But yeah, the kid posted something from a family member he had no reason to believe was false and never thought it would gain any more steam than a board post on a sports blog. Glad he was redeemed, even if he can be a little annoying to some people sometimes.

For those who did not know, Wolverine Devotee was never formally punished by myself or the other mods or anyone else, so no formal MGoReprimand other than a community negbang in the thread where Jon06 revealed that his own FOIA request had been turned down. At that point, his forced removal was requested by a few people, but we didn't have the heart to do it. Glad to see that front page post like everyone else, of course.

If my family member called me up and said, "hey, take a look at what Dave Brandon responded to my email! What an asshole!", would you demand to see documentation of authenticity?
If I was a teenager, I wouldn't. I'd probably start thinking to myself, "Gee, I sure bet this would add fuel to the Dave Brandon hating fire on MGoBlog. I bet there would be people interested in seeing what an unprofessional, condescending, and ridiculous prick he is, even while operating as a representative of the University". I would probably be too excited to share the news with my like minded friends than worried about any sort of legal ramifications it could entail.
Cripes, I'm a grown man and still would never have thought the backlash WD recieved was even possible. What a bunch of anonymous, internet assholes tough guys.

Regarding the second point: I would have done the same thing as WD did. Perhaps not post the actual email, but I would have written about it somewhere on this blog. I would imagine that if people asked me to post the email, I would find most likely do it and not think anything of it. I would thus be verifying my story. If people demanded I confirm its authenticity, I would have absolutely no idea of even where to begin and would think the person demanding it is an asshole. I would then disappear from the blog for a while. Basically, I would do exactly what WD did.
There is apparantly no way to verify the emails because it still hasn't been done. There is no way in hell I would have the resources to do. That would be a shame because it seems to be kind of a big story, or at least worth mentioning on ESPN.

Honestly a lot of you should apologize for making fun of the kid so bad, and not just for this email thing. Some of the stuff you guys say about him makes me think you forget he is some random 19 year old kid with a boner for Michigan. It's brutal.

I agree. I did think his fandom level crossed into, "Eeeeeeasy, Killer" territory, but it isn't anything I haven't seen plenty of times before, and I definitely didn't think he deserved to have so many people bash him on here, especially at his age. And it was going on long before "Emailgate"...which I guess is..."Email-Non-Gate" now, maybe?

How many threads have you started? How much incredibly mundane minutiae do you share here? It was a minor caveat to my defense of the guy, relax. Was I simply noting that he IS in fact a very intense fan, well beyond, in my opinion, someone who merely posts on this site? Yes. Do I think there's anything wrong with him being a very intense fan? No, as long as he maintains perspective and the rest of his life isn't suffering because of it, of which I have no idea one way or another, hence I wasn't commenting on that.

I'm sure he's an alright person, but that does nothing to invalidate him being a tool.
In fact, I'm actually trying to help him. He's 19 years old, and there is no reason he should be spending this much time on an internet message board. He should be out trying to lose his virginity and make some actual lifelong friends.

Many of us post at work or while we should be doing other things. That does not prevent us from getting laid when we get home from work/school/what have you. WD posted something about having a girlfriend and taking her to a game. I think it is fair to assume he has the whole virginity thing covered.

For the record, I told him I couldn't "hate on ya too much" and that he was guilty of no more than trying to be first before making sure he was right, and that that is pretty much what the professional media do all the time. But, I did acknowledge that I believed the official position/FOIA response and that he was wrong, so my apologies, WD. Good job, and...just...holy fuck!
