Losing a lineman like that won't help them when they come into the big house. Sounds good to me. Good luck to the kid !

Yeah, just making it easier for our D-line to get into the backfield, which shouldn't have been much of a problem in the first place.  Seems like at this point we are squaring off with so many weak/young offensive lines that our sack numbers should be somewhat inflated by the competition (or lack thereof).

Christ. Might want to wait and see what those dizzying sack numbers are before worrying about whether they'll be inflated by weak competition.

Wisconsin's OL will not be weak or young this year. Long before Voltz determined he could no longer play he had already ceded his position to a younger player he admitted was more talented than he was. They'll be fine. Maybe not "laughing as they run the ball 27 times in a row" fine, but fine.

Dude. Get off of this site. Wisconsin is just a worse version of Illinois which is a worse version of Northwestern which is a worse version of Michigan. You'll lose that game by 10+, guaranteed. Also, looking back at your comment history, Wisconsin is not an athletic powerhouse. You're meh at football and pretty good recently at basketball. Below average/average at other sports. In no way comparable to places like Michigan, Cal, USC, and  Stanford in athletic/academic excellence.

without Voltz, there's no power in their line. The electricity seems to have drained from the Wisconsin fanbase. Still, I'm going to get amped up for that game. It has the potential to be one of our better games

EDIT: needless to say, without Voltz, I don't see Wisconsin's offensive line putting up much resistance against our d-line.

Tough break for the man. I'm guessing most players never want to call it a career and hang up the pads, but if he's doing it for his health, he's making the right choice. Can't blame a guy for wanting to still be able to walk by the time he's 50.

That being said, I'm not sorry that we won't have to face off against him in October. Wisconsin offensive lines have their reputations for a reason, so I will take any advantage I can get.

Never easy to give up playing a sport you love, but it sounds like the right decision for his health. All the best to Voltz as he transitions to the next phase of his life/career.

The short piece on ESPN is here - LINK

From the quote Chryst gave, he might at least hang around the program in some capacity:

"What's exciting for us is what Dan wants to do with his future plans have to do with athletics," Chryst told reporters Tuesday. "He can turn the page and go forward. We had a good discussion about that. Didn't want him hanging on to something, and yet he's interested in a strength training component and also the coaching component maybe. I feel like it's a way that he can transition."
