Wisconsin purportedly pulls offer of committed 2018 QB because he tweeted UGA offer

Link (on mobile so not sure if it'll work): http://www.scout.com/college/wisconsin/story/1777890-wisconsin-pulls-br… As we know, it's tough to get the whole story when a school cannot respond to a recruit's claims, but this is quite the odd story. Bryant stated that the offer had no impact on his commitment but "he wasn’t in consistent communication with head coach Paul Chryst or offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph. Bryant committed back in December." Sounds familiar. I have no problem with this "processing" of sorts, especially this far from signing day, but tweeting another offer is a really weak excuse to do it. Just a weird situation.

Considering how well they recruited in the last cycle, it's a little weird to see how badly they seem to be floundering this cycle. Last year, the recruiting experts were talking about how amazingly well UGA was recruiting in-state. This year, there were 3 4-star QB's in the state of Georgia for the 2018 class. They missed on all of them. They seem to be missing on other in-state players as well. At this point, Michigan has more Georgia commitments than Georgia does.

I could be wrong about this. Maybe this is all part of some strategy and maybe they really come on late and clean up in-state, but right now their recruiting is looking surprisingly weak.

Wisconsin already has a QB in this class that they really like. This is probably just a petty excuse to drop this kid. A shitty situation but at least they did it relatively early in the cycle. I also think Wisconsin is getting to the point where they have had enough sustained success to get better prospects than what they are accustomed to.

it would have done so by now. It's a bit of a mystery why it hasn't. Doubt it has anything to do with this situation.

I've never heard of anyone else having this policy  and the player seemed unaware of it too. It all sounds fishy. Let's see if any other of their commits does the same thing. It's a long ways from signing day and that's what kids do.

It's not a mystery at all. Wisconsin and to a lesser degree Iowa have historically recruited in-state players that will auto-commit as soon as they get an offer and then not travel to any camps. The rural midwest is already underscouted and lacks the exposure that the deep south gets. Another aspect of it is they often recruit unheralded prospects that fir their specific scheme. These kids won't demand immediate playing time and can be developed over their five years on campus, playing only as upperclassmen.

Yeah this has bullshit written all over it. Like the OP states, it's easy for the recruit to say whatever they want knowing its a violation for the school to respond.

Paul Chryst has spoken at length about how he wants the word "offer" to have a scholarship guaranteed with it. He also has openly said he wanted to take 2 QBs this class. Unless something happened off the field for him to pull it, I'm not buying it. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

No way they take a huge PR hit over a low ranked QB because of a retweet.

Wiscy cooled on this kid getting a better QB (even if they plan on taking 2).  I can't see a school like Wisconsin saying there's no room because you tweeted.  Kids tweet their offers all the time.  They are high school kids who believe the world revolves around them.

Wisconsin and other schools need to chill out.  These are immature kids looking for as much attention as they can get, as this kid proved.  This is Hoke's policy in turbo mode.

Reminds me of classic scene in Blazing Saddles where Headley shoots the poor dude for chewing gum in line after not having more when asnwering "Did you bring enough for EVERYbody?"

Lots of media coverage right? Oh wait Wisconsin doesn't get clicks like Harbaugh and Michigan.

before NSD? I doubt the tweet had any bearing on Chryst's decision, but the coaches are certainly entitled to end the recruitment. It must be the quietest time of the offseason if a 3rd rate QB recruit for UW generates any attention.

Yeah, this is definitely a situation where UW just didn't want him anymore and either he's trying to make them look stupid by claiming it was over this tweet or they legit gave a dumb excuse to drop him early. Either way, at least they dropped him early enough in the cycle for it to not matter much.
