Winter Classic Open Thread
Winter Classic starting up soon in the Big House on NBC
On first glance, certainly looks like they're going to crush our record. There were some gaps in the upper bowl for the Big Chill, none that I see so far today
Puck drop upcoming

The swooping in and out, zooming in and out, and changing camera angle was just too much. Plus the fact that the normal score bar was gone as well

Rats, their goalie was able to get to that puck first.

Attendance at the Winter Classic: 105,491. Would be a new world record if verified by the Guinness World Records.

I thought the game was a sure sellout. Looks like it's still not certain this game will be the world recordJanuary 1st, 2014 at 4:21 PM ^
It only took 5 and 3/4 periods for a Spartan to score a goal in Michigan Stadium.

Wtf. Is this U-7 soccer? Why is there a halftime to a 5 minute overtime period
January 1st, 2014 at 4:39 PM ^
To give teams equal time at both ends in an outdoor game.

Damn, horn sounded for end change. What rotten timing.

Shootout. Put Homer in!
January 1st, 2014 at 4:43 PM ^
Shootout.
Fitting.
Wonder if we'll get a concert before the shootout by Little Jimmy and the Dickbeaters, or whoever it is they found to play earlier.

This has probably been said, but I love the uniforms in this game. And it's pretty awesome seeing red and blue out there together. I wish more games in every sport featured both teams' colored jerseys.

Alfredsson booed.
Leaf fans can't help themselves.

Datsyuk scores!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Berenson was coaching when Dufek was playing.
January 1st, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
Dammit, they tie it.
January 1st, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
Good grief, Jimmy. You can't give THAT one up.
January 1st, 2014 at 4:49 PM ^
Shit, they win.
January 1st, 2014 at 4:49 PM ^
Dammit

Typical Wings result this season, indoors or outdoors.

Sweet.
GG MGoBlogosphere.
I am happy. Both teams deserved a point. Glad to see the Leafs pick up the second.

Well today's game is the first time he looked great. The only 2 goals allowed were flukes. Shootouts are stupid so can't put that on him as much as you could really.

Another Shootout loss. Can't wait till they change this stupid format for Overtime.

Patch made the olympic team. Didnt know if he would
January 1st, 2014 at 4:59 PM ^
Max Pacioretty on the Olympic team.
January 1st, 2014 at 4:59 PM ^
Max Pacioretty is on the team. Jack Johnson is not.
January 1st, 2014 at 5:05 PM ^
I was really surprised JMFJ didn't make it. Anyone know why?
January 1st, 2014 at 5:33 PM ^
They wanted a defensemen to play with Suter or McDonagh, who are both left handed. Jack is a lefty, and they didn't feel comfortable with him playing his offhand.
I am a little confused that they left off Erik Johnson and Keith Yandle in favor of Justin Faulk and Cam Fowler. Not good choices.

I think that was the best sports event I have ever attended. Absolute beauty.
Favorite team playing in my favorite stadium on the campus of the greatest university in the world. Plus cold Molsons being served, Mayer Hawthorne, crazy Canadians everywhere, and a blizzard.
I really wanted to see an octopus on the ice, but that would require one hell of a toss.
