Not to dunk. Especially if they are authoritative.
No fire the head coach posts? Lol This blog is slightly embarrassing after an emotional loss. We just lost to a good team on the road that went to OT on a last second shot from half cour. Being an armchair coach sure is fun!
Wisconsin is not good
Beating Indiana at Assembly Hall says otherwise. Being tied for first in the Big Ten, basketball's toughest conference, says otherwise.
Is not in first place.
There actually are a few "Beilein's a better recruiter than a game coach" post earlier in this thread, which are some awesome unintentional comedy.
under our basket when Wisky needs a three in regulation with 2 seconds going full court? It's not like Michigan doesn't get real game chances to practice last second plays offensively AND defensively - yet we get burned on both ends again...
Obviously. No reason biefeldt would be playing with less than 10 minutes in a close game if we have a healthy Morgan. We needed our soundest defender out there to close out the game
Not positive, becuase I don't think they track the stat, but I thought he played pretty well today and sparked a couple runs for us in both the first and second half.
I know the missed layup wasn't good, but Mitch hitting those outside jumpers could prove to be really big in the future for this team. He seems to keep having "his best game of the year"
An angle I haven't read too much about is THJ taking that 3 at the end of regulation, I understand we were rewarded today, but that's two games in a row in a tie game with the ball and we took 3 pointers, I feel like burke should be able to get into the lane and take an easier shot. And also it seems like after the under 4 media timeout we go into a shell and stop running the offense. I know Stauskis passed up an open 3 early in OT and I'm sure we ran the clock down for a similar contested shot at the end of the possession.
Just have to somehow get over that one quick and regroup for msu!
A few things from the box score that are of note, I think...
From the standpoint of team effective field goal percentage, this was statistically our worst performance among the three losses. We had an effective FG% of 43.0% this time around, compared to allowing an effective percentage of 52.6% to Wisconsin. In the Indiana game, we managed an effective FG% of 47.9% while allowing Indiana to shoot 59.0% on the same metric.
It seemed like Wisconsin was able to dictate the pace of the game a little bit, never really allowing Michigan to settle comfortably into a rhythm. Indeed, we attempted 71 field goals, 18 three-point shots and 2 free throws and managed 62 points which, working through estimating possessions, comes to an offensive efficiency of around 0.899. That's far below our average.
We didn't get outrebounded by much, at least by the numbers, but we left quite a few shots out there on bad looks, it seems, and when the two biggest contributors offensively are still 8-for-21 and 8-for-17 on FGs, it seems apparent. We'll definitely have to play a tighter game and make some of those baskets at the Breslin Center.
I'll tell Amaker you want him back.
it, but I think that the last three games or so might indicate that Morgan is a more important component of this team than some people give him credit for.
I agree . I think Morgan is so key on defense. While he may not make a lot of big highlight reel plays, hes usually in the right spot to hedge on a pick or otherwise disrupt the flow of the offense. It's also good just to have some experience on the floor. And he's a good finisher.
I'm surprised no on has really mentioned it. I think with him on the floor, maybe Michiggan wins the Indiana game. Ohio State doesnt go to OT because we don't let up so many weak offensive boards down the stretch. And today...well...lets not talk about today.
His absence has allowed McGary to get a ton of minutes though and he's developing very nicely. I'm psyched to see Morgan and McGary on the floor at the same time when he comes back. They'll wreak havoc.
I'm really surprised the announcers didnt mention him. I honestly don't recall his name being mentioned once. I was getting tired of hearing Jared Sullinger being mentioned more than a key player who was actually in the building. Dakich is a buffoon, what should I really expect?
Only one thing can salvage this day.....Traverse City Microbrew Festival
Still favored to win it all btw. http://www.vegasinsider.com/college-basketball/odds/futures/
Those odds were as of February 5th at noon! Lets see if that changes now, not sure how often the odds are ran...
Not a chance. Too young and too roller coaster.
Well that just fucked up an otherwise nice Saturday afternoon. I hate those Badgers. Please tell me Brusewitz or however the hell you spell his name graduates this year. Fuck the announcers too.
....we got what we deserved.....up 6 with 6:36 to go,we don't finish teams off
hero ball again, McGary needs to finish lay-ups, not enough creation on offense, and foul at the end... I really don't feel like saying more. God answered some desperate cheesehead prayers today, and I'm not happy about it.
We run into the cheeseheads in the BIG Tourney.
McGary played great. I thought he was fouled on his fastbreak but hey, Big 10 refs and all that.
these badger fans are insufferable and drive me insane.
I think the biggest factor of not having Morgan is the way he can run the pick and roll. He rolls very well and I dont think McGary has picked that up yet. Thats why i think our offense has stalled lately and may even be affecting GRIII - Morgan rolls, defense rotates and leaves GRIII open for a dunk or open 3.
I thought having 2 bigs out there today was good defensively but Bielfeldt didn't offer much offensively, missing a few put backs too. Morgan and McGary should be interesting because McGary is really getting better offensively.
My staff on Monday will be annoying, maybe I'll need them to work on Satuday...and go ahead and need them to work on Sunday, too.
So they lost a tough game on the road in the toughest conference in the nation. In the overall scheme of things it is truly insignificant. Don't get me wrong, I hate seeing them lose just as much as the next Michigan fan, but really? Those of you who are flaming need to answer one question. Have any of you ever seen a vagina? If you do, you'll throw that basketball thing right out the window.
A half-court shot just like the Evan Turner, maybe even further than that? Between that and the refs, we were robbed! This would have put us in prime position to win the Big Ten.
That sir, is why you sound so reasonable!
Does Wisconsin actually put Gatorade in the bottles and cooler or is it just whole milk?
I was really down after this loss. But after taking a long nap i came up with a few things.
Michigan has 7 games left. Going 6-1 or even 5-2 would put us at 13 or 14 wins in the BIG ten. This was expected from the beginning of the season and it should give us at least a share of the Big Ten championship. We still have the Big Ten Tournament. Finally all these games at MSU, at Wisc, at Ohio, at Indiana are preparing us for the NCAA tournament. The BIG ten is by far the best conference in america and i dont think Michigan will face a tougher test in the tournament than those four hostile enviroments. We gotta move on cause we have a game in EL on Tuesday.
What's even more frustrating to me is...with this shot today, you add in Gasser (or however the f you spell his name) and Evan Turner's shot a few years back, that's 3 loses on a buzzer beater bs 3 point shot. When was the last time WE made one of those? Had a chance againist OSU a few weeks ago and no go, had a chance at Arkansas last year...again, no go. Had another shot against Duke in the tourney two seasons ago, that didn't drop. I could go on and on with close loses by us but when was the last time we won on a buzzer beater in a big game!? Blah...I'm headed to the casino tonight to drink and drop some money in my sorrows. Hail!
Granted it was in the NIT, but the game was in Crisler and was pretty awesome.
Indiana has lost on a neutral floor to Butler, at HOME vs Wisconsin, and at Illinois
Florida lost on a neutral floor to Kansas State, at Arizona, and at Arkansas
Duke lost at NC State and at Miami
Kansas lost to Michigan St on a neutral floor, at home to Okie State, and at TCU
Gonzaga lost at home to Illinois and at Butler
Arizona lost at Oregon and at home to UCLA
Miami lost at Florida Gulf Coast, and on neutral floors to Arizona and Indiana State
Syracuse lost on a neutral floor to Temple and at Villanova and Louisville
Ohio St lost at Duke, at home versus Kansas, and at Illinois, Michigan, and Michigan State
We've lost at Indiana, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.
There is no *great* team this year and honestly, we have the three most acceptable losses by a grand total of 14 points. One of those losses was due to a miracle heave at the buzzer.
This is the best Michigan basketball team in almost 20 years.
I was just as pissed after the game. Now, I've calmed down.
We should have won. Who knows may be we'll win at State but I had this penciled in as a loss. We may not win the B1G this year?
Hopefully, the younger players can continue to improve for tournament time. The way the team plays at times, I just worry that some mediocre team may knock us out in the early rounds of the NCAA tournament.
I won't be upset when Burke leaves . He's good Nd all but his shot selection makes it seem as if he was a "something to prove " attitude . If he could get more than just Timmy involved in the half court game we'd be undefeated.
Or he's our best player. Comments like these make zero sense to me.
We're maybe a top 20 team without him.
Having one of the best players in the country sucks.
Man you guys are depressing! It's tough to win on the road in college basketball, especially the big ten. This team will be fine. Hopefully steal one tuesday and protect our homecourt and we still have a legit shot at the big 10 championship.
Deep breaths folks.
And a long nap I am up and am still pissed. What a way to ruin a Saturday. A half court heave when we had the game won. Beating Sparty Tues could have all but wrapped up a Big Ten title for us.
We are not going to win the big ten shooting contested perimeter jumpers all day . Coach B needs to adjust his offense . I know spacing is important but our offense is crippled when all we do is pass to the wing players at 28 ft out b4 passing back to Burke or hardaway to work for a midrange or deep jumper. Tighten up a little bit and catch it on the 3 line to utilize shot fakes/triple threat with Robinson and staukas , they both can be deadly in those situations .. Catching the ball 28 feet away ... Not so much . Pass back to Burke jump shot
settle for contested jumpers in this game. They attacked the rim quite frequently, unfortunately they missed some makeable bunnies and didn't get the benefit of the whistle when they were hacked.
Doesn't need to be adjusted. It's proven to work pretty well.
Today was tough but will bounce back. No one will give us a shot at Sparty I like that and I can't see how we won't be up for a rival. To put into perspective, after 11 games last year we were 7-4 and this year 8-3 still lot of games left. It will come down to last game of the year and glad its at home for us.
I'd take Robbie Reid over Burke too!!
Nexts years team with Walton Irvin staukas mark d GR3? Nd Mitch will be better .
Not at all worried about what happened in this game. Good teams still lose trap games like these. I actually think this loss helps us against MSU because we're still going to be a little pissed about what happened today.
I'm getting tired of watching Burke iso's or pick and rolls at the end of the half/games. Don't they have some set plays they can call to see if they can't get Hardaway or Stauskas an open shot? Or maybe have someone else start a set play and have Burke come off a screen to get the ball with the option to shoot or penetrate depending on how the opponent defends the screen?
...but that was a trap game btwn Ohio and Lil Bro...so beat State and the world is alright and we are right back up there with a much more favorable schedule down the stretch.
And said watch I guarantee they throw up the Hail Mary and it goes in! I swear we have gotten fucked on the close my eyes end of the game 3 ball the last few years. Badgers did it to us at home when it went off the glass. Osu did it to us in the Big Tourney a few years back ( that one made me really sick) and now again today! I hate losing but understand its part of the game but fuck to lose a game like this was just unreal! I did yard work for 4 straight hours and still was a little pissed
