of the 6/11 game (Wisconsin/Illinois) and then the winner of 2/7or10 (Penn State/Purdue or Indiana) in the semis.
Great news of the W is a W variety. Hopefully they continue playing well in the BIGGITY Tourney and land nearby for their early games in Women's NCAAs. This gets them in, right? Go BLUE!
