WoJo takes a jab at UM - calling Pasadena travel logs "dusty"

Submitted by NHWolverine on
I felt the need to post this quote from WoJo as it was really eating at me:
Now, the Irish and Spartans get to decide whose season is ruined Saturday, while the Wolverines are digging out their dusty Pasadena travel logs. All of a sudden, Michigan State and Notre Dame are teetering and Michigan is tittering and everyone except me is twittering, and I have no idea what to think.
http://www.detnews.com/article/20090917/OPINION03/909170367 Dusty? Sitting on a shelf since 1988 will make something dusty, not 2007.

He's implying that UM has Rose Bowl hopes... so? Dude's a UM fan, and whether or not 2.5 years is a long time... wouldn't you agree it sure as shit FEELS like a long time (App State, Oregon, coaching changes, 3-9, Toledo, OSU beat down, etc.)

Journalists are supposed to unbiased, that is not in the job description of a columnist. That being said, how is it that out of all the Detroit columnists (many of whom went to Michigan), Wojo seems to be the only one with affection for the school? Dusty = No Rose Bowl since Jan. 1 1988, most of the current little brothers weren't even born then.

if you let minor stuff like this get to you, you'll never enjoy the best life has to offer.

2-0 man, with Eastern coming to the Big House this Saturday. MSU and Saprty can't both win this weekend, and (some) people are questioning OSU's ability to handle Toledo. Sit back, relax, put your feet up and get acquainted with some of the players further down the depth chart.

"We do know Weis got full of himself (not easy to do)..." Fat jokes FTW I'm thinking the DetNews is privy to UM fan idioms (perhaps by reading this very blog?!) and is making a bid to snatch market share from the Freep. And I like it! Let me dump some shampoo on my head: "It's working! Oh yeah it's working!"

That's a jab at Michigan? If anything it read like multiple jabs at Michigan State and Notre Dame. Hell, I'm not even ready to suggest Michigan is Rose Bowl bound just yet. The Detroit News generally has a more favorable attitude towards Michigan than some other papers and Bob Wojnowski and Angelique Chengelis are fair. Plus, Wojo is pretty funny sometimes.

The entire article was praising us and mocking other teams. We are getting too fragile. Someone on Scout the other day claimed that Ron English had provided us "bulletin board material" by saying we were talented last year despite going 3-9. That's right, he denigrated our players by saying they were good. Now a writer says we can start considering the Rose Bowl and we feel slighted? Wow.

And uh, this one is accurate. Seriously, if something like this is "eating" at you, you need counseling. I know the radar is extra sensitive these days, but (and this is why Irony is dead in America and to be a rich comedian all you need to do is get up on stage and say "Dick! Fart! FUCK!") this is a cmpliment. He is saying UM is ready to make a run for the roses.

FTR, Wojo has written that same humorous Thursday prediction column for as long as I've been reading the News and old enough to understand, which is something going on twenty years. In it he jabs both Michigan and Michigan State every single week and often has barbs for Notre Dame and OSU too. Being surprised about this means you missed out on his schtick completely.

Referring to M not going to the Rose Bowl for 3 years as dusty shows his high expectations of Michigan. Everyone on this board would like to see a Rose Bowl every year. I was at the last one and thinking about it is still painful
